9.8 By-Pass Valve

ARE KEPT FREE OF HYDROCARBONS SUCH AS GREASE OR OIL DURING
ASSEMBLY. THE ONLY LUBRICANTS WHICH MAY BE USED ARE MS4, KRYTOX
240AC OR OTHER SUITABLE NON-HYDROCARBON GREASE. FOLLOWING
MAINTENANCE, IT IS DESIRABLE TO OXYGEN CLEAN ALL REGULATORS.
9.9 Booster
9.9.1 1 st Stage Cylinder Head
Description:
The cylinder head is made from cast iron and contains the combined oil free concentral
plate type suction and delivery valve retained by a valve cover, inlet is through the
centre area of the valve. Delivery is around the outer area of the valve.
Service valve to procedure in 9.9.3.
Disassembly:
1. Remove the suction and delivery pipework and water manifold.
2. Loosen and remove the six nuts retaining the valve cover and remove the covers
and remove the valve (using the valve extraction tool number GE 076 from the spares
kit).
3. Loosen and remove the six nuts retaining the cylinder head. Lift off cylinder head
and remove the gasket.
Re-assembly:
1. Check the ‘O’ ring seals in the cylinder head and valve cover for damage or deterioration
and renew if necessary.
2. Fit a new head gasket and refit cylinder head, ensure correct alignment of inlet
and outlet connections. Tighten nuts to correct torque setting – 20 ft-lbs(15 Nm).
3. Refit the valve assembly in the cylinder head ensuring it seat correctly.
4. Refit the valve cover. Tighten nuts to correct torque setting – 20ft-lbs (15Nm).
5. Refit suction and delivery pipework and water manifold
