29. Pick of the Footprint Farms bred cows When touring the cowherd at Footprint Farms, it doesn’t take long to see the consistency in this herd. They are moderately framed, with loads of width, middle and hip as well as impeccable feet and udders. These cows have been strictly culled, no matter the pedigree. This quiet set of cows are ran like ranch cows with papers. “Earn your keep” is the philosophy at Footprint Farms, which is probably the reason why the bulls from this set of cows have put the yearling division of the Charolais Power bull sale in the top end of yearling bull sale averages for the last four years in the nation. Most of these sons are sold to no nonsense cattle people, who also live in hard grass country and demand the same qualities as Footprint Farms in their breeding stock. Semex and Alta have seemingly also noticed these same qualities in their selection of FPF Ranchand & FPF Alta’s Cool Blue, respectively, for their worldwide semen distribution companies. When the hammer falls, the winning bid will have the right to select from proven donors, who have had embryos marketed overseas, or any of the young future matrons who are earning their way into the donor pen through their production. The herd is balanced with horned & polled purebreds, as well as some select Full French cattle. All cows are bred and selected for moderate birth weights and powerful growth and longevity. The cowherd was bred to two bulls: one, DYV SVY Warrior 2W, who as a calf, was reserve grand champion at Agribition, and has matured into an easy fleshing, easy moving “power” bull. Look for big things from this Pilgrim’s son. The other, Fawcett’s Swagger 57W, was purchased this year at the Charolais Power bull sale, as the high selling bull. He was selected for the same strengths and qualities that Footprint Farms values- a pedigree that boasts such breed greats as Cougar Hill Hank, HFCC Bond, & ABC Latoro. He was sired by Sparrow’s Mecca, the high selling bull at Sparrow’s 2006 spring bull sale. Both of these smooth polled herd sires are near images of each other in their structural make up, phenotype and, as well, they are both very docile to be around. Selection must be made before December 20, 2011, as calving starts in the new year. Footprint Farms wish to retain one full flush, or two shared flushes, with the new owners. 16 Consignor: Footprint Farms
