This course examines alternative theoretical<br />
explanations of Middle East international<br />
relations and state behavior, reviews the<br />

of Middle East states.<br />
INA815 Topics in International Organizations<br />
[3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course consists of case studies on<br />
how international actors behave under<br />
the institutional constraints of the United<br />
Nations. The cases include collective security,<br />
disarmament, peaceful settlement, peacekeeping,<br />
humanitarian intervention, human<br />
security, social and technical cooperation, and<br />
international trade and financial management<br />
to promote economic development.<br />
INA821 Diplomacy and Bargaining [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course focuses on the art and techniques<br />
of political and crisis bargaining among states.<br />
The course surveys alternative theories of<br />
diplomacy, crisis bargaining, and negotiations.<br />
It then simulates actual negotiations between<br />
states in an attempt to inject theories of<br />
diplomacy and bargaining with real world<br />
experiences.<br />

3 cr.]<br />
This course examines the making of the<br />
international political economy, and analyzes<br />
the impact of interactions between economic<br />
and political factors on the international<br />
system. Themes covered include the different<br />
ideologies of IPE, international financial and<br />
trade regimes, complex interdependency,<br />
dependency and economic development,<br />
the challenges of globalization, the role of<br />
governmental and international organizations<br />
on the IPE, and the crisis of capitalism.<br />
INA841 Private International Law [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course includes such topics as<br />
“classification” to identify legal cases, the<br />
application of foreign law in national courts,<br />
resolution of different laws’ contradictions,<br />
conflict of nationalities, and themes related to<br />
capacity, marriage, contracts, etc.<br />
INA842 Topics of International Law [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course focuses on a pertinent contemporary<br />
topic in international law. Topics examined<br />
may include the individual in international law,<br />
international criminal law, extradition, recognition<br />
of states, governments, and belligerent<br />
communities, special tribunals, or any other topic<br />
deemed important by the instructor.<br />
INA851 International Conflict and Conflict<br />
Resolution [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course examines the various causes and<br />
theories of war and international conflict from<br />
different levels of analysis. It then surveys<br />
critically different theories of conflict resolution<br />
and prevention. The course combines both<br />
theoretical and case-study analysis.<br />
INA899 Thesis [6 cr.]<br />
This course involves writing an original and<br />
extensive research project, under the supervision<br />
