B. The date for the State One Act plays is Saturday, November 5, 2011.<br />

The sites for State One-Act Plays are:<br />

Class AAAAA - Perry High School, Perry<br />

Class AAAA - Veterans High School, Kathleen<br />

Class AAA - Northside High School, Warner Robins<br />

Class AA - Warner Robins High School, Warner Robins<br />

Class A - Houston <strong>County</strong> High School, Warner Robins<br />

C. The facilities that will be used for One-Act Play competitions will not be available for practice by any school in the<br />

State competition. “Walk-throughs” will not be allowed at the State competition.<br />

D. <strong>Schools</strong> will be responsible for making their own arrangements for housing and meals.<br />

E. The schedule for each classification shall be:<br />

10:00 - 10:55 am - Region 2<br />

11:00 - 11:55 am - Region 3<br />

12:00 - 12:55 pm - Region 4<br />

1:00 - 1:55 pm - Region 5<br />

2:00 - 3:00 pm - RECESS<br />

3:00 - 3:55 pm - Region 6<br />

4:00 - 4:55 pm - Region 7<br />

5:00 - 5:55 pm - Region 8<br />

6:00 - 6:55 pm - Region 1<br />

7:00 - 7:20 pm - Judges’ Deliberation<br />

7:30 pm - Awards Presentation<br />

F. Trophies and individual medals will be awarded to the State Champion and Runner-up schools, and medals will<br />

be awarded to the Outstanding Actor and Outstanding Actress.<br />

G. Three judges will be selected for each classification in the Region and State competitions.<br />

1. One judge may be from college ranks.<br />

2. The remaining two judges may be high school or former high school directors or from the professional theater<br />

level. NOTE: High school directors should not judge competitions of their classification.<br />

3. A list of possible judges is available from the GHSA Office. NOTE: In the event that it is impossible to secure<br />

the right number or the precise mix of judges as noted above, provisions should be made to secure quality judges<br />

that may not precisely meet the state criteria.<br />

4. On the day of the contest, judges shall avoid contact with directors or cast members until after the winners are<br />

announced.<br />

5. Judges shall hold all score sheets until after all presentations have been completed.<br />

SECTION L1<br />

DRAMATIC INTERPRETATION<br />

A. Separate contests will be held for boys and girls in Dramatic Interpretation.<br />

B. This is a competition involving the communication of prose, poetry, and/or dramatic literature.<br />

1. The selection may be either serious or humorous, but should be of good literary value and appropriate to the<br />

contest.<br />

2. The contestants are judged on how well they communicate the author's meaning to the audience.<br />

(a) The contestant is expected to give the audience a brief introductory statement about the selection(s).<br />

(b) The material must be memorized and delivered without the use of a manuscript.<br />

(c) Prompting shall lead to disqualification.<br />

(d) No costumes, props, music, or sound effects may be used in the presentation. Area of presentation should<br />

be completely vacant.<br />

NOTE: Definition of Properties from The Stage and The School, 8th Edition, 1999, page 600: All the stage<br />

furnishings, including furniture and those things brought onstage by the actors; also called props.<br />

(e) Movement of the speaker is not limited.<br />

C. Each contestant is allotted ten (10) minutes for the presentation.<br />

1. The time allotment includes the introduction to the presentation.<br />

2. A penalty of two (2) points will be imposed for each fifteen (15) second period or portions thereof that the<br />

contestant is over the time limit.
