APPENDIX B - COOLING WATER PUMP (GC271)<br />

Description<br />

1. The water pump is belt driven from the compressor <strong>and</strong> comprises a neoprene impeller rotating<br />

inside a bronze body. The bearings are sealed <strong>and</strong> the pump is lubricated by the system fluid. Do<br />

not run the pump with the cooling system dry as lack of fluid will damage the impeller.<br />

Dismantling<br />

1. Remove from cooler <strong>and</strong> drain pump by loosening end cover screws.<br />

2. Remove end cover screws, end cover <strong>and</strong> gasket. Lever out impeller using two rods with hooked<br />

ends.<br />

3. Loosen cam screw <strong>and</strong> remove cam. Remove wear plate.<br />

4. Remove shaft retaining ring <strong>and</strong> bolt on underside of bearing housing. Withdraw pump body from<br />

bearing housing.<br />

5. Remove seal assembly <strong>and</strong> slide slinger off shaft.<br />

6. Remove drive end shaft seal <strong>and</strong> bearing retaining ring. Press out shaft <strong>and</strong> bearings from impeller<br />

end.<br />

7. Press bearings from shaft.<br />

Servicing<br />

1. Thoroughly clean all parts <strong>and</strong> examine for signs of wear of damage <strong>and</strong> replace as necessary.<br />

2. A service kit is available <strong>and</strong> contains replacements for all parts likely to be required for normal<br />

overhaul. Service kit Part No.15295/SK229.<br />

Assembly<br />

1. Lubricate inner bearing seal with grease <strong>and</strong> press into bearing housing with spring facing<br />

impeller.<br />

2. Press bearings onto shaft until located in housing.<br />

3. Locate slinger in drain area <strong>and</strong> press haft into bearing housing. Guide slinger onto shafter until<br />

located in housing.<br />

4. Replace bearing retaining ring <strong>and</strong> shafter seal with spring facing drive end.<br />

5. Fit pump body to bearing housing <strong>and</strong> secure with bolt.<br />

6. Replace seal seat <strong>and</strong> cup rubber with seal seat face towards impeller.<br />

7. Fit Primary Seal with carbon face towards face on seal seat. Replace seal retaining ring.<br />

8. Fit wear plate, lining slot with pin in body.<br />

9. Coat top <strong>and</strong> back of cam <strong>and</strong> cam screw with non-setting jointing compound <strong>and</strong> fit in body.<br />

10.Lubricate impeller bore with a light coating of Marfak 2HD grease. Start impeller into bore with a<br />

rotary motion until spline engage <strong>and</strong> then push home.<br />

11.Replace gasket <strong>and</strong> end cover <strong>and</strong> secure with end cover screws.<br />
