Typical Nx64 Kbps connections to a PDH infrastructure are shown below. As the backbone imposes the
clock, the equipment connected to the network necessarily operates in external or station clock, the end
points in slave receive. In external clock, the modem clock is derived from the incoming G.703 signal, in
case of station clock, the clock signal is transferred separately.
