There’s only one place to be on the
weekend of May 2-4, 2008, and that is
at the soon to be former campus of our
alma mater. Messrs Buckley, Hofmaier,
and Mayock are leading the charge to
fire up our classmates (with help from
Branegan, Carey, Dayton, Fenimore,
and Young) and create a weekend to remember.
As usual there is talk of some
off campus merrymaking on Friday
night (details to follow), but also we are
looking forward to a chance to say farewell
to Merion. Make your plans to join

David Fenimore will spend the first five
months of 2008 teaching American and
comparative literature at the University
of the Basque Country in San Sebastian,
Spain. However, he intends to return for
the weekend to join his classmates at
their 40th reunion and say farewell to
the old campus in May.

Tony Apesos reports: “It’s been a long
time since I’ve given any news for my
EA chums. I live in Boston with my wife,
Natasha Seaman, and our seven-yearold
daughter, Helen. I teach painting,
drawing, and art history at the Art Institute
of Boston at Lesley University. My
first book just came out last fall, Anatomy
for Artists: A New Approach to
Discovering, Learning, and Remembering
the Body (Northlight Books, 2007).
I see Bill Bishop, who recently moved to
Boston, regularly.”

Who would have believed we could
get so old so fast Drop everything and
write down these dates to celebrate our
35th Reunion: May 2-4, 2008. There
is no excuse for missing the fun which
will include a 5 School Party on Friday
May 2 (9 p.m. tentative start time) leaving
time for small group dinners with
friends you don’t want to share with a
bigger group. There are rumors that a
band that played together 35 years ago
will be playing on Friday night with a
certain EA employee not to be named
(but a member of our class). We are
also inviting the classes of 1972 and
1974 to join us. Saturday night we will
have our chance to say goodbye to the
Merion campus, maybe shed a few tears
for the old Upper School, and do some
more dancing. Reunion Co-Chairs Chip
French and Rex Gary, along with Peter
Beller, JJ Broderick, David Cunningham,
Martin Heldring, Gary Hodder,

Jim Brooke reports, “Last year, I
moved from Tokyo to Moscow, where
Bloomberg News made me Russia bureau
chief. A few weeks ago, Bloomberg
and I amicably parted ways. After 30
years (!) as a news reporter, I decided to
finally take the plunge into business. Last
week, I started a new career, with Jones
Lang LaSalle, the international real estate
consultancy. My post is to work as
an ambassador for the company in Russia
and former Soviet Union and to work
on two special projects – St. Petersburg
and the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi
– two Russian cities that are dear to my
heart. On the home front, all well. I was
able to take six weeks off between jobs
to spend time with Elizabeth and the
boys in Katonah, NY, where James is in
his last year at John Jay High School.
William is a sophomore at Andover
and Alex is a sophomore at St. Paul’s.
In 1969, I left EA for St. Paul’s, following
in the footsteps of my father, who
traveled the same route around 1920.
