Alumni Ice Hockey Alumni Keep the Two-Game Tradition Alive Several EA alums suited up for a practice and mixed with current EA players on the ice for the Blue and White game in mid-December. Later in the week, the EA alumni met Haverford’s alumni for the 3rd annual competition at the Skatium in Havertown. This year’s turnout for the EA/Haverford Alumni game was the strongest yet! Despite the pre-game rally, an early lead, and depth on the bench, the EA alumni squad dropped a tough game to the Haverford alums. Back row: Adam Murray ’02, Josh McLane ’06, Scott Huston ’91, Marc Mandeville, Alex Terzian ’06, Drew Evans ’02, Bryan Aronchick ’99, Dan White ’99, BJ Stone ’05, Will Brinks ’07, Ryan Dempsey ’99, Eric Kraus ’94, and Will Oldfather ’07. Front row: Ian Wessels ’04, Alex Leisenring ’04, Gerry Marks ’82, Lou Merlini ’99, Jan Koziara ’94, and Greg Bozzi ’83. Fall & Winter Regional Receptions Head of School, Ham Clark, and Director of Alumni, Clayton Platt ’73, had a lot to share with alumni during the fall and winter regional receptions. The East Coast regional road show took the two to the home of Betsy Smith ’84 and Steve Hash in Rye, NY; the Harvard Faculty Club in Cambridge, MA; the Metropolitan Club in Washington, DC; and the Williams Club in New York City. With the new campus project fully underway and interest about the new campus continuing to grow, this year’s series of events proved to be a great opportunity to talk about what lies ahead as EA moves west. The past was not forgotten, however, and many EA faculty members were present to share stories about days gone by. Cannie Shafer, George Hebard, Bob Parr, Lance Cave, and Anne Hall joined the traveling Alumni Office to spread the good word about EA in New York and Boston. Philadelphia Rye Erin (O’Brien) Dugery ’89 is a woman of seemingly boundless energy. Married to fellow alum, David Dugery ’86, she has four children at Episcopal, ranging from 1st to 5th grades, serves on the Alumni Society Board of Managers, and runs a small but growing business out of her barn in Newtown Square. In the spirit of community service and philanthropy that was engendered in her days as a student at EA, Erin has found a way to honor her sister, Kelly Rooney, who died several years ago of breast cancer. Erin started her business, Save Second Base, as a means to keep alive the memory of her sister’s love of life and wicked sense of humor. Save Second Base sells casual apparel such as hats and tee shirts, and Erin funnels all profits to the Kelly Rooney Foundation, which in turn helps fund two non-profit organizations dedicated to finding a cure for breast cancer. Caroline D’Angelo ’03, Jay Crawford ’57, and Catherine Hay ’03 Using the contacts she made through her work with Save Second Base, Erin recently helped organize an effort on behalf of the Alumni Society Board of Managers to design and sell tee shirts commemorating the last EA/ Haverford/AIS Weekend on the Merion Campus. Working with classmate Charlie Moleski ’89 who helped on the design side, Erin was able to connect with a manufacturer who produced the hats and long sleeve tees at a very affordable price, allowing the Society to raise funds on each item sold. These great items are available at the school store and soon on the Alumni Society Web page, www.episcopalacademy.org/ alumni. Winter 2008 23
