9.8 By-Pass Valve<br />

WARNING<br />

IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT REGULATORS AND ASSOCIATED FITTINGS, PIPES ETC.<br />

ARE KEPT FREE OF HYDROCARBONS SUCH AS GREASE OR OIL DURING<br />

ASSEMBLY. THE ONLY LUBRICANTS WHICH MAY BE USED ARE MS4, KRYTOX<br />

240AC OR OTHER SUITABLE NON-HYDROCARBON GREASE. FOLLOWING<br />

MAINTENANCE, IT IS DESIRABLE TO OXYGEN CLEAN ALL REGULATORS.<br />

9.9 Booster<br />

9.9.1 1 st Stage Cylinder Head<br />

Description:<br />

The cylinder head is made from cast iron <strong>and</strong> contains the combined oil free concentral<br />

plate type suction <strong>and</strong> delivery valve retained by a valve cover, inlet is through the<br />

centre area of the valve. Delivery is around the outer area of the valve.<br />

Service valve to procedure in 9.9.3.<br />

Disassembly:<br />

1. Remove the suction <strong>and</strong> delivery pipework <strong>and</strong> water manifold.<br />

2. Loosen <strong>and</strong> remove the six nuts retaining the valve cover <strong>and</strong> remove the covers<br />

<strong>and</strong> remove the valve (using the valve extraction tool number GE 076 from the spares<br />

kit).<br />

3. Loosen <strong>and</strong> remove the six nuts retaining the cylinder head. Lift off cylinder head<br />

<strong>and</strong> remove the gasket.<br />

Re-assembly:<br />

1. Check the ‘O’ ring seals in the cylinder head <strong>and</strong> valve cover for damage or deterioration<br />

<strong>and</strong> renew if necessary.<br />

2. Fit a new head gasket <strong>and</strong> refit cylinder head, ensure correct alignment of inlet<br />

<strong>and</strong> outlet connections. Tighten nuts to correct torque setting – 20 ft-lbs(15 Nm).<br />

3. Refit the valve assembly in the cylinder head ensuring it seat correctly.<br />

4. Refit the valve cover. Tighten nuts to correct torque setting – 20ft-lbs (15Nm).<br />

5. Refit suction <strong>and</strong> delivery pipework <strong>and</strong> water manifold<br />
