EZ-Vision® In-Gel Solution, 10,000X is a non-mutagenic and non-toxic fluorescent 

DNA dye that is used as an in-gel or post-run stain to visualize DNA in agarose 

gels. EZ-Vision® In-Gel Solution is an excellent replacement for the often used, 

but hazardous ethidium bromide. As an in-gel preparation for electrophoresis, 

EZ-Vision® In-Gel Solution is simply added to molten agarose prior to gel casting, 

allowing instant visualization of DNA bands upon UV exposure. Alternatively, EZ- 

Vision® In-Gel Solution can be used to stain the gel after electrophoresis.

Wide Range of Results 

Highly Sensitive 

EZ-Vision® In-Gel Detection of Different Sized DNA. DNA markers were mixed with 6X Agarose Gel Loading Buffer 

(E190) and applied to either a 2.5% (A) or a 0.6% (B) TAE agarose gel. AMRESCO’s 100 bp Ladder (K180), DNA MicroMarker 

(E840) and PCR DNA Marker (E854) were loaded in lanes 1-3, respectively (A). AMRESCO’s 1kb Ladder (K181), Low Range 

I Marker (E261), Low Range II Marker (E683) and Low Range III Marker (E687) were loaded in lanes 1-4, respectively (B). 

Samples were resolved for 1 hour at 6.4 V/cm in 1X TAE buffer. Fluorescent visualization of DNA was achieved with a 600 msec 

UV exposure using a SYBR® Green filter with the Syngene GBox-HR Gel Doc System. 

EZ-Vision® In-Gel Sensitivity. DNA (2.5 ng - 80 ng) was mixed with 6X Agarose Gel Loading Buffer (E190) 

and applied to a 1% TAE agarose gel. Samples were resolved for 1 hour at 6.4 V/cm in 1X TAE buffer. Fluorescent 

visualization of DNA was achieved with a 500 msec UV exposure using a SYBR® Green filter with the Syngene 

GBox-HR Gel Doc System.

Non-hazardous alternative to Coomassie® staining 

Protein EZ-Vision® is a non-hazardous, fluorescent reagent that produces instant 

visualization of protein bands upon UV illumination of SDS-PAGE gels. Supplied in 

a 4X loading buffer, Protein EZ-Vision® comigrates with the protein-SDS complex 

during electrophoresis. Post-run staining and destaining is completely eliminated 

and results can be visualized immediately after the run by placing the 

gel on a standard UV transilluminator.

Comparable Sensitivity 

Compatible with Western Blotting 

Sensitivity of Protein EZ-Vision® (A) compared to Coomassie® Blue sensitivity (B). Both figures were generated 

using the same gel for comparison. Two-fold serial dilutions of bovine serum albumin (BSA) were separated via a 12.5% 

Laemmli SDS-PAGE gel using Protein EZ-Vision®, 4X as the sample loading buffer. Lane 7 is approximately 100ng protein. 

Immediate fluorescent visualization of protein post-electrophoresis was achieved with a 2 sec UV exposure using a SYBR® 

Green filter with the Syngene GBox-HR Gel Doc System (A). The same gel was post-stained with Coomassie® Blue protein 

stain for one hour and destained one hour (B). 

Protein EZ-Vision® is compatible with downstream Western 

blotting applications. 10μL of AMRESCO's Wide Range Protein 

Molecular Weight Markers (K494, lanes A1 and B3) and 10μg of K562 

cell lysate (lanes A2 and B4) were run on a 12.5% Laemmli SDS-PAGE 

gel using Protein EZ-Vision®, 4X (N836) as the sample loading buffer. 

Immediate fluorescent visualization of protein post-electrophoresis 

in lanes A1 and A2 was achieved with a 2 sec UV exposure using a 

SYBR® Green filter with the Syngene GBox-HR Gel Doc System. Lanes 

B3 and B4 were post-stained with Coomassie® Blue protein stain for 

one hour and destained one hour. Proteins from Lanes A1 and A2, 

which were detected using Protein EZ-Vision® (A), were transferred 

onto a PVDF membrane with a semi-dry transfer unit and probed 

with Vimentin antibody using AMRESCO’s Rapid Western Blotting 

Kit-Rabbit-SDT (N791, lanes C1 and C2). AMRESCO’s VisiGlo Plus HRP 

Chemiluminescent Substrate Kit (N219) was used for detection.

EZ-Vision® DNA Dye as Loading Buffer provides a safe, non-mutagenic alternative 

to ethidium bromide for instantaneous fluorescent DNA band visualization. It is an 

environmentally friendly dye that requires no special handling or disposal. Since 

it is non-hazardous, there are no hazardous shipping, storage or waste charges. 

EZ-Vision® DNA Dye, supplied in a 6X loading buffer, immediately fluoresces upon 

UV illumination when bound to DNA. Therefore, DNA samples can be visualized 

after electrophoresis without any additional staining or destaining steps. The EZ- 

Vision® DNA Dye has a very broad emission spectrum, with a peak near 450nm, 

which works with most standard gel documentation filters.

Three different tracking dye options are available. Each version contains 

the same non-hazardous fluorescent DNA dye and loading buffer. 

EZ-Vision® One: One tracking dye migrating at approximately 

10 bp in a 1% agarose gel

4,000 bp and 400 bp in a 1% agarose gel

EZ-Vision® Mutagenicity Testing 

EZ-Vision® mutagenicity was determined by Ames testing of S. typhimurium with 

and without metabolic activation in an S-9 activation system. Results indicated that 

EZ-Vision® was non-mutagenic at all concentrations tested. See test results below.

EZ-Vision® Toxicity Testing 

EZ-Vision® environmental toxicity testing was performed by using the CCR Title 22 

Fathead Minnow Hazardous Waste Screen Bioassay. Results indicated that EZ-Vision® 

was non-toxic at all concentrations tested. 

DNA Migration in Agarose Gels 


Relative migration of pre-stained samples of dsDNA in a 1% agarose gel with EZ Vision®, Competitor 

Dye, and Ethidium Bromide. The data shows that EZ-Vision® has much less effect on DNA migration than ethidium 

bromide or the competitor dye. Samples stained with EZ-Vision® are not impeded and migrate similar to dsDNA that 

is stained post electrophoresis. 


RNA Analysis - Stains and Dyes 

RNA EZ-Vision® Dye as Loading Buffer 

Non-mutagenic alternative to Ethidium Bromide for RNA 

RNA EZ-Vision® is a non-mutagenic, fluorescent dye for staining RNA bands resolved 

on denaturing agarose gels containing formaldehyde. Supplied in a 1.5X loading 

buffer, RNA EZ-Vision® comigrates with the RNA samples during electrophoresis 

and provides immediate band visualization upon illumination with UV light. No 

post-run staining or destaining is needed. The loading buffer includes formamide 

and bromophenol blue tracking dye.

Total RNA was purified from K562 cells with Ribozol RNA Extraction Reagent. Samples were denatured at 

65°C for 10 minutes in RNA EZ-Vision® loading buffer containing either 0.003% ethidium bromide or RNA EZ-Vision® 

dye. The denatured RNA was loaded onto a 2% formaldehyde denaturing agarose gel (Agarose I, Code: 0710) and 

resolved for 1.5 hours at 5.1 V/cm. Bands were visualized by UV illumination and image capture was performed with a 

Syngene GBox-HR Gel Doc System with a SYBR® Green filter.
