COAX Testing

The WireScope 350 and the DualRemote 350 support both Coaxial and
Twinaxial standards. This section will instruct you how to test to these
standards.
Coaxial cable (also called Coax) consists of an insulated central
conducting wire wrapped in another cylindrical conducting wire. Both of
these wires are encased in an insulating layer and an outer protective
layer. Coax is typically used in carrying high-speed data and in CATV.
Testing of coaxial cable checks only for length and cable integrity.
Because of this, there is no need to calibrate before the Autotest. Only a
subset of the tester settings applies to Coax testing. These settings are
shown on the screens below.
1 Insert the Coax probe in the WireScope 350’s SmartProbe port and
connect it to the coaxial cable to be tested. The WireScope 350 will
automatically detect it and change several settings. There is no need
to use the DualRemote 350 in certifying Coax cables. Press the
Autotest button on the Main Menu to bring up the Autotest Setup
screen. Press the Edit Settings button to change any settings.

2 When the Coax probe is inserted a default Coax cable is
automatically selected. You can change to a different Coax cable in
the Autotest Settings screen.
3 The WireScope 350 is capable of certifying 10Base-2 and 10Base-5
network operation over Coax. By selecting Other in the Network
Limits of the Autotest Settings screen, or in the Summary screen of
