We cannot know what will happen to us
during the strange course of our lives.
We can however decide what can happen
inside of us, how we face things and
what decisions to take, and at the end
of the day that is what really matters.
REL-K®
Freedom without compromise
REL-K® is the innovative “Made in Italy” Electronic Knee developed
by Rizzoli Ortopedia to meet the need for mobility of
transfemoral amputees who wish to live their life to the full without
compromise.
The electronic knee is equipped with innovative sensors that
make it possible to measure, at a rate of 1,000 times a second,
the stress exerted while walking. It implements an optimal
braking control logic to permit an extraordinary adaptability
to stress and to the unpredictable nature of the ground,
allowing the amputee to walk in a completely fluid, safe and
natural manner.
RIZZOLI: THE PROSTHESES
Rizzoli Ortopedia designs and produces the devices
using the best materials available and following
specific protocols.
The Rizzoli protocol starts with taking the patient’s
measurements, developing the positive and,
therefore, the device using a state-of-the-art CAD-CAM
system, and ends with the delivery of the finished
product.
The modular components in the prosthesis for a
lower limb such as the knee, heel, foot or other, are
selected from among the products of the world’s top
manufacturers.
With over a century of excellence and craftsmanship
at its shoulders, Rizzoli can offer its customers the
solutions that best meet their needs.
It is the first silicone liner to guarantee complete freedom of
movement, thanks to the exclusive nature of the “TibiaGuard”,
a soft pad that acts as a shock absorber for the tibial crest. It
SOCKETS
Under-patellar
support
The top edge of the socket covers at the front the lower half
of the femoral condyles, while the top edge of the back wall
is in line with the knee joint. The stump rests on this type of
socket mainly:
• on the under-patellar area with depression of the socket
at this point
• on the stabilizing thrust at the centre of the rear wall
• on the entire surface of the stump, especially on the
soft parts, freeing the bone protrusions and tendons of
pressure.
This socket is for patients with a low level of activity.
Grip on the
condyles
The front wall of the socket is level with the line of the knee
joint and is well supported by the patellar tendon.
The stump is held by two condyloid joints moulded on the
femoral condyles that also ensure lateral stability. There is
under-patellar support and a stabilizing counter-thrust in the
popliteus.
This socket is for patients who have short stumps or a high
CUFFIE
SOCKETS
Four-sided
socket
It is so called on account of its shape in the proximal area
with four irregular sides with indentations and protrusions.
The indentations apply pressure on certain areas of the soft
tissue to help support the weight, while the protrusions
avoid excessive pressure on contracting muscle, tendons
and prominent osseous points. It is for people who need
good static stability, for flaccid stumps or for people with a
low level of activity.
FUNCTIONAL NEEDS
BASSE LOW
Ischium
containment
The oval socket, unlike the four-sided one, is relatively wide
between the front and back and relatively narrow between
the sides. The distribution of pressure during the static and
dynamic phase of walking is spread evenly on the stump.
The distal end receives a load no greater than the other
parts of the stump. This makes the socket particularly
suited to patients with short stumps or with a high level of
activity.
The 3R60 EBS knee allows one to walk in a safe,
comfortable and natural manner and to have a
physiological walking cycle. A decisive factor is controlled
flexion of the knee up to 15° upon contact of the heel with
the ground. It is also possible to register flexion of the
knee in an individual manner during the static phase for
all kinds of walking. This also offers considerable relief
to the stump, haunches and column of the user of the
