Learning the NVP of a Cable<br />

The <strong>WireScope</strong> can <strong>de</strong>termine the NVP (Nominal Velocity of<br />

Propagation) of a cable, for use in certification testing. NVP is expressed<br />

as a percentage of the speed of light. you must use a sample of the cable<br />

at least 50 feet (15 meters) long. Longer cable samples produce more<br />

accurate results.<br />

To learn the NVP:<br />

1 Measure the length of a sample of the cable.<br />

2 Connect the cable sample to the <strong>WireScope</strong>. Do not connect the<br />

DualRemote.<br />

3 On the Expert mo<strong>de</strong> Tools menu (see page 6-18), press Learn NVP.<br />

The Learn NVP screen displays.<br />

4 Press the Cable Length field. The numeric keyboard opens.<br />

5 Press the backspace arrow to erase any value in the number field,<br />

then enter the length of the cable sample, in or meters. Press OK. The<br />
