Telkibánya lies inside the remnants of a caldera surrounded by rhyolitic volcanic cones. The<br />
rhyolitic rocks have a great variety: vesicular-amygdule lava rocks, welded tuffs, which were<br />
deposited as ardent volcanic ash, or fast-cooled, glassy varieties, like obsidian and perlite all occur<br />
in the surroundings of the village. The latter, an important isolator raw material, is mined at<br />
Pálháza, but there is a small abandoned quarry at Telkibánya too.<br />
The second volcanic phase produced not only ignimbrite flows and small domes, but also the goldsilver<br />
ore mineralization the miners were searching for. The host rock of this mineralization is<br />
andesite from the first volcanic phase. The ore formation was accompanied by rock alteration<br />
