Lesson 10<br />

Kindergarten - Grade 3<br />

Extension Activities<br />

Administer the Assessment for this unit.<br />

• Lay a length of mural paper on the floor and<br />

group the students around it. Provide the students<br />

with old magazines, scissors, and glue.<br />

The students should find pictures of transportation<br />

forms in the magazines. They should<br />

glue the pictures that they find onto the mural<br />

paper. When the mural paper is filled, display<br />

the transportation mural.<br />

• Scatter pictures of the different transportation<br />

forms on the floor and group the students<br />

around them. Review the names of the different<br />

transportation forms. Make a paper airplane<br />

and give it to one of the students. Say<br />

the name of one of the transportation forms;<br />

the student should toss the paper airplane, trying<br />

to land it on the picture of the transportation<br />

form that you named. Repeat.<br />

• Before the lesson begins, cut out a wheel<br />

(from pictures in old magazines) for each student.<br />

Provide each student with art paper, glue,<br />

and illustrating supplies. Each student should<br />

glue his/her wheel on the art paper; the students<br />

should then illustrate a transportation<br />

form around the wheel. Display the completed<br />

pictures.<br />

• Introduce the dialog from this unit to the students.<br />

Practice the dialog with the students in<br />

choral, group and individual forms.<br />

• Use the Dialog Activity Page, from the<br />

Student Support Materials to review the dialog<br />

with the students.<br />

Prepare a sheet of small vocabulary illustrations,<br />

based on the key vocabulary words for this unit. Make<br />

a copy of the page for each student. The students<br />

should take the illustrations page home for extra<br />

Tlingit/Haida/Tsimshian practice.<br />

Grade 4 - Grade 6<br />
