J-CAT Theatre Program<br />

J-CAT is the educational theatre arm of the MAR-<strong>JCC</strong>, a year-round program for youth, teens, and adults.<br />

where students of all ages are initiated to the magical world of theatre through a full season of productions, Summer<br />

Stock Theatre <strong>Camp</strong>, and a wide range of classes and workshops in acting, improvisation, and technical theatre.<br />

2011-2012 Theatre Season<br />

J-CAT presents six productions during its theatre season in addition to providing a venue for performances by professional<br />

theatre companies. Drawing upon community theatre roots, our actors and techies make up a volunteer ensemble that<br />

showcases their love and passion for theatre. ALL AUDITIONS are by appointment. The shows will be listed on the J-CAT<br />

website (www.jcctheatre.com) with a description and requirements of the characters. For more information and to<br />

schedule an audition, contact Lillian Andron at 305-308-8055. All shows are directed by <strong>Michael</strong> Andron, unless otherwise<br />

indicated. J-CAT’s 2011/12 season is made possible thanks to the generosity of the Boruch & Aksana Freedman Family.<br />

Moon Over Buffalo! (by Ken Ludwig)<br />

The hilarious Moon Over Buffalo centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950's. On the brink of a<br />

disastrous split-up caused by George’s alliance with a young ingénue, they receive word that they might just have one<br />

last shot at stardom. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong!<br />

Dates: September 14-25<br />

Oliver (Book, Music, and Lyrics by Lionel Bart) A musical adaptation of the classic Dickens tale, where an orphan meets a<br />

pickpocket on the streets of London. From there, he joins a household of boys who are trained to steal for their master.<br />

Dates: November 30-December 21.<br />

Steel Magnolias (by Robert Harling)<br />

Revolving around Truvy's Beauty Parlor in a small parish in modern-day Louisiana, Steel Magnolias is the story of a close-knit<br />

circle of friends whose lives come together there. Filled with humor and heartbreak, these "Steel Magnolias" make us<br />

laugh and cry as the realities of their lives in tiny Chiquapin Parish unfolds. Directed by John Ferry<br />

Dates: January 11-22<br />

Guys & Dolls Jr. (Music and Lyrics by Frank Loesser) Set in New York City, Guys And Dolls Junior introduces us to<br />

colorful characters who have become legends in the musical theatre canon: Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight<br />

"mission doll"; Sky Masterson, the slick gambler who woos her; Adelaide, a nightclub performer whose chronic flu is<br />

brought on by the fact she's been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiance,<br />

desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating dice game. Directed by Ashley Blake Fisher<br />

Dates: March 14-25<br />

The Importance Of Being Earnest (by Oscar Wilde): First performed in London, this is a comedy in which the<br />

protagonists maintain fictitious personae in order to escape burdensome social obligations. Its high farce and witty<br />

dialogue have helped make it one of Wilde's most enduringly popular plays.<br />

Dates: April 18-29.<br />

One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest (by Dale Wasserman)<br />

Upon arrival at a mental institution, a brash rebel rallies the patients together to take on the oppressive Nurse Ratched,<br />

a woman more a dictator than a nurse. The 1975 film was the second to win all five major Academy Awards.<br />

Dates: May 9-20<br />
