For example: Find the G.C.F. of 18 and 24.<br />

1. List all the factors of each.<br />

a. What two numbers multiplied together make 18<br />

b. Start with 1. Ask 1 times what number makes 18 Then go to 2.<br />

Ask 2 times what number makes 18 Then 3, and so on.<br />

c. 18 = 1 x 18, 2 x 9, 3 x 6<br />

d. What two numbers multiplied together make 24<br />

e. 24 = 1 x 24, 2 x 12, 3 x 8, 4 x 6<br />

2. List the factors in order. 18 = 1,2,3,6,9,18 24 = 1,2,3,4,6,8,12,24<br />

3. Find the common factors of the two numbers. 1,2,3,6<br />

4. The greatest (or biggest) of these common numbers is 6.<br />

Multiples<br />

A multiple of a number is the product or answer of that number multiplied by<br />

any whole number. To find multiples of any number, just multiply that<br />

number by 1,2,3,4, and on.<br />

For example: Find the multiples of 6.<br />

1. Multiply 6 by 1,2,3,4, and on.<br />

6x1=6 6x2=12<br />

6x3=18 6x4=24<br />

6x5=30 6 x 6 = 36<br />

2. The multiples of 6 are: 6,12,18,24,30<br />
