<strong>The</strong> Government’s strategy to help<br />

adults who have missed out on<br />

educational achievement. It aims to<br />

improve the literacy, language <strong>and</strong><br />

numeracy skills of 1.5 million adults.<br />

<strong>Skills</strong> Funding Agency<br />

This agency oversees the distribution<br />

of funds to the sector <strong>and</strong> manages<br />

the per<strong>for</strong>mance of FE colleges.<br />

It houses the NAS, the National<br />

Employer Service <strong>and</strong> the Adult <strong>and</strong><br />

impartial advice from the Train to<br />

<strong>The</strong> Government launched its <strong>Skills</strong><br />

Strategy in July 2003, promising to<br />

improve support <strong>for</strong> businesses that<br />

develop their work<strong>for</strong>ces.<br />

Train to Gain<br />

Train to Gain helps employers to find<br />

the training they need <strong>for</strong> their staff.<br />

A dedicated skills broker analyses<br />

individual business needs <strong>and</strong> works<br />

with each employer to help them plan<br />

a tailored training programme. Train<br />

to Gain skills brokers do not work <strong>for</strong><br />

any training organisation, so the advice<br />

they give to employers is impartial.<br />

Young People’s <strong>Learning</strong> Agency<br />

(YPLA)<br />

A national non-departmental<br />

public body with responsibility <strong>for</strong><br />

championing education <strong>and</strong> training<br />

<strong>for</strong> young people in Engl<strong>and</strong>. It does<br />

this by providing financial support<br />

to young learners, by funding<br />

Academies <strong>for</strong> all their provision<br />

<strong>and</strong> by supporting local authorities<br />

to commission suitable education<br />

<strong>and</strong> training opportunities <strong>for</strong> all<br />
