FLECKVIEH EQUATION
Fullblood Simmental Sale
Sales Management Comments
As the fi nal leg chronologically of the ‘Alberta Simmental Weekend’, the newly named ‘Fleckvieh Equation, Fullblood
Simmental Sale’ enveloping the ‘22nd Annual Fleckvieh Fest’, the ‘11th Annual Fleck Select’, and the ‘5th Annual Festive
Fullbloods’ Simmental sales brings messages of camaraderie and common goals together in one sale. The focus is having
one upper-end consignment sale pursuing the ever increasing popularity of the Fullblood Simmental segment. The
best Fullblood females and a few bulls from the top ends of B.C. and Alberta breeders will be here all showcased under
one roof and one banner.
I write this coming off the successes of the ‘National Trust’ and the ‘4L Dispersal’ so it is proven again that Simmental are
the most in demand demographic in the beef industry. The Fullblood cattle, horned or polled, Full Fleckvieh or Percentage
Fleckvieh, African or Austrian, male or female, are being demanded by both the registered and commercial beef producer.
In essence, the better you make them, the more money they bring, as really it’s always been. Currently, a horned
Fullblood bull is worth the most commercially, and a polled Full Fleckvieh female is the most prized to the registered
breeder. This barrier is diminishing all the time and as Fullblood breeders, isolating groups within the segment, it will limit
overall growth to the demographic. This is not intended to discourage someone from their current breeding program, but
to encourage all Fullblood breeders to support the sector to it’s fullest. On December 5th be prepared to buy cattle that fi t
what your market tells you to make, not necessarily what someone else’s market is telling them to build, and be ready to
be a part of the fasting growing element in the beef cattle business.
If you so desire, allow us to assist you with your purchasing, either through advanced appraisals prior to your attendance,
or confi dentially bidding on your behalf in your absence. Call any of our cell phones listed below.
See you at the ‘Equation’,
HOMOZYGOUS POLLED FULLBLOOD MALE. Three years ago when Daytons PP Mosel 10R was expecting her
fi rst calf, we couldn’t wait to see what she was having. True cattlemen can understand where we’re coming from.
Bull or heifer, we didn’t care, we just wanted to see it. When she had this tiny, wee bull calf, Lee said “There’s
our next heifer bull and he’s a real bellringer” - hence the name. We talked about his dam and grand dam in the
National Trust Sale catalogue so I won’t say much here. We would like to thank Dan and Karen Skeels of Anchor
D Ranch for their purchase of the fl ush at that sale. The “Ringer” grew into a small stylish yearling. We were
lucky to get semen on him that year and used him on our heifers. Disappointed we were not, as his heifer calves
averaged 80 lbs at birth and the bull calves 90 lbs at birth. They also have good growth, keeping up nicely with
the cows’ calves. We would like to thank the following breeders who showed confi dence in the Bellringer and
their purchase of semen in the spring of 2008 – Richard Kulyk of Kulyk Simmentals, Darryl and Sheila Pike of Wild
West Simmentals and Allan Dyck of Stillwater Simmentals. We would like to congratulate Blushrose Simmentals
for their Reserve Grand Champion Female win at the Battleford 4-H show; a fi rst calf heifer with a Bellringer
heifer calf took those honors. The Bellringer is structurally correct, with a small head, fi ne bones in his legs and
his shoulders are set in nicely for calving ease. He is a proven heifer bull with a great temperament and is very
easy to handle. He throws lots of pigment on his calves – no spots. Selling full possession on the bull including
semen and walking rights. Also going with him is a great insurance policy; 150 straws of Canadian use semen.
With two calf crops by him, it was decided that selling him was the best option. Lee and I are very proud of the
Bellringer and what better place to showcase him than at the Fleckvieh Equation Sale this December.
100% FLECKVIEH. Deisel has been used by KMC Simmentals and Salmon Arm Fleckvieh for 2
breeding seasons. His calves are consistent and birth weights are moderate. He doesn’t mind being
handled and is very patient around people. His dam is a Ru-Dev Jim daughter who is a very highly
rated maternal sire. His sire Hayes is the most consistent and dependable sire I have used. He
transmits the Hadau infl uence without the high birth weights. We are willing to let Deisel go as we
have two yearlings and a two year old that we want to test. Deisel is full South African Fleckvieh and
represents some good genetics from our importing efforts.
worst drought in years and came out with shining colors. Defi nitely a bull with the potential to make an
out all summer. He has great neck extension, very heavily muscled with a deep spring of rib. The
cow family Western Style goes back to on his dam’s side is next to none with Jack Pine Hetta as
his grandmother. Jack Pine Hetta has been an outstanding cow since the day we bought her from
John Wolfe. She is 10 years old and looks like most 2 year old heifers, with an amazing udder and
great feet. Western Style should go out and work for anyone looking for a good polled bull.
FULL FLECKVIEH. This will be our second Crackerjack son to sell publicly. Crackerjack’s progeny
that have sold publicly have averaged well over $5000 from various herds in Canada and the U.S.
This polled bull is extremely smooth made out of our calving ease superstar, KWA Redbench female.
The picture of this bull does not do him justice; this bull’s disposition made him diffi cult to picture – he
is extremely docile. He is a moderate framed bull with good balance from front to back with adequate
bone and is fancy to look at – he will catch your eye when you see him. Don’t miss out on the diversity
his calving ease pedigree has to offer out of a fi rst calf heifer.
POLLED 100% FLECKVIEH. The polled heifer that shouldn’t leave the farm. This heifer is a very rugged,
extremely loose hided, high capacity, smooth polled PRL Reserve female. Reserve has made his
mark on females in our herd as well as others. Reserve, now walking the pastures of MFI Farms, has
been well accepted through many well known herds – Double Bar D, MFI, Dollars Diamond D, Arkansas,
Prostock, Texas and the heifer we sold last fall through Select 08 went on to be Pats Simmentals high
selling dispersal open to Daryl and Sheila Pike last spring. Reserve daughters have brood cow stamped
all over them. EXTREMELY easy keeping and very attractive looking cattle. Rachel’s pedigree is very
interesting. Her dam is a full sibling to the high selling SLS Melody cow Virginia Ranch purchased at the
Stony Lake Dispersal. Her maternal grand dam is Pol Pam, which is one of our polled donors and has
progeny in both Canada and the U.S. This heifer has what it takes to follow in the footsteps of her dam
and grand dam and the strength of Reserve’s record makes this polled heifer VERY exciting. We would
be interested in purchasing back an interest in the heifer if the buyer should choose to do so.
29/32 FLECKVIEH. This moderate framed Gutten Tag heifer is the fi rst one we are offering
publicly for sale. Gutten Tag has produced some outstanding progeny for us over the past two
years; they are all very thick, deep bodied and attractive looking. This heifer’s pedigree has
many strong sires backing her up. Glenn really liked this heifer when he visited this summer - I
believe he said “she is the right kind.” And he is right. She has so much going for her; structural
soundness, body depth with a ton of capacity and a beautiful hair coat in a perfectly colored
package out of a fi rst calf heifer.
RRV Natalie 301N
On offer is “Natalie’s” 1 year old and 2 year old Herdsires and her
yearling future donor prospect, all full fl ushmates from Porter’s
Reserve. The Porter’s Reserve progeny to sell to date we all
remember is Double Bar D Flashy to Prospect Hill, JNR’s Polled
Evangeline heifer that sold at last year’s sale.
When you have one of the top cows in the industry, crossed
with a powerful bull like Reserve, these are the results. To show
this is not a one time luck of the draw we are offering all 3. All
of “Natalie’s” progeny are very docile, correct and colored right
with awesome muscling and structural correctness.
She has continuously thrown these attributes no matter which
sire she is crossed with. A true Herd Matriarch.
When we decided to alter our breeding program to 100% solid red, diamond head Fleckvieh, we began looking for a cow to begin with, and at the end of our search “Natalie” was our choice. After
a little wheeling and dealing with Lyle & Pam she proudly became ours.
“Natalie” will turbo charge any Polled or horned program. She is a cow that everyone picks out of the herd for her depth of body, depth and length of hip, very easy keeping, wide topped, picture
perfect udder, massive body structure on a medium frame and so fl awless in every way.
We are selling a fl ush of your choice; you supply the semen and we will do the rest at our expense. Guaranteeing 6 transferable embryos, but to keep it exclusive to you all embryo’s from the fl ush
will be yours. Natalie will be on display sale day.
Virginia Ranch is pleased to be a part of the Fleckvieh Equation sale and looks forward
to marketing the breed with this progressive group of breeders. We have fortunately
been involved/consignors with the Calgary Round Up group since 2000. However,
due to sale location changes, we have opted out of their sale.
The Round Up group is a great group of easy going people and we hope that you will
support them at their new location in High River on December 17th.
at home, but have decided to let a couple go. She is good tempered, good footed and will have a
nice udder like her dam. Being bred to Regis, she will calve easily and produce a powerful calf. Her
dam is easy fl eshing; she produced just shy of 1200 lbs of calf (twins) this year on minimal pasture
be beat. This heifer was shown this summer by some young cattle enthusiasts because of her tremendous
disposition. 914W is a maternal sister to the bred we sold last year to Westgold. 914W’s dam is also the
moderate framed female. This attractive heifer calf has the pedigree to back her up.
Her length of body and wide top facilitate that. She is also the only heifer calf that
came up for a scratch from very early on, lifting her head so you could scratch her neck. Her 2
year old dam has a beautiful udder and is very squarely made. This heifer will not fade into the
background when you take her home. You will always remember the day you made the good
decision to add her to the herd.
FULL FLECKVIEH. This year we know the best must come to town and Wendy is one of those.
She is a heifer that can be described as true Fleckvieh with good feet and an excellent disposition.
Have a good look at her pedigree, Bronson, Impact, Maximizer, Arni, Petra and Takar. We
purchased her mother as a heifer from D. Maronda Simmentals at this sale in 2004. This cow
has become one of our best and is the grandmother of the Bel Steward 2nd heifer we sold to
Elm Tree Farms, Ontario last year at this sale. If you want a heifer with a good udder and who
will produce calves for a profi t, then consider Wendy come sale day.
development and fl eshing ability at such a young age. Wendy was hard to part with but sharing
