The first three months of the' New
Year 2013 were full of activities and
the inherent energy of the Institute
manifested itself in different ways.
The year began with usual
celebrations and on 26th January,
the Director hoisted the National
Flag and delivered an inspiring
address. i t .
International/National Trainings
An International training course on
Scientific Basis of TB Control was
held from 4 to 15 March in the
Institute. It was co- sponsored by
the Union. Renowned Public Health
Specialist Professor Hans L. Rieder
was the trainer in this course.
22 participants respectively from
several states of the country

Republic Day 2013
Nati'onal PMDT (Programmatic
management of Drug Resistant TB)
in RNTCPwere held in February as
well as March 2013, in which 27 and

Armenia from 6 March 2013 to 20
March 2013 for a Surgical Mission
sponsored by the NGO MSF-France
to conduct surgery on patients
suffering from MDR/XDR TB or
other complications and also for
capacity building and training of
surgeons. He was accompanied by
Operation Theater Nurse, Ms. Girija
Kumari.

World TB Day Celebrations
On the occasion of World TB Day,
several activities were conducted by
the Institute on 25 March (24
March, being a Sunday). Health
Education activities and skits for the
same were organized in the OPD
complex. Dr. R.C. Jain Memorial
Oration lecture was delivered by Dr.
Amit Banerjee, Vice- Chancellor,
West Bengal University of Health
Sciences. He spoke about the
paucity of Thoracic Surgery training
and teaching in the country and how
to address this issue. The Director
General of Health Services,
Dr. Jagdish Prasad, who was the
Chief Guest for this function, also
released TB India report 2013. The
DG also released a publication of
research done in LRS Institute on
this occasion.

The Institute Foundation Day on 16
March was celebrated

TB & Respiratory Diseases. The
faculty has contributed significantly
to the development of national
guidelines in India for management
