2009 in review Employer evaluation Practically 100% of UCSI University Co-Op students made their employers satisfied during the internship, with more than half (63%) rated as ‘excellent’. In turn, 92% of employers expressed interest in rehiring the same students, which proves the calibre and quality of UCSI University students and the benefits of the Co-Op programme. They were self-driven and receptive to the IT infrastructure at our place. It appears to me that UCSI University is on the right path of developing the right curricula for its students. Techsource Systems Chia Soon Yoong Application Engineer We took a student from UCSI University for a four-month internship. Our intern proved her strength in knowledge by assisting our company in providing the required technical support to many of our customers. Connie Tan CRM Manager Overall, I think the Co- Op programme is good and provides students the opportunity to be familiar with the ‘real’ work environment. I was privileged to work with two different groups of students in the final and first year. The finalyear students were mature in handling their assigned tasks and were able to contribute more to their work. They had the initiative to enquire when in doubt. Perhaps their previous attachments with other companies helped them. PricewaterhouseCoopers Malaysia Charlize Foong Recruiter We would like to continue our collaboration with the UCSI University Co-Op programme, which we find beneficial for both students and employers. It provides the opportunity for students to experience working life and gain hands-on experience while at the same time, employers are able to assess if these interns are a good fit for the firm prior to recruiting them. She was able to communicate well with co-workers and was punctual, well-groomed and disciplined. The Co-Op helps pave the way for students to build and strengthen their confidence. Digi Telecommunication R Sivanesan Facility Engineer Our intern was responsible for gathering details and data on the BTS Mfes trials and mentoring the Deep Green Challenge Team (UKTM). It was mutually beneficial as we had an opportunity to gain insights from a younger mindset while the student gained some working skills and experience. STATS ChipPac Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. Selvaraja Staff Engineer The trainee demonstrated great initiative in handling problems such as collecting data, and sharing and analysing ideas and solutions with superiors. He has the technical capabilities of an engineer and is a quick learner. He has the right attitude to be a capable engineer. Playground Enrichment Programme Sdn. Bhd. Derek Ong Principal Our intern had a love for the profession and was sincerely interested and concerned for the students. She was willing to come up with creative lessons that proved to be interesting and educationally effective. She was always willing to adjust any part of her lessons for further improvements. Overall, we were satisfied with her performance and could see that she had put in a lot of effort in her duties during her internship. Pixarus Communications Choy Su-Ling Managing Consultant We were very pleased to welcome three UCSI University students into the world of public relations and journalism. During their internship, the students made real efforts to improve their performance, having been challenged time and again to outdo themselves. Ultimately, all these challenges made them stronger and smarter individuals who are mentally, emotionally, and academically prepared for the real working world when they graduate.
