This course examines various intervention roles,<br />

methods, and techniques in social work, which<br />

include planning, and contracting, identifying<br />

alternative interventions, selecting and<br />

implementing appropriate courses of action,<br />

monitoring, evaluating, and terminating.<br />

SOC404 Social Work Practicum I [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />

In this course students are provided with a<br />

field experience to apply specific skills, and<br />

knowledge of working with individuals and<br />

families, in different social welfare settings.<br />

SOC405 Social Work Practicum II [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />

Emphasis, in this course, is on providing<br />

students with a field opportunity to working with<br />

groups in different social contexts. It covers the<br />

development of professional skills in dealing<br />

with different actors in a situation.<br />

SOC488 [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />

This course covers topics in Sociology.<br />

SOC499 Senior Study [1-6, 3 cr.]<br />

Prerequisite: Senior Standing.<br />

WOMEN’S STUDIES<br />

WOS311 Issues and Debates in Feminist<br />

Theory [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />

This course is designed to explore the major<br />

issues and debates in feminist theory. Feminist<br />

texts from the Arab world, and other cultures,<br />

are used. The course is interdisciplinary, and<br />

will draw materials from literary criticism,<br />

sociology, anthropology, political science, and<br />

literature.<br />

Prerequisite: ENG101 English I.<br />

WOS312 Women and Economic Power [3-0,<br />

3 cr.]<br />

This course aims to explain the economic role<br />

played by women at both the household and<br />

national levels. The main topics include the<br />

participation of women in the labor force, wage<br />

differentials, and occupational distribution by<br />

gender, as well as determinants of women’s<br />

active economic participation, and their<br />

contribution to national development.<br />

Prerequisites: ECO201 Microeconomics, and<br />

ECO202 Macroeconomics.<br />

WOS313 Women in the Arab World:<br />

Sociological Perspectives [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />

This course examines the roles and status<br />

of Arab women in relation to various societal<br />

factors, including a brief overview of the legal<br />

rights as stated in the personal status code.<br />

Class discussions will analyze the changes<br />

by identifying determinants and patterns of<br />

change. Students are also introduced to basic<br />

gender, and feminist, perspectives on the<br />

status of women in Arab societies.<br />

Prerequisite: ENG102 English II.<br />

WOS411 Psychology of Women: A Feminist<br />

Perspective [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />

This course examines modern psychological<br />

theory, especially as it applies to women,<br />

from a feminist perspective. Topics include<br />

the development of sex differences, gender<br />

identity, and the various notions of “the<br />

feminine mind.”<br />

Prerequisites: ENG101 English I, and PSY201<br />

Introduction to Psychology or PSY202 Child<br />

Psychology.<br />

WOS412 Representations of Women in the<br />

Arts and the Media [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />

This course deals with the media, and the<br />

various art forms such as cinema, music,<br />

poetry, art, the novel, etc., from the Arab and<br />

other cultures. Representations of women<br />

are examined from historical and sociological<br />

perspectives, and patterns are identified as<br />

a basis for evaluation of women’s position in<br />

society.<br />

Prerequisite: ENG101 English I<br />

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS (GRADUATE)<br />

INA811 Theories of International Relations [3-0,<br />

3 cr.]<br />

This course examines contending theoretical<br />

approaches to the study of international<br />

relations. Each theory is set in its own ideational<br />

and historical context. The explanatory value<br />

of the different theories is then compared with<br />

reference to their different levels of analysis.<br />

The course closes by evaluating contemporary<br />

themes and methods in international relations<br />

theorizing.<br />

INA812 Foreign Policy Analysis [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />

This course examines the various factors<br />

influencing foreign policy-making. These<br />

include systemic, domestic, idiosyncratic,<br />

bureaucratic, and constructivist variables.<br />

The course combines theoretical analysis as<br />

well as case studies.<br />

INA813 Topics in International Relations [3-0,<br />

3 cr.]<br />

This course involves an analysis of salient<br />

historical or contemporary themes in<br />

international relations. The choice of a<br />
