Hearts for Healing
Benefit Art Event is a Great Success!
3 ½ year old patient Ariana shows us one of her favorite
paintings right after she bravely told the crowd how our
speech and occupational therapy programs are helping her
speak more clearly. (Her favorite part of therapy is the snacks
and getting homework like her big sister!)
Check out our Hearts for Healing Highlights on Page 4!

her beautiful daughter talk with program staff.
Black Infant Health Program
Did you know that African American babies are more than twice
as likely to die during their first year of life, and more than 1 ½
times as likely to be born premature in San Diego County Family
Health Centers of San DIego’s County Funded Black Infant Health
Program (BIHP) works to overcome these frightening statistics
through education, case management, and enhanced social support
services. The program works! There have been no infant deaths
in the 5 years we’ve managed the program, and this year alone
91% of our BIHP babies were born at a normal birth weight! For
more information, please contact us at 619-266-7466.
Family Health Center of San Diego’s team dresses in
red to show their support for Go Red for Women Day.
Go Red for Women
On February 3, Family Health Centers of San Diego joined
millions across the nation in showing their support of Go Red for
Women Day. This important campaign helps build awareness
about women’s cardiovascular health. At Family Health Centers,
we offer comprehensive services to help our patients achieve
and maintain good heart health. Whether you need to see the
doctor, find affordable medications, meet with a nutritionist, or
get moving at our Zumba class, we are here to help! For more
information, please call us at 619-515-2300.
Kudos to Pfizer
Pfizer employees banded together last December and held a
very special holiday drive for baby items for our Baby Boutique!
It was a success and we thank Pfizer for their ongoing support.
The Baby Boutique supports mothers and their babies in our
prenatal program. Patients earn “baby bucks” when they attend
medical visits and classes. They then use the “baby bucks” to
shop for generously donated new and gently used items. Thanks
to incredible community support, over 1,300 new moms went
shopping in the Baby Boutique in 2011. For more information on
organizing a drive or making a donation, please contact Jamie
Willeford at 619-515-2562 or jamiew@fhcsd.org.
a groundbreaking new partnership that offers permanent supportive
opens in December 2012.
We are in the final phase of construction at our new and expanded
City Heights Family Health Center, and we are excited!
On March 26, our primary care clinic will move from our existing
small clinic to the beautiful new building. We’ll also open our
brand new dental clinic.
Our construction team is still working though! We still need to
complete the new women’s clinic & equip all the additional exam
rooms in time for our formal grand opening in the fall.
We need your help! To date, we’ve raised $11.9 million of the
total $13.4 million project cost. We need your help closing the
remaining $1.5 million funding gap! Every gift counts, and
whether you are able to donate $100 or $1,000, you will be
investing in the health and well-being of thousands of City Heights
We wish to thank our family of supporters in
2011 for their generous gifts to Family Health
Centers of San Diego. Individuals, businesses,
corporations, and community groups supported
us in many ways.
• Through donation drives and volunteer
efforts for our Baby Boutique.
• Speakers who generously gave their time
and inspired us with their personal stories
and talents at our Spirit of the Barrio
luncheon events.
• Our 450-500+ guests at each of the five
Spirit of the Barrio luncheon events.
• Our Spirit of the Barrio corporate sponsors
(listed on page #7).
• Board members who volunteered their time
and expertise, and worked tirelessly behind
the scenes to promote philanthropic giving
to FHCSD.
• Foundations and corporations who granted
our numerous proposal requests for critical
health care programs and enabled FHCSD
to build our capacity to serve.
• Individuals who made cash contributions in
response to our appeals for support.
• Our student artists and their teachers
who gave their talents for the Hearts for
Healing event.
• And many others who volunteered their
time, gave in-kind donations of items for
our auctions, raffles, employee recognition
programs, equipment and supplies.
A very BIG thank you!
We appreciate all that you do to help us advance
our mission of providing quality healthcare
to individuals who are medically underserved
and uninsured.
