Jazz Album of 2010 by iTunes. Produced by Grammy winners John Burk and Marcus Miller, the album features a diverse army of high-profile guests: Herb Alpert, Jonathan Butler, Brian Culbertson, Sheila E., Boney James, Jeff Lorber, Keb’ Mo’, Ray Parker, Jr., Lee Ritenour, Christian Scott and others. An accomplished composer, Mr. Koz wrote most of the 13 tracks himself. Koz has offered invaluable input to Yamaha, and has been called upon to test instruments at the Yamaha Los Angeles Atelier for consistency. After playing 23 seemingly identical YAS-62IIS saxophones several times each, Mr. Koz noted the exceptional quality of every single instrument, but identified 15 of the 23 as being uniquely remarkable and professional-gig-ready. Each Dave Koz Artist Selected instrument has a special oval badge just above the serial number and is currently for sale along with a signed authenticity card. Beyond playing the saxophone, Koz serves as a radio personality. On weekdays, he hosts a national radio show on the Smooth Jazz Radio Network. On weekends, he hosts the internationally syndicated Dave Koz Radio Show, now in its 15th year in approximately 120 markets. He is also the global ambassador for Starlight Foundation, an organization dedicated to brightening the lives of sick kids and their families. Mr. Koz also works as an instrumental music advocate, serving on the board of directors for the GRAMMY Foundation, where he works to preserve America's cultural legacy and bring music to children in the classrooms. Mr. Koz also recently partnered with Vinum Cellars, a Napa Valley boutique winery, and Whole Foods Market to introduce three types of KOZ wines. He is donating all his proceeds from KOZ wines - available exclusively at Whole Foods Market stores in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada - to help Starlight continue its vital mission. YAMAHA EXPANDS ARTIST ROSTER WITH DIVERSE NEW TALENT INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Yamaha Artist Services Indianapolis expands its roster with the signing of several diverse, gifted and highly accomplished musical artists: trombonists Reggie Young and David Finlayson, violinist David Ragsdale and crossover classical music sensation 2CELLOS. “These remarkable musicians enrich our celebrated artist roster,” said John Wittmann, Director, Artist Relations, Yamaha Corporation of America. “They each bring a unique talent and fresh perspective to the music scene and attract a widely diverse audience. We look forward to helping each of them build on their unique contributions through their association with Yamaha.” 2CELLOS is a duo consisting of cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, accomplished musicians who both have played the cello since childhood. Luka recently completed studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London, while Stjepan completed his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Both members have performed all over the world at renowned venues including London’s Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Vienna’s Musikverein and Konzerthaus, and each boasts a slew of first-place prizes in international cello competitions. Their passionate dueling cellos rendition of Michael Jackson's “Smooth Criminal” became a near-instant Internet sensation, receiving over five million hits on YouTube in less than three months. The duo recently launched their debut album featuring unique versions of well-known rock and pop songs, including “Use Somebody” (Kings of Leon), “The Resistance” (Muse), “With or Without You” (U2), “Viva La Vida” (Coldplay) and “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (Nirvana). Reggie Young (Trombone, Earth Wind & Fire) a Southern California native, began playing trombone at the ripe age of 12. By the time he was 14, Reggie had already played his first professional gig with the Henry Grant Big Band featuring Les McCann and had begun studying privately with world-renowned trombonist George Bohanon. He graduated early from Locke High School to attend the Los Angeles City College where he was subsequently offered an 55 of 55
