George Archibald ’67 has had an entire day named for him in San<br />
Diego County, Califormia. George has been an active volunteer in all<br />
20 Annual Avacado Festivals in Fallbrook, California and has served as<br />
its chairman for the last 10 years. Recognized by County Chairman Bill<br />
Horn and all members of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors<br />
for his leadership, outstanding service and commitment to area<br />
residents, April 23 was delcared George Archibald Day throughout the<br />
county. Congratulations George!<br />
Victoria (Patterson) Dieska ’71 received the "Those Who Make A<br />
Difference" award from New Lenox <strong>School</strong> District 122. She also gets<br />
together with fellow alumni Jeanette (Sopkiewicz) Marchese ’71,<br />
Margie (McDonough) Gertsch ’71 and Noreen (Burns) Kimelman<br />
’71 on a regular basis.<br />
<strong>Marian</strong> <strong>Catholic</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> was misinformed…information<br />
published in the Spring 2006 <strong>Marian</strong> Matters that Nancy Mauro ’71<br />
was deceased was incorrect. We are very pleased to say that Nancy is<br />
alive and well and apologize to Nancy for the error!<br />
<strong>Marian</strong> mourns the loss of Sister Marie Vianney Trutter, O.P. On<br />
April 27, 2006 she was called Home. Sister Marie Vianney was a<br />
religion teacher at <strong>Marian</strong> during the 70's. She will be remembered for<br />
her goodness, service and love in the <strong>Marian</strong> Community.<br />
Kimberly (Nair) Gibbons ’85 and her husband Mike welcomed their<br />
second child, Mollie Elizabeth on December 10, 2005. Big sister Abby<br />
3 enjoys her new little sister.<br />
Katie (McGowan) Cantu ’86 and husband Homaro celebrated the<br />
birth of their daughter, Ella Isabel, in July 2005.<br />
Renee Kennedy-Edwards ’86 was the recipient of the "Top 40 under<br />
40" award by Gulfshore Business magazine which recognizes Southwest<br />
Florida's leading business professionals. Ms. Kennedy-Edwards is<br />
President of Coaching 4 Success, Inc., a business consulting service in<br />
the Naples-Fort Myers, Florida area.<br />
Chuck O'Brien ’86 was promoted to the position of General Counsel<br />
overseeing all North American legal affairs for the Statoil ASA group of<br />
companies. Chuck resides in Shelton, Connecticut with his wife<br />
Michelle (Hoffman) ’86 and their two sons, Charlie 4 and Colin 2.<br />
Joey (Halloran) Morris ’87 has the following message for her classmates:<br />
“It is with the greatest of sadness that I write to inform you of<br />
the passing of Leslie (Pride) Opilka ’87, wife of Robert Opilka ’87. She<br />
passed away on March 15th, after a 4 year battle with brain cancer. She<br />
leaves behind not only her husband, but 2 children, Jack 8, and Reily<br />
Kathleen 7, as well as her parents, sister, Lorelle "Scottie" Pride-Day<br />
’84 and numerous family and friends.”<br />
“I always considered Leslie to be one of the greatest gifts God ever chose to<br />
bestow upon me. I first met her as a sophomore at <strong>Marian</strong>, and since then<br />
she was my best friend for 21 years. It is hard to deal with the fact that she<br />
is physically not here with us anymore, though I realize that she wakes up<br />
with me every morning, for she is in everyone's heart who loved her.”<br />
