Died: March 17, 2012
In the early morning of Saturday, March 17, 2012, after having battled cancer
for several months, Grand Knight Rudy Koenig succumbed to the killer disease
and passed to his Eternal Reward.
Memorare Council is very much saddened by its loss and extends to Rudy's
wife, Sister Columbiette Lisa, son Randy, daughters Gretchen, Alexis, Lindsay
and his grandchildren its deepest sympathy on the loss of their beloved Rudy.
Memogram is pleased to print, in part, an e-mail sent to the Council members
from FS Dennis Glander on the morning of Rudy's death which expresses the
love that Rudy had for Memorare, ".........I thought of Rudy and the fact that he
was now pain free and with Our Lord Jesus in Heaven and truly walking on
sunshine. That thought brought a smile to my face and then I started thinking
about all the good things that happened to Rudy in his life like loving his wife, 3
daughters and son, his sons-in-law and his grandchildren. His love for the Knights
of Columbus and all that he has done for the camaraderie of our brotherhood,
like organizing the annual Council Fishing trip, the 300 Club, Commodore of the
Memorare Yacht Club and his love of boating and fishing, maintaining the football
and Superbowl pools and Superbowl party, organizing the St. Valentine party
and the Halloween costume party, not to mention all the things that he has done
for the 4th Degree also.
So the next time you go to the Council or are on a boat or fishing or watching
a football game or mailing your sweetie a Valentine card, please think of Rudy
and say a prayer.
God bless you Rudy, you will be missed."

Our Annual Spring Social will be at

8:30 PM, Memorare will host its Spring Blood
Drive.
Complimentary roast beef dinner will be
served to all donors.
Blood is always in great demand on Long
Island and we urge you to give a pint, if possible,
and if you cannot donate, ask a friend, neighbor,
family member or co-worker to donate.
Remember, a pint saves 5 lives.

As this issue went to press, we mourned
the loss of our Worthy Grand Knight Rudy
Koenig. Our condolences to Rudy's wife, Sis.
Col. Lisa, and his family on the loss of their
beloved husband, father and grandfather.
May he rest in Christ's Heavenly Peace.
Since our last issue, February/March,
Memorare has seen 2 more of its hard workers
go to their Eternal Reward, Bro. Gene
Bree and Bro. Roy Emmanuel Both Brother
Knights did not chair any activity but both
were extremely active behind the scenes. Bro.
Bree assisted in handling the bookings for
the Columbian Room and other Club functions.
Bro. Emmanuel assisted in the kitchen
for Council functions and was a valuable
supporter of the Guide Dog Foundation.
Both members will be missed and we pray
that they are at peace in Christ's Heavenly
Arms.
I almost passed out from excitement when
FS Dennis Glander notified me that I won the
300 Club $35 drawing 2 weeks in a row. That
never happened in all the years I have been
in the Club. The money came in handy when
I went out a bought my NY Giant Championship
hat and sweatshirt.
Memorare has rescheduled the 60th Anniversary
Dinner Dance to June 23 because
many members who wanted to attend flew
south for the winter so the Council changed
the date to accommodate them.
On a happy note, this is April and my
daughter, Joann, whom most of you remember,
is beaming since her birthday comes on
April 24 which is the same day that she is
appearing in the Anchor program production
of “Footloose". Happy Birthday, Joann.
Also, I would like to wish my son, Bro.
Michael, and his wife, Anna, a happy 22nd
wedding anniversary on April 8. Both
Michael and Anna are on cloud 9 with the
birth of their first grandson, Alexander, born
on February 6. That makes Dolores and I great
grandparents. Whew.
I'll leave with this thought for Easter, "Lord,
may my heart resound with joy over the
miracle of Your Resurrection."

RESOLUTION
"In so far as the By-Laws of
Memorare Council 3476, K. of C. prohibit
the disbursement of funds from the
Council Treasury in excess of $500.00
unless approved by a two thirds vote of
the membership present at a regular business
meeting of the Council, (Ref.: AR-
TICLE VII, Section 3) it shall be hereby
resolved by said vote that the amount of
$520.00 shall be paid from the Council
Treasury to secure reservations for eight
persons to attend and represent
Memorare Council at the April 28, 2012
Nassau Chapter K. of C. Charity Ball."
This resolution was read at the
Council’s March 7,2012, meeting and will
be voted by the members present at the
Council’s April 4th meeting.

The Lyon Agency, Knights of Columbus,
which services Memorare
Council, finished 2011 ranked #1 in
New York State and finished over
100%of its quota for the third straight
year.
Field Agent Art McQuillan, PGK,
PFN, FDD was Field Agent of the Year
and while battling cancer he finished the
year, 2011, at 106% of his quota. Great

on your feet again.

At the meeting in February we had
a visit from Columbiette Nancy Black
who told the girls about her trip to Haiti
and what their donation meant to them.
We heard the food drive needed help
for the Easter baskets so in March the
girls collected more food to help out.
They also helped the Columbiettes with
the transcription for the blind workshop
and completed two books. They will
be helping again the end of this month.
We will also help at the Knights fishing
event at Belmont.
And will also be attending the
Columbiette Communion Breakfast.

has held 2 meetings since the last
issue.
Meeting of January 30, 2012
Meeting opened with prayers and
the Pledge of Allegiance at 7:35 PM. Roll
call of Directors was taken.
Club President George Milligan spoke
on the success of the Club's Chicken
Dinner that was held on January 19. He
thanked PGK John Campanaro, Larry
Goggin and all who helped prepare, cook
and serve the meal.
Under the STEWARD Committee,
the Directors approved the new contract
with our caterer, Perfect Pair.
FOOD AUDIT Chairman Jim Miller
prepared his report for January. Meeting
adjourned at 9 PM with prayers.
Meeting of February 23, 2012
Meeting opened at 7:35 PM with
prayers and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Club Secretary John Savin read the roil
call of Directors and the minutes of the
January 30 meeting were accepted as
modified and corrected.
Various Club Committees made some
very substantial reports on their
activities which were technical in nature
therefore I listened but took no notes for
this column.
If you want to hear all that goes on at
a Board meeting, come to a Board meeting
on the last Monday of each month.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:20 PM
with prayers.
Next Board meeting will be Monday,
April 30, 2012, at 7:30 PM.

Welcome back to another Retired
Knights column. Our Jan 16 meeting saw
a small turnout. I am sure the freezing
weather and the holiday were the major
cause. Uhhh right fellas?
Mark your calendars now! June 21st
is the date for our annual picnic. More
details to follow.
Brother Tony D'Napolis' niece Heather
went through a double lung transplant due
to Cystic Fibrosis. I am happy to report
the operation was a success. Heather is
recuperating and no longer considered a
Cystic Fibrosis patient. Also Bro. Chuck
Palermo's wife Marie had a thyroid operation.
I can also report that all went well
and she is recuperating at home as well.
It was good to see Bro John Brennan
after his time in the hospital.
I am sad to report the passing of
Brother Roy Emanuel. Roy was an exceptional
Knight and was a behind the
scene worker with the guide dog foundation,
Memogram mailing and many
other activities. He will be sorely missed.
We also extend our condolences &
prayers to PGK Sal DeAngelo and family
on the passing of his mother.
May they both rest in peace. Our
prayers go out to all the families.

We had our St. Patrick's Day luncheon
on March 12th Corned beef & turkey
sandwiches along with salads, beer wine
and soda were served. A great time was
had by all.

is becoming less of a retired knights
column and more like a medical report.
Not easy getting old.
There is an issue I feel I must address.
I am a member of the council's wake committee.
The
last wake I attended there were 4 officers
at 1 and 4 members. The next one there
were 3 officers and 2 members. I did one
of the officer's parts. Brothers, this committee
only requests 45 minutes of your
time, which doesn't seem like much, but
it means a great deal to the family members
of the deceased. It will make you feel
better for being a part of this. Please try
to make the time to attend. After all, isn't
that what the KOC is about?
In my last column it was reported that
the R.K. Christmas party was attended by
101 guests. It was actually attended by
181 guests!

BREAKFAST
Sunday, May 20, 2012, is the date
for Memorare Council's Annual Communion
Breakfast when the Council
honors the Family of the Year and the
Knight of the Year whose names will
be revealed in the May/June issue of
the Memogram.
The Breakfast will be held in the
Cathedral Room immediately following
the 9:15 AM Mass in St. William
the Abbot Church.
The fare for the Breakfast is
scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage patties,
home fries, hot and cold cereal,
fruit, salad, bagels with jelly and cream
cheese, coffee, tea, juice.
Tickets are $7 per person and are
now on sale from Chairman Bob Wahl,
799-8716, and can be purchased at the
Council's two April and May meetings
and on Tuesday evenings in the
Columbian Room.

its 22nd annual '50's/'60's Dinner
Dance On Saturday, April 28, 2012,
in the Cathedral Room from 7:30 PM

food, drink and merriment starting with

FOUNDATION NEWS
TRUSTEES AT LARGE
ELECTION
An election for five foundation trustees
at large is being scheduled for 9/
19/12. The three year term of office will
begin 10/1/2012 and end 9/30/2015.
If you are interested, make your interest
known to a foundation officer or
trustee. You may also place your name
in nomination at the council meeting on
9/5/12.
The principal duties of trustees are
to oversee and assist officers in performing
foundation activities under its
bylaws, insure proper publicity and to
accept nominations from the membership
for candidates to foundation office.
At present the foundation meets
to conduct its business at four quarterly
meetings which are also open to any
brother knight. Currently, meetings are
scheduled on Thursdays at 7:30pm.
The next scheduled meetings are 5/17/
12 and 9/20/12.
All five trustees at large positions will
be elected by the general membership
under foundation bylaws on 9/19/12.
Sal Canzoneri, PFN Bill Roller, Mike
Bonagura, PGK Pat Vivona and Mike
Whitty are currently serving as trustees
at large in addition to the Grand Knight
and Club President, who serve by virtue
of their office. It is expected that
the current trustees at large will seek

concurrently hold an office in either
Memorare Council or Club. Any eligible
brother knights who are interested
In serving as a foundation trustee at
large should make their interest known
to any foundation trustee or officer.

The council Fluke fishing trip will
be Sat. July 7th on the "Yankee" in

some of the "KIDS". Price and time

The NYSDEC is having their "Family
Fishing Day" at Belmont Lake State
Park on Sat. April 14th it is a great time
for the kids. We have fishing demonstrations,
prizes and lotsa fun. Come
out and enjoy yourselves.
Our June meeting is rescheduled for
Tuesday June 19th Mark your calendar.
Our meeting nights are:4/16, 5/21,
Tues 6/19, 7/16,8'20,9/17, 10/15, 11/19,
and 12/17 There will be guest speakers
and tackle demonstrations periodically.

12 of us are going striped bass fishing
in June in Cape Cod. Can't wait. We
are still trying to get a group together
for cod fishing before spring.
There are still some tackle shows going
on but it is now time to get your
tackle and boats cleaned up.
FISHING-1 like to fish because it is totally
relaxing. I love the water. I can
concentrate and forget all my worries.

Dinner for our seminarians whom the
Council is financially assisting on their
journey to the Holy Priesthood will be held
on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at 7 PM, in
the Cathedral Room.
The menu is on half chicken, potato,
vegetables, ice cream, beer, wine and soda.
The cost is $15 per person and tickets

the Yankee III for a great day of family fishing! We will fish for fluke and other bay species
at Fire Island Inlet and the surrounding bay areas!
Date: Saturday, July 7, 2012
Time: Departure at 8:00 AM and Return at 3:00 PM.
Boat: Yankee III
Dock: Captree State Park Boat Basin.
Rate: $45.00 for adults & $27.00 for children under 12 years of age.
This price includes your fare, fishing rods, bait, ice, fish cleaning, filet bags and the
customary gratuity for the mates! Free coffee and bagels will be served for breakfast and as
usual, "bring your lunch and catch your dinner"! (Alcoholic beverages are permitted but
drinking is restricted to persons over the age of 21)
The Memorare Fishing Club will provide prizes of fishing gear for the kids at no
additional cost! (Fish Pools for the adults will be offered at separate cost to enter.)
Car pools can be formed as volunteer drivers offer their services and should depart from the
Council parking lot at 7:00 AM. Let's get together to kick off the summer with this annual
family event and have a great time with our brother Knights and their families!
