<br />

navigability<br />

A specification of the allowed direction of communication along an association.<br />

node<br />

A physical object that represents a processing unit, typically computing hardware or a<br />

person, capable of owning and performing a system function. For more information see<br />

Session 26. See also deployment view.<br />

<br />

object<br />

A uniquely identifiable entity composed of information, behaviors, and relationships with<br />

other entities. For more information see Session 1.<br />

object activation<br />

An object in control of a thread or process that can initiate control activity. In a Sequence<br />

diagram, this is identified by adding an activation bar to the object lifeline. In an Object<br />

diagram, this is signified by making the object icon bold. For more information see Session<br />

object constraint language<br />

A formal language used to express rules that need to be enforced on elements in a <strong>UML</strong><br />

diagram (for example, to define which objects may participate in an association).<br />

object lifeline<br />

Used in a Sequence diagram, the timeline is represented as a vertical dashed line drawn<br />

from the owning object downward to the end of the scenario. For more information see<br />

Session 16.<br />

object management group<br />

The standards group currently overseeing the modeling standards related to object-oriented<br />

software development. For more information see Session 1.<br />

object termination<br />

The end of an object’s lifecycle, usually denoting object destruction. Identified by an X at<br />

the bottom of a sequence diagram timeline for the specified object. For more information<br />

see Session 16.<br />

Object-Oriented Analysis and Design Task Force<br />

The group assigned by the OMG to generate and oversee the RFP for a metamodel for object<br />

design. For more information see Session 1.<br />

operation<br />

The declaration of a unit of behavior within a class. See also method and interface. For more<br />

information see Session 9.
