Letter from the D irector

I have to say that I agree with Thomas Jefferson on the
value of recreation and the vital role it plays in making a
healthy difference in people’s lives.
We are working very hard at trying to maintain the quality
parks and recreation programs in such a challenging economic
time. The Parks and Recreation department is an essential
service and a solution too many peoples stress and health
issues in what may be for many, difficult times.
Some of our goals this coming year are to gain the support
for funding of a much needed community center and a skate
park for the athletes who have been asking for and needing
one for over a decade. We are also working to improve the
trail systems and to create a dog park.
With a new master plan for Dickinson Park our goal is to
keep the familiar feel of the park while updating and
reestablishing this park to be a family gathering place with
summer concerts, an updated playground, a much needed water
facility and newly constructed tennis and basketball courts.
We will also be working hard to improve the already
wonderful complex at Treadwell Park by updating the pool
building, bathrooms, parking, tennis, basketball courts and
landscaping.
We hope you will all be spending your morning, afternoon and
evenings with us and realize the endless benefits and
services that your Parks and Recreation Department can
provide for you.
