3.7 Research Propositions<br />

After discussing some information of <strong>West</strong> <strong>Rail</strong> and factors that affect<br />

choice of transportation mode, several hypotheses is tested to assess the effects of<br />

these factors.<br />

1: People do not travel by <strong>West</strong> <strong>Rail</strong> mainly because of the need for interchanging<br />

with other public transport to get to the destination.<br />

2: Except directly lowering the fare, improving its feeder service is the most effective<br />

way to attract passengers to take <strong>West</strong> <strong>Rail</strong>.<br />

3: People travel by <strong>West</strong> <strong>Rail</strong> mainly because of the speed and discount.<br />

4: White-collar, young highly educated and high household income people are more<br />

willing to travel by <strong>West</strong> <strong>Rail</strong>.<br />

5: The Government’s “railway first” policy shifts passengers from bus to <strong>West</strong> <strong>Rail</strong>.<br />
