SECTION L6<br />
TRIO<br />
A. Trio singing is a competition held for girls in all classifications.<br />
1. The singing parts for the members of the trio are:<br />
(a) first soprano<br />
(b) second soprano<br />
(c) alto<br />
2. Two selections shall be sung from memory.<br />
(a) Both selections shall be appropriate for a small group of singers.<br />
(b) One selection must be one of the following:<br />
(1) chorale<br />
(2) madrigal<br />
(3) art song<br />
(4) folk song<br />
3. The selections may be sung with or without accompaniment.<br />
(a) Live piano accompaniment is the only form allowed (no tapes allowed).<br />
(b) Trios must bring their own accompanist if one is to be used.<br />
4. Each Trio shall be allotted eight (8) minutes to perform their selections. If the time limit is exceeded, the Trio<br />
will be penalized two (2) points for every 15 second period or portion thereof that they are overtime.<br />
5. Choreography will not be considered in the judging of this event.<br />
6. A director/coach is expressly prohibited from “conducting” during any musical contest at the Region or State<br />
levels.<br />
7. Audiences will be allowed in the competition room of this event.<br />
8. A substitution will not be allowed in the Trio advancing to the State Meet after Region competition.<br />
B. Contestants shall draw for order of performance upon reporting to the site of the competition at the scheduled time.<br />
1. Contestants who are not present at the time of the drawing, will have their position drawn for them.<br />
2. Contestants who are not present at the time designated for their presentation will be disqualified.<br />
3. Contestants who have conflicts with other Literary events should consult with the GHSA prior to the contest,<br />
and may have early or late presentation positions designated for them.<br />
4. At the time of check-in at the competition site, a copy of the music (can be computer generated) will be presented<br />
for viewing by the judges. Each school is responsible for meeting copyright laws.<br />
C. Judging Procedures:<br />
1. Two (two) judges will be used for the Trio competition.<br />
(a) Judges shall not confer with one another during the competition, but they may sit near one another to view<br />
the copy of the music.<br />
(b) Tabulation of score sheets shall be handled independently.<br />
2. Judges shall follow scoring directions provided by the GHSA Office.<br />
3. Judging criteria are as follows:<br />
(a) Accuracy: Notes, Time, Value, Pitch 20%<br />
(b) Tone: Quality, Quantity, Naturalness, Balance, Blend, Freedom 20%<br />
(c) Diction: Clarity, Naturalness, Purity of Vowels and Consonants 10%<br />
(d) Rhythm: Steadiness, Freedom, Tempo 10%<br />
(e) Phrasing: Melodic Line, Attack, Release, Content 10%<br />
(f) Interpretation: Understanding of Composition,<br />
Expression Marks, Contrast, General Effect 20%<br />
(g) Presentation: Stage Presence and Personality, Posture, Poise 10%
