ACE looking for airmen to design table banner


ACE is looking for artistic airmen to design our new table banner that will be displayed at any fundraising<br />

events, membership drives, briefings or other events that ACE holds. Once the banner is complete, the<br />

artist will be able to sign it with his or her own “John Hancock.”<br />

ACE CLEP-a-thon in need of students<br />

ACE CLEP-a-thon needs students! If you are pursuing your degree and would like to take refresher<br />

courses for English, math, speech, humanities or management CLEP/DANTES tests, please contact<br />

Service station closure<br />

The <strong>Kadena</strong> Main Service Station, building 3155, will be closed May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. due<br />

to a scheduled power outage.<br />

Please plan accordingly as no fuel can be issued during this time. If you have any questions, contact<br />

Tech. Sgt. Dunham at 634-8613.<br />

Mediatti changes<br />

Mediatti is upgrading television service by adding several new channels including the Hallmark channel,<br />

Food network, Cooking network, Oprah network, Fox movies, Fox Business, and others to the Tier 2 lineup<br />

at no additional charge to customers. Users will have to re-scan the channels on their cable box.<br />

The television service will also be adding new equipment to improve the way they broadcast their video<br />

channels. Several channels have already been converted, and the rest will be converted over the next 10<br />

days.<br />

Tiered Internet services are also now available. Customers can call Mediatti, visit their office, or fill out the<br />

service request form on their website (bottom left of their main page.) The following are their monthly<br />

prices:<br />

Thrift Store Buck program<br />

The <strong>Kadena</strong> Thrift Store offers assistance for junior enlisted members (E-1 through E-4) of any branch of<br />

service.<br />

To apply, bring a copy of your current leave and earnings statement, or LES, and fill out the KTS’s<br />

contract. In return, you will receive a voucher for $40 if you don't have children, or $80 if you do, to use at<br />

the Thrift Store. The best part is you get a new voucher every month.<br />

Free karate classes<br />

Free Okinawa Matsubayashi-Ryu karate classes are available on Tuesdays for anyone 13 years of age<br />

and older at the Risner Fitness Center from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Participants will learn traditional karate waza<br />

and kata, and also how to react in real combat situations.<br />

Squadron Officer School changes<br />

The Distance Learning Program (Course 20) will close to new enrollees before the launch of a revised<br />

Squadron Officer School (SOS) DL course anticipated July 5. No one will be enrolled into Course 20 later<br />

than June 30.<br />

Family Child Care Office and Resource Center closure<br />

The Family Child Care Office and Resource Center will be closed May 23 due to a power outage.<br />

SARC fundraiser for Tokyo Rape Crisis Center postponed<br />

The Chibana Flea Market sale has been postponed to Sunday, June 3, to allow the Victims Advocates for<br />

the SARC office to collect more donations. The drop off point is still the SARC's office.<br />

Post office closure<br />

The post office and official mail center will be closed on Monday May 28 in observance of Memorial Day.<br />

<strong>Air</strong>man and Family Readiness Center limited services<br />

The <strong>Air</strong>man & Family Readiness Center will have limited services on May 29-31. We will still be available<br />

to assist customers with <strong>Air</strong> Force Aid Society (AFAS) services or PCS'ing customers who need Loan<br />

Locker items.<br />

Mandatory Contracting Officer's Rep Training<br />

All Contracting Officer's Representatives for 18 CONS are required to attend ONE of three Refresher<br />

training sessions held at the Schilling Community Center Ballroom, 5, 14, or 18 June from 0800 - 1200.<br />

Program changes and use of the CORT Tool will be discussed. You can register for training at:<br />

The 18th Force Support Squadron presents a Dueling Pianos Show at the Rocker NCO Club May 27<br />

May 28<br />

2012 Memorial Day Ceremony<br />

The 2012 Memorial Day Ceremony is scheduled for May 28 at 7 a.m. at the 18th Wing Headquarters flag<br />

pole. Uniform of the day is short sleeve, service uniform. Volunteers are also needed to help with setup<br />

and tear down, as well as to be ushers and greeters. We are also looking for talented singers to perform<br />

the national anthems.

June 1<br />

ACE bonfire<br />

June 1 is the new date for <strong>Air</strong>men Committed to Excellence’s highly requested bonfire at Torii Beach.<br />

Event will start at 6 p.m. and is entirely free. Free food, free non-alcoholic drinks, music and s’mores will<br />

be provided. All E-4s and below are invited, regardless of service branch.<br />

Driver’s Education Class Registration Briefing<br />

Driver's Education Class Registration: Registration for summer (July-Sept 2012) first time driver's<br />

education classes will begin on Friday, June 1. Registration will be available online beginning June 1 at<br />

10 a.m. Classes are open to all SOFA sponsored dependents ages 16 years of age and older.<br />

Students must be 16 years of age on or by the first day of class. Cost for the class is $275.<br />

June 2<br />

Family Fun Day at Chapel 3<br />

Family Fun Day is scheduled for June 2 from 9-11:30 a.m. at Chapel 3. Dr. Wicks, author of Bounce:<br />

Living the Resilient Life will be speaking. An inspirational children’s program will be held for kids ages 2<br />

years old – 6 th grade with games and activities based on biblical principles using bounce castles, dunk<br />

tanks, camouflage paint, and playgrounds.<br />

T<strong>here</strong> will be a burger burn from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and activities such as the police dog training<br />

show, bounce castles, dunk tank, fire trucks, and tactical vehicles will continue until 12:30 p.m. Drop off<br />

for children will be at Chapel 3.<br />

June 3<br />

Pacific Muscle Classic<br />

The Pacific Muscle Classic is now accepting entries for the sixth annual bodybuilding, figure, and fitness<br />

competition June 3 at the Keystone Theater. The 18th Force Support Squadron will once again showcase<br />

male and female body builders in addition to fitness and figure athletes. Applications are now available at<br />

the Schilling Community Center for anyone interested in competing in the Classic.<br />

Pre-competition posing and judging will be at 10 a.m. The evening’s highlight will include guest posing by<br />

Philip “Rico” Ricardo Jr., a 14-time natural professional body building champion, and Okinawa local<br />

resident Zoa Linsey, one of the top ten female bodybuilders in the world.<br />

Categories will include male and female bodybuilding as well as fitness and figure. Entry fee is $40.<br />

Doors open at 5 p.m., and the show starts at 6 p.m. The event is free and tickets can be picked up at the<br />

Schilling Community Center.<br />

Wingman Day<br />

Wingman Day is scheduled for June 4 to raise awareness of Wingmanship and teambuilding. Wingman<br />

Day activities will emphasize awareness, accountability, team-building, and communication through<br />

interactive discussion.<br />

The following workshops will be available throughout the day at the Keystone Theater:<br />

A. Dr. Wicks (Resilience Expert) 3 sessions (50 min’s)<br />

a. 0800 – 0900 (Incorporate silence, solitude, and mindfulness into daily life)<br />

b. 1030 – 1130 (Develop your own self-care protocol and personal renewal<br />

program)<br />

c. 1530 – 1630 (Recognize the insidious nature of denial and avoidance as<br />

responses to stress)<br />

The <strong>Kadena</strong> Aero Club is holding a closed bid auction for a 1981 Cessna 172-RG at building 736 June 6-<br />

9. Viewing of the aircraft will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and bids will be<br />

Post 9/11 GI Bill Briefing<br />

T<strong>here</strong> will be a Post 9/11 GI Bill Briefing in the Schilling Center Ballroom on June 8 from 2-4:30 p.m. This<br />

briefing is open to active duty service members and their dependents. Items discussed will include:<br />

benefits, eligibility, transferability, and more. No registration is necessary to attend. We look forward to<br />

providing you with all the information you need on this important education benefit.<br />

AFSA Chapter 1553 Flag Day Ceremony<br />

AFSA Chapter 1553 will be hosting a Flag Day Ceremony at 4 p.m. June 14 at Building 10 flag pole. Any<br />

flags that need to be burned can be dropped off prior to the event at the 18th Wing protocol office,<br />

building 10 or the Boys/Girl Scouts building 125.<br />

All flags (nylon, cotton, etc.) are permitted and will be burned. AFSA will accept flags up to the start of the<br />

ceremony but ask that flags are dropped off prior to the event. Uniform is ABUs for the ceremony.<br />

The third annual <strong>Air</strong>men Committed to Excellence Car & Bike Show is fast approaching. We are in need<br />

of 50 to 100 volunteers for this event to be successful. Date, time and location are still to be determined,<br />

but we’re looking at late July, early August.<br />

Pacific Muscle Classic<br />

Volunteers needed to help at the 6th Annual Pacific Muscle Classic Body Building, Figure, and Fitness<br />

contestants and more.<br />
