Alberta Select Charolais Bull & Female Sale
Sales Management Comments
Welcome to the most exciting event to happen to Charolais in Alberta this
fall! This high end sale offering will be complemented by a great pen &
single bull show that will have an honest commercial flavor.
The bull sale portion of the sale has a great variety with an outstanding
group that will include the Lot #1 Full French, March 13 born, bull calf from
long time French breeding establishment Valanjou Charolais. Don Grant
Farms have produced many herdbulls over the years and have three bulls
consigned to the “Select”. One is a two year old son of “Sanchez”, who
is a proven breeder. Also from Grant Farms are two of their top calves
from the ‘11 crop, one white and one red factor, respectively sired by
“Hank” and “Reality Red” (this one being from the donor dam 300J). A
neat feature in the bull division will be the choice of all 4 bulls exhibited
in the show by the Cholack’s Circle Cee Charolais. All bulls entered in
the show are eligible for the sale, are not on display for private treaty
sales, and may be selected for the sale. If you have a bull you may be
interested in purchasing, let us know and we will approach the exhibitor
about consigning him to the sale.
The female sorority of the sale will see the “mini-dispersal” of Brooklyn
Paget’s herd. Initially held back from what ended up being the highly
successful New Country Livestock Dispersal last December, a college
career for Brooklyn has determined the sale of this elite nucleus. The bulk
of this group are made from one cow family plus two ET calves sired by
Wildor Raven himself. The features among the other “live” lots of bred
heifers and heifer calves are far too many to explore individually in this
editorial but I would mention the “picks of...” from Footprint Farms and
Clear Lake Charolais as serious fall sale features.
Please join us for this great weekend that we are privileged enough to
help host and market the two most exciting breeds in the beef cattle
business all in one complex in two great back-to-back days. We prefer
that you do attend, however we do suggest that if you can’t be there
personally and would like to bid and/or buy, you can utilize our trusted,
experienced, industry leading order-buying services in your absence.
We are looking forward to working with as many of you as possible to
increase the value of Charolais cattle.
PURE POWER is a Young, Attractive, Powerful, Full French, Herdsire
Prospect! He possessed a 908 lb actual 200 day weight along with a very
modest 99 lb birth weight. The hip and top that PURE POWER possesses
is extremely impressive -- so much so you need to see it to believe it.
PURE POWER was born March 13/11 which only adds to how explosive
his muscle pattern and genetic power really is, plus the performance he has. His huge hip carries down smoothly into his correct back leg. He shows this off well by
the way he gets out and moves, taking a big, smooth, long stride on a huge square foot. PURE POWER will get your attention and keep it! He has a real neat front
end with great skull structure which really gives him a lot of character.
Full French cattle in the Charolais business are as popular as they have ever been with many Full French animals being sale toppers already this fall. PURE POWER
is the most exciting Full French bull we have seen in years. He combines all the attributes necessary to be the next “GREAT ONE”. If any of you folks remember
back to when Doug Moore won MOO-LA-MANIA, he picked a bull some people weren’t too sure about at the time. That bull turned into a breed legend (HANK).
Pure Power has the MASS and EXPLOSIVE muscle expression combined with a REGAL look that gives him the potential to be a breed LEGEND.
When an opportunity knocks you need to jump at it and get involved. Dec 3 is the day PURE POWER will knock your door down. There will be many ways to be involved
in PURE POWER. If you have any questions you can contact us, Tyler Bullick or Jay Good who can help in any way you need. Terms to be announced at the sale.
POLLED PUREBRED FEMALE PFC383841 PCC 9X 18 March 2010
Not only are these females hard to raise but even harder to find for
sale. Miss Prairie Cove 9X is a sharp fronted, strong topped, deep
sided female with the maternal power to be a breed leader. She is
a representative of the powerful Sparrows Krystal 116R cow family
that has been so great for us. “Krystal” started her career by raising
a $15,000 Herd bull for Loewen Charolais and Hirsh Charolais. (Not
bad for a two year old.) We have been flushing “Krystal” and she has a
fantastic record with two separate flushes gathering 20 eggs a piece.
WOW, what an average.
You folks will be able to experience first hand the thickness and deep
rib shape of Miss Prairie Cove 9X’s sire while in Red Deer as Don Grant
will have JDFJ Playboy 85U on display. The bull has done a whale of
a job for Don as well as being responsible for the genetic EXPLOSION
we have with PCC 9X.
Miss Prairie Cove 9X is bred way along to the Firewater service. For
those of you who don’t know who Firewater is, you will find out very
soon as this bull has caused a whirlwind in the states siring champions
all across the USA. This is a very exciting mating and also hard to find
as Firewater semen is shared with only a few Canadian breeders.
So what a powerful combination. What an opportunity to get into a cow
family that has Power in the blood! As my old buddy Geo Anderson used
to say, “Take A Hold Here Boys”.
15. PRAIRIE COVE MISS 3Y
POLLED PUREBRED FEMALE PFC390111 PCC 3Y 6 February 2011
Well here she is. Do you want a female you can base a program around
We have been all through her mother’s “Krystal” accomplishments and
you can also see her neat sister (PCC 9X) standing beside her. There
is no guess work here. Miss Prairie Cove 3Y just continues to get more
and more powerful, with a big top, a deep rib, a great hind leg, and that
DEVINE look all the GREAT ones have! I read Helge’s column in the
Banner. He keeps preaching that we don’t want to make our Charolais
cattle too small, we need to keep the power in our breed and I couldn’t
agree more. This is the type of female that has the power to raise the
BIG POWERHOUSE herd bulls he is talking about. Maybe the coolest
thing about Miss Prairie Cove 3Y is that she is sired by CSS Gridmaker
2W, the reigning Reserve Champion bull at Agribition, and top ten finalist
in the RBC Supreme as well. By the time we all gather in Red Deer
for this exciting Charolais event, The ACA Select Show and Sale 2011,
CSS Gridmaker will be the Agribition Champion 2011 (just my 2 cents).
He is the deadliest (in a good way) 2 year old bull in the country! He has
had lots of admirers at the shows from all different breeds, saying if this
is what the Charolais cattle are like, they are doing it Right! Good Luck
Garner & Owen.
So to me this is the kind we are trying to build and here is your chance
to own her. Step up and take your program to the next level with Miss
Prairie Cove 3Y.
Pick of the Footprint
Farms bred cows
When touring the cowherd at Footprint Farms, it doesn’t take long to see the consistency in this herd. They are moderately framed, with loads of width, middle
and hip as well as impeccable feet and udders. These cows have been strictly culled, no matter the pedigree. This quiet set of cows are ran like ranch cows with
papers. “Earn your keep” is the philosophy at Footprint Farms, which is probably the reason why the bulls from this set of cows have put the yearling division
of the Charolais Power bull sale in the top end of yearling bull sale averages for the last four years in the nation. Most of these sons are sold to no nonsense
cattle people, who also live in hard grass country and demand the same qualities as Footprint Farms in their breeding stock. Semex and Alta have seemingly
also noticed these same qualities in their selection of FPF Ranchand & FPF Alta’s Cool Blue, respectively, for their worldwide semen distribution companies.
When the hammer falls, the winning bid will have the right to select from proven donors, who have had
embryos marketed overseas, or any of the young future matrons who are earning their way into the donor
pen through their production. The herd is
balanced with horned & polled purebreds,
as well as some select Full French cattle.
All cows are bred and selected for moderate
birth weights and powerful growth and
longevity.
The cowherd was bred to two bulls: one, DYV
SVY Warrior 2W, who as a calf, was reserve grand
champion at Agribition, and has matured into an
easy fleshing, easy moving “power” bull. Look
for big things from this Pilgrim’s son. The other,
Fawcett’s Swagger 57W, was purchased this year
at the Charolais Power bull sale, as the high selling bull. He was selected for the same strengths and
qualities that Footprint Farms values- a pedigree that boasts such breed greats as Cougar Hill Hank,
There are certain things in life you will always remember. That high dollar bull you purchased,
the very first show you judged, the first Gold show you judged, the first cattle clinic
you did, the first time you won at Farmfair and today I will always remember the very first
Charolais female we sold.
Its interesting in life how things go back full circle. As a kid we always had British type cows
and bred them to the best Charolais bulls we could find. I have always had a passion for
the Charolais breed and am very excited to be a part of it. Yes we are new to the Charolais
business, but not to the cattle business. Our farm was established in 1902 and we are proud
of its 109 years and five generations.
34Y is a very deep bodied, thick made female with loads of hair and perfect feet. Come be
a part of this exciting breed, share the excitement of watching the demand of the Charolais
breed grow. 34Y is top of the heifer pen and is entered in the Lloyd Stockade and Farmfair.
out of bulls. Let us help you increase your profits!!!
The Alberta Charolais Association would like to invite every commercial producer who has had a registered Charolais bull transferred to them since
January 1, 2010 to attend the Alberta Select Bull and Female show and sale for a chance to win a free bull.
Every producer must register on Saturday Dec 3, 2011 when they get to the Agricenter on the Westerner grounds at Red Deer Alberta to be eligible
to win the bull or the runner up prizes. Pedigrees and EPDs will be available.
agreed upon by both the winner and bull producer, the bull will be delivered to your farm with a satisfactory semen and soundness evaluation at no
expense to the winner. The bull producer will get $10,000 after he has met all of these requirements.
