Emperor’s New Clothes.

Singers (grades 6-8)
performed at Evensongs,
Founders’ Day, Middle School
Carol Service, Celebration of
Learning, Trills and Thrills, Prize
Day, and at Kiwanis, where
they were awarded a gold
standing.

Music Festival concert
The number of students taking music in Upper School was a record in
2009–2010. The Grade 9 and Grade 10 band students performed at Arts
Around Us. While the focus of the class was instrumental music, these
students composed a solo song accompaniment in the MIDI lab, which
the group performed with the school’s diskclavier playing the
accompaniment. A focus for these students included developing listening
skills and evaluating musical performances. A number of grade 11
students participated in choir as part of a credit course; these students
participated in the Conference of Independent Schools’ Music Festival
(CISMF) weekend in Toronto.
The Kilmarnock Singers and Madrigal Singers performed at various
events, including Evensong Services, Founders’ Day, Remembrance Day,
US Carol Service, the Conference of Independent Schools’ Music
Festival (CISMF), Arts Arounds Us, Prize Day, and at the local Kiwanis
Festival, where they were awarded a gold standing.
The trip to the Kiwanis Festival with the Junior Choir, Chalmers Singers,
and Kilmarnock Singers was a special one. The combined choirs were
awarded gold standings, and the school won the trophy for the Best
School Choral Program this year.
