What does it mean to be a registered parishioner
How do I register All Catholics living within the
Parish and regularly participating in the liturgy are
invited to register in the Parish. Church attendance
alone does NOT make you and your family registered
members. Registration is required for Baptism, First
Communion, First Reconciliation, Confirmation,
Marriage and Catholic Education programs. Adult
children, 18 + , need to be registered separately from
their parents in order to get married, have their own
children baptized, or be Godparents or Sponsors. You
can register by coming to the Parish Office and filling
out a short registration form.
How do I request a Communion Call or Anointing

How do I get married in the Church The Diocese
of Phoenix requires a NINE MONTH marriage
preparation process. You must be registered in the
Parish (separately from your parents) at least THREE
months prior to beginning the nine month process and
be active and practicing Catholics with NO CANONICAL
IMPEDIMENTS to marriage. John Deg, Director of
Married Life Ministries, will meet with you to explain
the process, including when you will meet with the
Pastor to set a date. Do NOT set the date prior to this
meeting as it cannot be guaranteed until then.

THE YEAR OF FAITH
OCTOBER 11, 2012 - NOVEMBER 24, 2013
Part I
Pope Benedict XVI announced the Year of Faith to confront secularism and other
challenges facing the Catholic Church and to encourage Catholics to rediscover the faith
and the JOY of the encounter with Jesus Christ.
October 11 th is the 50 th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council and the 20 th anniversary
of the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
The Year of Faith focuses on the New Evangelization. This effort to rekindle the
Faith of all Catholics was a central theme of Blessed Pope John Paul II which has been
continued and expanded under Pope Benedict XVI.
With all the pressing issues facing the Catholic Church and our society today, it is important
to take the time to revisit our most fundamental beliefs as a community of Jesus’
disciples.
“The central image of the Year of Faith is the ‘door of faith’ based on the Acts of the
Apostles,” (Bishop David Ricken of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Chairman of the United
States Bishop Committee of Evangelization and Catechesis).
The “door of faith” is opened at our Baptism and in this Year of Faith we are called to
open it again, walk through it, and rediscover and renew our relationship with Jesus
Christ and His Church.
We are called to rediscover and renew what happened to us at our Baptism. We were
called out of darkness into the light of Jesus Christ. We were cleansed from the stain of
sin, and we submitted to sharing in the death of Jesus Christ in order to rise again with
Him to new life.
These powerful images — darkness, sin, and death—are overcome by the encounter
with Jesus Christ who is Light, Holiness, and Everlasting Life. It is important to keep in
mind that we have been transformed by grace and we are called to give witness to Jesus
Christ’s victory over darkness, sin, and death.
Pope Benedict XVI has made this Year of Faith a priority. Our Faith can, and should,
be a sourve of liberation and an experience of JOY. We must rediscover and renew the
freedom that can only come from conversion in Jesus Christ.
May Almighty God bless you, benedicere, protect you, custodire, but most of all, love you, diligere.

Essentials of the Catholic Faith
A new course from the Kino Institute
In light of the coming Year of Faith proclaimed by
Pope Benedict XVI, the Kino Institute is excited to
offer a brand new course. “Essentials of the Faith” is
designed for Catholics to know their faith on an adult
level. Given by dynamic instructors from around the
Diocese, this course will help Catholics to understand
the “big picture” of Church teaching by looking at
Scripture, the teachings of the Church, and applying
those teachings to our lives. Whether it has been a
while since you received Catholic Formation, or if
you need a brush-up, “Essentials of the Faith” will
help you know and love Christ and His Church more
deeply. This course begins Saturday, Sept. 8, occurring
one Saturday a month through May. For more information,

Tuesday, August 28th:
Augustine, † 430; born in Tagaste, north Africa;
after a dissolute life, he received baptism at age 33
from Ambrose; elected bishop of Hippo; combated
Manichees, the Donatists, and Pelagius; most noted
for his Confessions and City of God; over 500 homilies
are extant; considered a founder of monastic life in the
West, his Rule (whose mantra for community life is
anima una et cor unum ad Deum) is observed by some
100 religious communities today; one of the four
great doctors of the Latin Church; called the “Doctor
of grace.”

The Passion of John the Baptist—Today’s memorial
originates in the celebration of the dedication perhaps
on this day of the church of St. John at Sebaste
