National Council<br />

Appointment was <strong>for</strong> a fixed term,<br />

usually four years, <strong>and</strong> on a part-time<br />

basis – at least two days a week were<br />

expected to be devoted to the work<br />

of the LSC.<br />

<strong>The</strong> salary <strong>for</strong> the year to March 2010<br />

was £51,400. Salary was reviewed in<br />

accordance with guidance provided<br />

by the Cabinet Office covering the<br />

pay of statutory office holders (their<br />

salaries are linked to movements in<br />

the Senior Civil Service pay b<strong>and</strong>s).<br />

Travel, subsistence <strong>and</strong> other expenses<br />

were payable in line with the latest<br />

terms <strong>for</strong> LSC executive staff. <strong>The</strong>re<br />

have been no bonus payments <strong>for</strong> this<br />

appointment.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Chief Executive Geoffrey Russell<br />

was appointed on a fixed-term<br />

contract that ended on 31 March 2010.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re were no specific termination<br />

clauses in Management Group member<br />

service contracts.<br />

<strong>The</strong> preceding narrative section of<br />

the Remuneration <strong>Report</strong> has not<br />

been subject to audit. However that<br />

remaining part of the Remuneration<br />

<strong>Report</strong> on pages 24 to 29 has been<br />

audited.<br />

Leadership <strong>and</strong> Governance<br />

Resignation could be at any time by<br />

notice in writing to the Secretary of<br />

State <strong>for</strong> Business, Innovation <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>Skills</strong>. <strong>The</strong> Secretary of State could, by<br />

giving written notice, remove the Chair<br />

from office if he or she was satisfied<br />

that the member had not attended<br />

National Council meetings <strong>for</strong> more<br />

than six consecutive months, or that<br />

the member was unable or unfit to<br />

carry out their role, or by giving six<br />

months’ notice in writing.<br />
