ADULT SOFTBALL REGULATIONS<br />

1. Team Rosters:<br />

A. A complete team roster is required for all teams. Team rosters must be turned into the Athletic<br />

Administration Office. Teams must have a miniumun of 10 players on their roster, teams may add<br />

additional players by the 3 rd Friday from the start date of each new season. Teams adding players<br />

before the frozen dates must do so between the hours of 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at<br />

the Athletic Office, 6631 S. University Blvd.<br />

B. Each player is required to have a photo ID with them at all games.<br />

C. In order to qualify for the playoffs a rostered player must play in at least 3 regular season games.<br />

2. Eligibility <strong>Rules</strong>:<br />

A. Ineligible Player: Use of an ineligible player will result in the player not being able to play in said game.<br />

Problems with this rule could lead to possible forfeiture of all games in which the ineligible player<br />

participated <strong>and</strong> said player will be suspended from all further play for the current season.<br />

B. An individual must be 18 years of age to participate.<br />

C. Players can play on as many teams as they wish providing they stay within the same classification. If a<br />

player plays under an assumed name, or in a different classification, he/she will be considered an<br />

ineligible player. Players may not play on different teams in the same league.<br />

D. Team managers are responsible for briefing each team member about league rules. Managers are<br />

responsible for the conduct of his/her team during league <strong>and</strong> tournament play. They are also<br />

responsible for obtaining all make-up <strong>and</strong> tournament information.<br />

E. Men & Women can play in Men's or Co-Rec leagues. Women can only play in Women's leagues.<br />

Penalty: Player is ineligible.<br />

3. League Classification: (Classifications vary by season)<br />

Men's C<br />

Team is allowed 4 home runs per game.<br />

Men's D Comp<br />

Team is allowed 4 home run per game.<br />

Men's D Open<br />

Team is allowed 3 home run per game.<br />

Men's D Rec<br />

Team is allowed 2 home run per game.<br />

Men's E<br />

Team is allowed 1 home run per game<br />

Co-Rec C<br />

Team is allowed 3 home runs per game.<br />

Co-Rec D<br />

Team is allowed 2 home run per game.<br />

Co-Rec E<br />

Team is allowed 1 home run per game<br />

Women's C & D<br />

No home run restrictions.<br />

A. <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> reserves the right to re-classify a team at any point in the season in order to maintain a<br />

fair balance of competition. Previous season record’s (if applicable) will be utilized to assit in<br />

classifying teams. It is recommended that if a team wins it respective division in the previous season<br />

that they move up to the next divison. The only exception is if a team is already playing in the highest<br />

division offered by <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong>.<br />

‣ <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> will do everything possible to keep teams at the fields <strong>and</strong> nights they signed up for but<br />

during make-ups, teams may play at any <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> field, or on any given day/night.


5. Inclement Weather Policy:<br />

A. Make-up games are presently scheduled for selected weekends, but could be scheduled for any day or<br />

night if fields are available.<br />

B. The Weather Line has a recorded message, which will inform teams of the status of that day or<br />

evening's game. Messages will not be recorded until 4:30 p.m. on weekdays <strong>and</strong> 2 hours prior to first<br />

scheduled weekend game. Updates are made as necessary.<br />

C. Please be patient with weather delays. All games will be rescheduled.<br />

D. Make up games schedules can be found on the <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> web page at www.teamsideline.com<br />

on the schedules/st<strong>and</strong>ings page. Make up schedules will also be e-mailed to all team managers,<br />

please make sure all your players know their make up dates <strong>and</strong> times.<br />

6. Game & Starting Times:<br />

A. The umpire has sole responsibility for keeping track of time & score. The starting time will begin right<br />

after the umpire tosses the coin.<br />

B. Slow pitch games will last 7-innings or 55 minutes.<br />

C. Batters will start with a 1 Ball, 1 Strike count when they come to bat. The batter will be out when the<br />

umpire calls two strikes. The batter is awarded first base when the umpire calls three balls.<br />

D. Foul Balls:<br />

The batter will be out when he/she hits two foul balls after one called strike or if the batter hits<br />

three consecutive foul balls.<br />

The ball is dead whether caught or not. Runners may not advance on the last foul ball that is<br />

considered an out.<br />

E. If after 3-½ innings <strong>and</strong> the home team is ahead by 15-runs or more, or after 4 innings <strong>and</strong> the home<br />

team is behind by 15 runs or more, the game will be considered over. If after 4-½ innings <strong>and</strong> the home<br />

team is ahead by 10-runs or more, or after 5 innings <strong>and</strong> the home team is behind by 10 runs or more,<br />

the game will be considered over.<br />

F. Extra Inning Play: All extra inning games <strong>and</strong> games tied after the time limit will start the first extra<br />

inning with the last player who batted in the previous inning on second base with no outs. Batters will<br />

get one pitch to put the ball into play. If batted ball goes foul batter will be out. If pitched ball is a strike<br />

<strong>and</strong> not swung at , batter is out. If pitched ball is a ball batter goes to first base. If, after one full extra<br />

inning, the game is still tied, the last player who batted from the previous inning will start on third base.<br />

All innings after this will start with the runner on third base.<br />

G. Games played on unlighted ball fields will be limited to one extra inning early in the season. As time<br />

<strong>and</strong> light permits, games may be played more than one extra inning. 6:00 p.m. games on unlighted<br />

fields may go a maximum of 2 extra innings. 6:55 p.m. games on unlighted fields can be played until<br />

darkness. If the game is tied or has not completed 4 1/2 or 5 innings, the game will be rescheduled <strong>and</strong><br />

continued from the point play was stopped <strong>and</strong> continue with the extra inning policy.<br />

H. If a game has to be called due to inclement weather, darkness, lightning, etc., it shall be resumed from<br />

the exact point where it was stopped as long as one inning has been completed. (Exception: If the<br />

game is not tied <strong>and</strong> 4-½ or 5 innings have been completed, depending on score/home team, the game<br />

is considered a complete game.)<br />

I. Game time is forfeit time with the following exceptions: Team with the legal number of players has the<br />

option of:<br />

1. Asking for immediate forfeit; or<br />

2. Starting the game clock <strong>and</strong> allow the team up to 5 minutes to get the proper number of legal<br />

players. Failure to field a team within the 5 minutes will result in a forfeit. NOTE: The waiting time<br />

is counted as game time. Umpires will NOT officiate forfeited games. Slow pitch <strong>and</strong> Co-Rec<br />

teams must have a minimum of at least 7 (4 <strong>and</strong> 3 for Co-Rec) players to start the game. The team<br />

with 7 players will become the visiting team <strong>and</strong> bat first. If the 8 th player does not arrive once the<br />

home team comes to bat, the game will be declared a forfeit. If both teams have fewer than 8<br />

players, a double forfeit will be declared. The score of a forfeited game is 10-0. In the event a<br />

double forfeit occurs, each team shall be credited with a loss, with the score being recorded as 0-0.<br />

J. Any player who arrives late is placed at the end of the batting order (up to 10 players), at any time<br />

during the game. After the game has started, any player after 10 who enters must enter as a substitute.<br />

K. Managers must hustle players on <strong>and</strong> off the field between innings. The umpire must first warn <strong>and</strong><br />

then call the game a forfeit if a team continues to employ tactics to delay a game.<br />

I. Any team with two or more forfeits in the spring/fall season will be eliminated from tournament play, any<br />

team with three or more forfeits in the summer league will be eliminated from tournament play.<br />

7. Jewelry<br />

A. All visible jewelry is prohibited on the field of play. Penalty: If player enters batting box wearing visible<br />

jewelry, batter will be declared an out. NO WARNINGS!<br />

8. Uniforms:<br />

A. Uniforms: Each team must have like color with at least a 4" non-duplicating number. Each player must<br />

have his or her own jersey. The opposing team manager before player(s) in question steps into the<br />

batter box must make enforcement of the jersey rule to the umpire for the first time. Otherwise player(s)<br />

will be eligible to play. Every team will have a 1 game grace period before the uniform rule will be in<br />

effect.<br />

9. Tie Breaking Procedure for League Play:<br />

A. Head to head competition between tied teams.<br />

B. Run differential in the head to head games.<br />

C. Run differential in all league games.<br />

‣ Runs earned vs. runs given up equals the differential.<br />

10. Awards:<br />

A. Team awards will be given for 1 st place in the spring, summer, <strong>and</strong> fall leagues. Individual awards will<br />

be given to the league champions. (based on number of paid players on roster).<br />

11. <strong>Rules</strong>:<br />

A. A.S.A. rules will govern play with the following exceptions:<br />

B. All leagues will use a home plate extension mat, total dimension is (3' x 2'.) A pitched ball that hits any<br />

part of home plate, including the black edge, or the extension mat is a strike. The arc of a pitched ball<br />

will be minimum 6' <strong>and</strong> maximum 10' (measured from the ground.)<br />

C. Extra inning games - See Rule 6D.<br />

D. No steel cleats will be allowed in any league. Shoes are to be molded soles only.<br />

E. Extra Player Rule<br />

1. An extra player referred to as an "EP" may be used by any team provided it is made known prior to<br />

the start of the game <strong>and</strong> the person's name is indicated in the line-up on the score sheet. It is not<br />

m<strong>and</strong>atory that a team use an EP but failure to declare such hitter(s) prior to the start of the game<br />

precludes the use of an EP in that game.<br />

2. A team may use one (1) or two (2) EP's in a game.<br />

3. The EP must remain in the same position(s) in the batting order for the entire game. The batting<br />

order must remain constant; however, any 10 of the 12 players may take a defensive position<br />

throughout the game.<br />

4. If a player or EP becomes unable to play due to injury or prior commitments <strong>and</strong> a substitute is not<br />

available, the team can finish the game with as few as 8 players <strong>and</strong> the vacant batting spot will not<br />

be counted as an out. Exception: If a player or EP is ejected from the game <strong>and</strong> a substitute is not<br />

available, the vacant spot in the batting order will be counted as an out.<br />

5. Substitutes must be a player who has not yet been in the game.<br />

6. Any of the starting players, including the EP, may be withdrawn from the line up <strong>and</strong> re-enter once.<br />

They must re-enter into the same spot in the batting order. NOTE: The original player <strong>and</strong> the<br />

substitute cannot be in the line-up at the same time.<br />

F. Illegal Bats: Any bat that does not have the ASA 2000 or 2004 certification decal on the bat is illegal.<br />

EXCEPTION: ALL Miken bats are illegal regardless of ASA certification decal.<br />

1. 1 st Offense: Batter st<strong>and</strong>s in batters box yielding illegal bat, batter will be declared out<br />

2. 2 nd Offense: Batter will be ejected from game.<br />

G. Umpires will be responsiable for keeping score, both teams may keep their own score. Ultimatly the<br />

umpire will have final say on final score.<br />

H. Ball must go over the fence on the fly to be considered a home run.<br />

Once a team has hit their allotted home runs over the fence, the next home run hit over the fence is an<br />

out.<br />

12. Warm-Up Pitches:<br />

Pitchers are allowed to warm up with 5 pitches in the first inning, thereafter each half inning will be allowed<br />

to have one warm up. When a pitcher relieves another, not more than one minute may be used to deliver<br />

not more than five warm-up pitches. Play shall be suspended during this time. For excessive warm-up<br />

pitches, a pitcher shall be penalized by awarding a ball to the batter. A pitcher returning to pitch in the same<br />

half inning will not receive warm-up pitches.<br />

13. Courtesy Runners:<br />

A. Courtesy Runners are permitted, must be the last recorded out.<br />

14. Non-rostered/illegal player:<br />

A. If a player(s) has participated in a previous game that evening the umpire will not allow them to play in<br />

any additional games for that evening, regardless if that individual is rostered on that team’s roster.<br />

B. If the umpire feels that a non-rostered or illegal player is about to play, the umpire will ask them if they<br />

are rostered on that team, if the individual says yes, their name will be recorded on the scoresheet so<br />

the umpire can check with the Athletics staff the next day. If the individual is a non-rostered player that<br />

game will be forfeited. If the individual states he is not on that team he will not be allowed to play.<br />

C. For any other circumstances other than above, the opposing manager must log the protest based on<br />

the protest rule 6C.<br />

15. Blood Rule:<br />

Any participant who is bleeding, or has an open wound, or has an excessive amount of blood on his or her<br />

uniform must leave the game. The participant may not return until either the bleeding has stopped, or the<br />

wound has been covered <strong>and</strong> b<strong>and</strong>aged, or uniform has been changed. Batter could be ruled out if<br />

sufficent time was given to clean wound <strong>and</strong> blood continues to flow (Delay of Game).<br />

16. Alcoholic Beverages:<br />

A. Teams are reminded that possession of <strong>and</strong> drinking of alcoholic beverages is prohibited by <strong>South</strong><br />

<strong>Suburban</strong> district ordinance. Teams may not have or consume alcoholic beverages in their dugouts or<br />

outside their dugouts before, during or after their game. Violations of this rule could result in game<br />

being forfeited, or possible arrest.<br />

B. Any player who is in an intoxicated condition will automatically be prohibited from playing.<br />

17. Double First Base:<br />

A. Runners must touch the orange bag when the ball is hit to the infield. Runner may touch either white or<br />

orange when the ball is hit to the outfield.<br />

B. Failure to touch the orange portion will result in the runner being called out.<br />

C. On tag up plays or overruns, the runner must touch the white bag.<br />

F. Defensive player must touch white portion to make the out.<br />

G. Obstruction by batter runner with defensive player could result in all runners returning to previous base<br />

<strong>and</strong> runs not scoring.<br />

18. Special Co-Rec <strong>Rules</strong>:<br />

A. Co-Rec teams can play with 12, 10, 9, 8, or (7only at start of game) players. Please note:<br />

12 players - 6 men <strong>and</strong> 6 women only<br />

10 players - 5 men <strong>and</strong> 5 women only<br />

9 players – 5 women <strong>and</strong> 4 men or 5 men <strong>and</strong> 4 women<br />

8 players - 4 men <strong>and</strong> 4 women only<br />

7 players – 4 men <strong>and</strong> 3 women or 4 women <strong>and</strong> 3 men.<br />

B. Batting order shall alternate sexes.<br />

C. Teams playing with 7 or 9 players shall take an out when players of the same sex bat back to back.<br />

D. Player substitution must be a man for a man <strong>and</strong> a woman for a woman.<br />

E. Any walk to a male batter, intentional or not, will result in a two base award. The next batter (a female)<br />

will bat. EXCEPTION: With two outs, the female batter has the option to walk or bat. With 0 or 1 out,<br />

the female batter must bat.<br />

F. For defensive positioning there must be an equal number of men <strong>and</strong> women on the playing field.<br />

Exception: When playing with 9 players.<br />

G. If the E.P. is utilized:<br />

1. A team must use one (1) male E.P. <strong>and</strong> one (1) female E. P. in order to maintain the alternating,<br />

batting order rule;<br />

2. If a male or female is injured <strong>and</strong> cannot be substituted for, the immediate male or female<br />

counterpart in the batting order must also be removed from the game in order to maintain the<br />

alternating batting order rule.<br />

H. No restriction on batting stance for men.<br />

I. Outfield Arch Rule: All four (4) outfielders must remain behind the 175' line until the ball is hit (applies to<br />

both female & male batters). Penalty: If an outfielder crosses the arch prior to the ball being hit <strong>and</strong> also<br />

fields the ball inside the arch, a delayed dead ball shall be signaled. The offense shall have the option<br />

of taking the result of the play or awarding the batter first base.<br />

19. Pre-Game Practice:<br />

A. All pre-game warm-ups must take place in the designated warm-up areas only. No infield or batting<br />

practice will be permitted on the infield before the game. Batting practice is permitted in the outfield<br />

grass only. This rule is necessary to preserve the infield for later games. Violators are subject to<br />

ejection from the park.<br />

B. "Fence pepper/flip batting into the fence is prohibited. Violators may be ejected from the park <strong>and</strong> may<br />

be liable for damage incurred.<br />

20. Insurance:<br />

<strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> <strong>Parks</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Recreation</strong> does not provide insurance coverage for players, coaches, or<br />

spectators. You are strongly advised to check your coverage with your personal carrier to insure you are<br />

covered for accidents/injury, including ambulance transportation.<br />

21. Customer Service:<br />

<strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> strives in providing staff (umpires, referees, supervisors, <strong>and</strong> scorekeepers) that are<br />

professional, knowledgeable, <strong>and</strong> courteous. These characteristics will guarantee our participants a<br />

positive experience. Please contact us immediately if any of our staff does not meet the st<strong>and</strong>ards of<br />

performance that you deserve. Our umpires/referees are employees <strong>and</strong> are not required to give out their<br />

name. We have a record of all assigned personnel <strong>and</strong> can match the field/gym <strong>and</strong> date with the staff in<br />

question. Your input is a necessary part of our evaluation process, <strong>and</strong> can effect the assignments of our<br />

umpire/referee <strong>and</strong> scorekeepers.<br />

<strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> <strong>Parks</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Recreation</strong> reserves the right to establish guidelines for any <strong>and</strong> all rules or infractions not<br />

covered in the A.S.A. or league rules <strong>and</strong> to refuse participation to an individual or team if they do not obey the rules <strong>and</strong><br />

regulations <strong>and</strong> keep within spirit of sportsmanship or the <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> player/team Code of Conduct.<br />

PROTEST PROCEDURES<br />

1. Protests will not be received or considered if they are based solely on a decision involving the accuracy of<br />

judgment on the part of an umpire. Examples of protests that will not be considered are:<br />

A. Whether a batted ball was fair or foul<br />

B. Whether a runner was safe or out<br />

C. Whether a pitched ball was a ball or a strike<br />

D. Whether a pitch was legal or illegal<br />

E. Whether a runner did or did not touch a base<br />

F. Whether a runner did or did not leave his base too soon on a caught fly ball<br />

G. Whether a fly ball was or was not caught legally<br />

H. Whether it was or was not an infield fly<br />

I. Whether there was or was not interference or obstruction<br />

J. Whether the field is or is not fit to continue or resume play<br />

K. Whether there is or is not sufficient light to continue play<br />

L. Any other matter involving only the accuracy of the umpire's judgment<br />

M. Whether a batted ball did or did not clear the fence in flight<br />

N. Whether a batted ball was or was not touched by a fielder before clearing the fence in flight<br />

O. Whether a player or live ball did or did not enter a dead ball area or touch some object or person in a<br />

dead ball area.<br />

2. Protests that shall be received <strong>and</strong> considered concern matters of the following types:<br />

A. Misinterpretation of a playing rule.<br />

B. Failure of an umpire to apply the correct rule to a given situation.<br />

C. Failure of an umpire to impose the correct penalty for a given violation.<br />

D. Questions regarding eligibility of a player<br />

3. All written protests must contain the following information:<br />

A. The date, time, <strong>and</strong> place of the game.<br />

B. The names of the umpires <strong>and</strong> scorers<br />

C. The rule <strong>and</strong> section of the official rules or local rules under which the protest is made<br />

D. The information, details <strong>and</strong> conditions pertinent to the decision to protest.<br />

E. All essential facts involved in the matter protested.<br />

4. In case of a dispute, the umpires are instructed to talk to managers only. All others will retire to their<br />

immediate playing position or dugout. Anyone violating this regulation shall be removed from the game. In<br />

case of a prolonged dispute in which no immediate decision can be reached, the umpire will decide how<br />

much time, if any, will be added to the game time limit.<br />

5. A protest of a game must be in writing <strong>and</strong> submitted to the Athletic Office, 6631 S. University Blvd., within<br />

24 hours following the game. A protest will be considered only if it deals with misinterpretation of a rule or<br />

the eligibility of a player. A $50 cash protest fee must accompany all protests. If the protest is valid, the<br />

$50 will be refunded. All protests must be documented in the official scorebook at the time of the incident to<br />

include what is being protested, time left in the game, score <strong>and</strong> signed by the official <strong>and</strong> team manager.<br />

6. The notification of intent to protest must be made (1) immediately before the next legal or illegal pitch or (2)<br />

before the umpires leave the field of play at the conclusion of the game, if the play in question is the last<br />

play of the game. (Exception: Player eligibility, see “C” below)<br />

A. The manager, acting manager, or captain of the protesting team shall immediately notify the plate<br />

umpire that the game is being played under protest. The plate umpire shall in turn notify the opposing<br />

manager <strong>and</strong> official scorekeeper.<br />

B. To aid in the correct determination of the issue, all interested parties shall take notice of the information,<br />

details <strong>and</strong> conditions surrounding the decision protest.<br />

C. Protests concerning player eligibility must be made to the umpire. Teams must protest player eligibility<br />

before the player(s) completes their first at bat. Player in question must present a legally accepted<br />

picture ID immediately. If no ID can be provided, player is ineligible to continue in that game. If a valid<br />

ID is not presented to the Athletic Office within 24 hours or by Monday for Friday or weekend games,<br />

the game is forfeited. Player eligibility protest must be accompanied by $50.00 per player protested.<br />

D. Scores must be challenged <strong>and</strong> corrected prior to the start of the next half inning or it's too late <strong>and</strong> the<br />

book shall st<strong>and</strong> as is.<br />

7. The protest <strong>and</strong> grievance committee, which consists of the league directors, will determine action<br />

regarding protests, disciplinary action against teams, players, fans <strong>and</strong> players eligibility. No action can or<br />

will be taken involving personal judgment calls of the umpire.<br />

CODE OF CONDUCT<br />

The following “Participant Code of Conduct” has been adopted for the <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> <strong>Parks</strong> &<br />

<strong>Recreation</strong> Programs <strong>and</strong> Facilities. These rules of conduct will be strictly enforced during the playing<br />

season/activity/contest. It is the Coach/Managers Responsibility to ensure all players know <strong>and</strong> adhere to<br />

the rules.<br />

Appropriate social behavior is requested for all programs, facility <strong>and</strong> outdoor use. Individuals are encouraged<br />

to act in a way that will not hurt another person physically, mentally, or emotionally. A participant may be asked<br />

to withdraw from a class or program, or to leave a facility if behavior does not comply with program <strong>and</strong> or<br />

facility st<strong>and</strong>ards.<br />

DEFINITIONS:<br />

Coach / Manager- A person designated as team spokesperson. One who is either a player or non-player.<br />

Players / Participant- A person, who actively participates in the game, sits on the bench or who is on the roster.<br />

Contest or Playing Area - That area, which is designated by the League Director, may include spectator area.<br />

Can include parking lots <strong>and</strong> open space.<br />

Spectator- A person who comes out to watch the games for entertainment with no physical involvement.<br />

Official - Person or persons on the field who administer the official rules.<br />

Participation- Any involvement in <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> activities such as being a spectator, officiating, playing,<br />

coaching or attending non-sporting events. Anyone present at the time of an incident.<br />

League Director - Part time or full time employee of <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong>.<br />

Sportsmanship Policy<br />

Each team or individual is responsible for the actions of its members <strong>and</strong> spectators during competition <strong>and</strong> all<br />

other times while on <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> District property. Unsportsmanlike conduct, including intimidation <strong>and</strong><br />

infliction or threat of bodily harm, will not be tolerated <strong>and</strong> will result in ejection from competition <strong>and</strong>/or<br />

facilities. This sportsmanship code will be extended to drop in participants of a sporting activity. Additional<br />

sanctions may be added at the discretion of the District’s staff.<br />

No contest is important enough to warrant physical or verbal abuse of officials, participants or spectators.<br />

Please remember that these contests are not professional sporting events. Please make the utmost effort to win<br />

with class, lose with dignity, <strong>and</strong> treat the contest officials with respect.<br />

The following behavior is unacceptable for any players, participants, coaches or spectators:<br />

Use of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs or tobacco while in a <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> facility or at a <strong>South</strong><br />

<strong>Suburban</strong> sponsored event except in authorized areas.<br />

Pushing, striking, threatening (verbally or physically) another player<br />

Pushing, striking, <strong>and</strong> threatening (verbally or physically) an official/umpire or <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> staff<br />

member.<br />

Refusal to abide by officials’ decisions, including dissent <strong>and</strong> verbal abuse directed toward officials.<br />

Failure to follow <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> <strong>and</strong>/or school district regulations.<br />

Any inappropriate sexual conduct or lewd behavior on the premises or during an event.<br />

CODE:<br />

1. NO PLAYER/COACH SHALL; consume alcoholic beverages without a permit while on <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong><br />

property.<br />

Minimum Penalty: Ejection from the playing area.<br />

Maximum Penalty: Citation issued by law enforcement.<br />

2. NO PLAYER/COACH SHALL; have three (3) or more team members (players or coaches) ejected from the<br />

game.<br />

Minimum Penalty: Shall be penalized with a forfeit.<br />

Maximum Penalty: Suspended from the league for one year. Forfeiture of fees/ no refunds given.<br />

3. NO PLAYER/COACH SHALL; refuse to abide by officials’ decisions. Officials are required to immediately<br />

suspend the player from further play <strong>and</strong> report such player to the League Director.<br />

Minimum Penalty: Ejected from that game. Game may be declared a forfeit.<br />

Maximum Penalty: Suspension from the league for two games.<br />

4. NO PLAYER/COACH SHALL; be involved in a physical altercation with another player, coach, or<br />

spectator.<br />

Minimum Penalty: Ejection from that game, receive at least a two game suspension (possible suspension for<br />

remainder of the year or longer) <strong>and</strong> be placed on probation.<br />

Maximum Penalty: Placed on suspension for life <strong>and</strong>/or assault charges filed. Forfeiture of fees/no refunds<br />

given.<br />

5. NO PLAYER/COACH SHALL; at anytime lay a h<strong>and</strong> upon, push, shove, strike, threaten to strike, verbally<br />

threaten an official/umpire or staff member. Officials are required to immediately suspend the player from<br />

further play <strong>and</strong> report such player to the League Director.<br />

Minimum Penalty: Suspension from one (1) league game <strong>and</strong> placed on probation for the remainder of the<br />

season.<br />

Maximum Penalty: Placed on suspension for life <strong>and</strong>/or assault charges filed. Forfeiture of fees/no refunds<br />

given.<br />

6. NO PLAYER/COACH; who is ejected from a game may remain in the facility or field. He or she must leave<br />

playing area within two (2) minutes.<br />

Minimum Penalty: They must leave facility (official’s judgment).<br />

Maximum Penalty: Failure to leave immediately can result in a forfeit. If a forfeit is declared the offending<br />

player is suspended for two games <strong>and</strong> depending on the severity of the offending players of the offending<br />

players actions may result in a suspension for life from <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> programs.<br />

7. Teams are responsible for their players <strong>and</strong> spectators conduct before, during, <strong>and</strong> after the game. All<br />

spectators, as well as participants must conform to all school district regulations <strong>and</strong> <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> Park <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>Recreation</strong> District regulations. Improper behavior will not be tolerated in <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> programs.<br />

Minimum Penalty: Verbal warning to the coach, technical fouls/penalties assessed.<br />

Maximum Penalty: Forfeit of the game, possible arrest <strong>and</strong> prosecution, forfeiture of remaining games, <strong>and</strong> no<br />

refund of fees.<br />

ENFORCEMENTS:<br />

1. All suspensions carry an automatic probation period. Once a player(s), coach, <strong>and</strong>/or team have been<br />

placed on probation, their conduct will be evaluated throughout the remainder of the season. Further<br />

conduct violations will result in a minimum suspension extending through the remainder of the season,<br />

as well as forfeiting all fees paid to date.<br />

2. Warning methods: verbal <strong>and</strong> written notices<br />

3. Suspended coach or player: Suspension from the playing area will result in the League Director<br />

investigating the suspension.<br />

4. If a suspended coach, player or spectator does not leave the contest area, the authorities will be called.<br />

5. The official, supervisor, league director, or other <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> staff shall be responsible for<br />

suspending the offending parties from the playing area.<br />

6. The League Director has “elastic power” in determining suspensions, penalties, or rule interpretations.<br />

Officials will have the authority to penalize for unsportsmanlike behavior. This is a judgment call by<br />

the official <strong>and</strong> cannot be protested. There will be no tolerance for those that deviate from the league<br />

code of conduct.<br />

7. Ejected or suspended, participant(s) in question may not come to contests as a spectator during their<br />

suspension or ejection period. This includes parking lots.<br />

8. Correct name <strong>and</strong> phone number of ejected individual(s) must be given to proper authorities before<br />

leaving facility.<br />

DUE PROCESS:<br />

All ejections are subject to review by the League Director or his/her designee.<br />

1. All ejections will be considered final.<br />

2. A Suspension Review Board will be set up to hear any review of a suspension as deemed necessary for<br />

due process. The Suspension Review Board will consist of the following:<br />

a. <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> Sport Coordinator (League Director)<br />

b. <strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> Department Supervisor<br />

3. Notice of suspension must be made immediately by the official or authorized staff issuing an ejection.<br />

In the event of an extended suspension, the suspended person will be notified in writing of any<br />

disciplinary action taken.<br />

4. A suspended player has three (3) business days from the receipt of the disciplinary notice to make an<br />

appeal in writing. Appeal must be submitted in writing to the League Director who in turn has an<br />

obligation to submit to the Department Supervisor for review.<br />
