Adding Mixed Numbers<br />
When mixed numbers are added, answers need to be renamed and put in the<br />
simplest form.<br />
For example:<br />
1. First add all the whole numbers. 5 + 8 + 1 = 14<br />
2. Next add all the numerators.<br />
3. Since is more than 1 you must convert to a mixed number.<br />
4. 18 ÷12 = 1 with 6 remainder 1 and<br />
5. Add the whole numbers together. 14 + 1 = 15<br />
6. Answer is 15 and 6/12. You must now simplify.<br />
7.<br />
8. The answer is 15 ½.<br />
