Regional Conference and
Awards
Thanks to Katie Lawton who organised another
very successful Conference on September 11 th .
Following the Conference, during the evening, at
Redworth Hall, Darlington, it was the Annual
Awards Dinner.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to nominate
the people from their Clubs who really deserved to
be recognised for their achievements, hard work
and commitment to gymnastics in the North.

More Awards
Congratulations to Denis Robinson – who was
awarded The Honorary title of Freeman of Thornaby-
On-Tees. This is the highest honour that can be
bestowed on a resident of Thornaby. Denis was
presented with the award by the Mayor of Thornaby, Mr
Ian Delgrano. These are the first such awards to be
presented for over 40 years; there can only be Four
Freeman in at any one time, Denis was given the award
of a certificate and regalia for his twenty five years
voluntary service to the community of Thornaby mainly
for his work with young people by setting up from
scratch, without any funding, and running a gymnastic
club and facility for all to enjoy – Robert Atkinson
Gymnastic Club.

BG Award winner Elsie Lee – who was given a BG
Award of Merit at a ceremony in Worcester recently.
This was to recognise over 30 years of service to
gymnastics and Saltburn Gymnastic Club
BG Award of Merit winner Marie McCloud
for all her work at Redcar Gym Club
And BG Award of Merit recipients
Nicola Preston and Rachel Wright
for all their work at South Durham Gym Club.
Congratulations to Berwick Gymnastic Club
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this September. The
Club run classes in both Berwick and Alnwick In
addition to our head coach Debbie Couch delivers after
school and school holiday sessions. Berwick Gym Club
is GymMark accredited and the whole Club contributes
a great deal to the local community.

City of Newcastle Gymnastic Club has some
brilliant news to share!
� On Saturday 17 th July CNGA held a charity
fundraising gym sleep over raising £743.00. The Carl
Chapman Memorial Trust and Leukaemia Research are
the 2 charities supported by this event. Over 70 boys
and girls enjoyed free play, circuit races, a game of
rounders out side and DVDs to raise this money. CRB
checked parents and coaches supervised and went
without a lot of sleep to create a fun evening for all.
� Commonwealth Games 2010 , Delhi, India
Robert Hunter, Mukunda Measuria and Matthew
Hennessey all from the City of Newcastle Gymnastics
have all been selected to compete at the 2010
Commonwealth Games in India, after a series of trials.
Mukunda will be representing the Isle of Man, whilst
both Robert and Matthew will be representing Wales.
Coach Paul Edwards will also be in Delhi judging on
behalf of Wales.
� Boys Club NDP 2010
At these years Club NDP Danny Jones took a bronze
medal in the Level 2 age group, Daniel Nagy took Silver
in the level 3 age group and Jamie Carpenter took Gold
medal in the Level 6 age group. These boys, except for
Jamie, were joined by Taylor Woodland, Harry Ross
and Joseph Cuthbert at a GB training Camp for
finishing in the top 10 in their respective age groups
� Adams Shield( British Team
Championships) 2010
Robert Hunter, Mukunda Measuria, Matthew
Hennessey and Kyle Barnes all represented City of
Newcastle in this year’s prestigious Adams Shield
(Senior Men’s British team competition). This was their
first time in this competition and finished a very
respectable 7th position in a very good field.
� Leverkusen Cup
16 year old Lara Wilson from City of Newcastle
Gymnastics Academy has been selected to represent
England in the Leverkusen Cup in Germany over the
weekend 8/9/10th October. Her selection was due to
her excellent results in the British Team
Championships. Lara is a very hard working gymnast
and we would like wish her the best of luck in the
forthcoming international
City of Newcastle Gymnasts!
� 2011 Gymnaestrada
City of Newcastle are delighted to announce that they
will participate in the 2011 Gymnaestrada event to be
hosted in Lausanne, Switzerland. We aim to take a
squad of about 25 TeamGym gymnasts to represent
Great Britain. TeamGym at City of Newcastle has been
running for 14 years. While we have had many
successes nationally, this will be our first visit to such
an exciting International event. Gymnaestrada is the
official world event of the International Gymnastics
Federation (FIG) for all Gymnastic disciplines. During
the seven days of the festival, gymnasts of all ages and
backgrounds, genders and abilities, meet to share their
passion and talent in all domains of Gymnastics. This
non competitive event takes place every four years in
the country of one of the affiliated federations of the IGF
and attracts over 20,000 participants from all over the
world. The aim of CNGA Teamgym coaches and
parents is to raise approximately £30,000 to cover
participation fees, travel arrangements, costumes and
accommodation costs.
South Durham Gymnastic Club Congratulations to
Jade and Beth!
Jade Armstrong has been selected for the Great Britain
National Start Squad for 2010/2011 after a successful
competition earlier in the year at Gloucester, in the
British Espoir Championships. This will be Jade’s
second consecutive year on squad.
Beth Donaldson has also been selected to join the
English Squad for 2010/2011 after another great result
at the English Championships earlier in the year at
Gloucester.

More Club News
Congratulations Gymworld!
Caroline Jennison, Laura Dukes and Cailtlin Walker
were part of a 14 strong squad representing England at
the Special Olympics Women’s Artistic Championships
in Luxembourg recently. Competing against 17 nations,
the girls came home with 9 medals!
Caroline won Gold on ABars, Silver on Beam, Bronze
on Vault and Bronze All Around.
Laura won ABar Gold, and All Around Bronze.
Cailtlin, at only 12 years of age and in her first major
championship won Gold on Beam, Silver on ABars and
Bronze on Floor.
Not to be out done, by the girls, Joel Fitzpatrick
competed in Athens as part of the
GB Special Olympics Squad!
Well Done to everyone concerned.
Well done Kendale GC!
The Club participated in Eurogym this July over in
Odense, Denmark and report that is was a fabulous
experience
Robert Atkinson Gymnastic Club did a wonderful
performance at the annual Thornaby Show. As well as
tumbling, the gymnasts did Pairs and Group routines
then finished off with our performance of Annie. At the
end the crowd gave the gymnasts and coaches a
tremendous show of appreciation. Many thanks to all
the Gymnasts, Parents, Helpers and Coaches who
made the event possible; also a big thank you to the
Thornaby Town Council for inviting the Club to the
event.

competition dates for 2011, in plenty of
time – no later than December 1st.
GENERAL GYMNASTICS TC
Just a reminder that entries close for the Partner
Challenge on 24th September. Please ensure that
entries on the correct form, with the cheque payable to
NE General Gymnastics are received by this date.
Please do not send in late or incorrect entries or they
will be returned. The rules, sections and age groups are
in the current General Handbook; copies can be
downloaded from the website.
Please remember that following requests from coaches
after last years event the rule for Groups was amended
to read
‘Groups may now consist of a minimum of 4 and
maximum of 6 gymnasts. On vault, the four highest
scores will be averaged to give the team score for
vault.’
Movement in Pairs requirement: On the Floor if 5
gymnasts are competing then the Group should
perform an equivalent matching pair and trio
movement. For example the pair shows a held
handstand and the trio show a held handstand.
