Sisters and Brothers of America,
It fills my heart with joy unspeakable to rise in response to the warm and cordial
welcome which you have given us. I thank you in the name of the most ancient order
of monks in the world; I thank you in the name of the mother of religions, and I thank
you in the name of millions and millions of Hindu people of all classes and sects.
My thanks also, to some of the speakers on this platform who, referring to the
delegates from the Orient, have told you that these men from far-off nations may well
claim the honor of bearing to different lands the idea of toleration.
I am proud to belong to a religion which has taught the world both tolerance and
universal acceptance. We believe not only in universal toleration, but we accept all religions as true. I am
proud to belong to a nation which has sheltered the persecuted and the refugees of all religions and all
nations of the earth. I am proud to tell you that we have gathered in our bosom the purest remnant of the
Israelites, who came to Southern India and took refuge with us in the very year in which their holy temple
was shattered to pieces by Roman tyranny. I am proud to belong to the religion which has sheltered and is
still fostering the remnant of the grand Zoroastrian nation. I will quote to you, brethren, a few lines from a
hymn which I remember to have repeated from my earliest boyhood, which is every day repeated by
millions of human beings: "As the different streams having their sources in different paths which men take
through different tendencies, various though they appear, crooked or straight, all lead to Thee."
The present convention, which is one of the most august assemblies ever held, is in itself a vindication,
a declaration to the world of the wonderful doctrine preached in the Gita: "Whosoever comes to Me,
through whatsoever form, I reach him; all men are struggling through paths which in the end lead to me."
Sectarianism, bigotry, and its horrible descendant, fanaticism, have long possessed this beautiful
earth. They have filled the earth with violence, drenched it often and often with human blood, destroyed
civilization and sent whole nations to despair. Had it not been for these horrible demons, human society
would be far more advanced than it is now. But their time is come; and I fervently hope that the bell that
tolled this morning in honor of this convention may be the death-knell of all fanaticism, of all persecutions
with the sword or with the pen, and of all uncharitable feelings between persons wending their way to the
same goal.

FUEL EFFICIENCY : HOW TO IMPROVE
1. Introduction : India is now probably world’s 7 th largest auto market that produces 14.21 million
vehicles of various by types. But the consistent growth of 12% in automobile sector is not
complemented by the potential fuel efficiency measures, thus putting more & more pressure on the
non-renewable energy resources besides increasing levels of CO 2.
Auto companies are also taking fuel efficiency (FE)and pollution control very seriously because
everyone knows that automobiles are the largest consumers of liquid fuels and consequently among
the largest contributors to global pollution and global warming.
2. Alternate fuels for Automobiles : CNG (compressed natural gas) and LPG (liquid petroleum gas)
are emerging as popular automotive fuels. Because they are less polluting than conventional fuels,
the government prices them much lower than petrol or diesel but there is an initial cost of the
conversion kit that can only be fitted to petrol engines. CNG, being a pure gas cannot be compressed
so it has to be piped in at high pressure from the refineries and thus is only available in Mumbai and
Delhi areas. LPG is however a liquid that can be stored at low pressure and transported, like other
fuels, by tankers to any town. Electric vehicles, that produce zero pollution, are very slowly gaining
popularity but are a bit expensive.
3. Homologation : All domestic Indian vehicles have to pass a process of homologation or conformity
before they are allowed to be sold. The Government test centers like ARAI (Automotive Research
Association of India) not only check to confirm their specifications, engine power etc., but also the
fuel consumption under standard test condition.
4. Difference between Fuel Efficiency & Fuel Consumption : There is a difference between fuel
efficiency and fuel consumption. Most modern engines may be almost equally fuel efficient but their
fuel consumption may be different as they are affected by many other factors. The engine of a small
Tata Nano may be no more fuel efficient than a big Toyota Corolla but will consume less fuel as it is
lighter in weight.
Also the exhaust emissions tend to correspond with the fuel consumption though some engines are
a little cleaner than others. Technologies are improving very rapidly as customers worldwide are
getting aware of fuel efficiency. They concentrate on better burning of fuel with MPFI (Multi Point
Fuel Injection), multi valves, variable valve timing, etc., as well as better scrubbing of the exhaust
gases with catalytic converters, etc.
In India SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers), by following international custom,
classifies vehicles in different size categories according to their length.
Presently, the excise tax on most of the passenger cars is between 20-24% depending upon category.
But if the FE labeling program to be made successful, govt. is expected to consider further reducing
the excise duty as fiscal incentives to the buyers to encourage sale of fuel efficient cars particularly
entry level small family cars that still continue to dominate the market among all the segments. This
would largely help mitigate climate change by reduction of CO 2
emissions.
5. Are latest Diesel engines most fuel efficient & least polluting: Till quite recently, diesel engines
were usually noisy, sluggish and polluting but since the advent of high pressure common rail fuel
injection they are now comparable to petrol engines in terms of power and exhaust emissions though
superior in fuel efficiency. In fact, modern diesel vehicles are more than double as fuel efficient and
half as polluting as compared to ten year old diesel vehicles.
6. Upcoming innovation to help consistent improvement in efficiency: Improved engine technologies
are the main element in improving fuel consumption but there are many other factors as well. The
impact of some recent innovations like variable valve timing, petrol direct injection, high pressure
Diesel injection, digital valve activation; 5/6 speed gear box and other various factors would further
enhance the fuel efficiency in the coming years.
7. Measures that improve Fuel Efficiency: Since the FE labeling of cars is yet to become a reality in
India, there are certain measures that can tangibly improve the efficiency of the vehicles. This is
above and beyond the labeling of the cars as the fuel efficiency measures would have to be followed
to get higher mileage and conserve fuel to achieve the objectives of conservation of non-renewable

energy resources & climate change. Almost any car can give you anything from 5 Kmpl to 25 Kmpl
depending on the category, how it is driven and the road & traffic conditions.
A. Cold engines. If your car does a 5-minute trip to the market and then goes on a series of short
trips your engine never gets warm enough to achieve thermal efficiency and you do not expect
good fuel efficiency.
B. Driving at high engine speeds. If you like to drive at a high speed in each gear, you will get the
thrill of fast driving but will have to pay a price for it. Conversely if you drive like a proverbial old
woman and keep the engine at minimum speeds your fuel consumption will be much better but
driving in too low speeds will also cause knocking and shorten engine life. So do not overdo it
and drive at a steady speed to get higher mileage.
C. Too many stops and starts. Driving in traffic with long periods of idling at red signals or when
stuck at traffic is a fuel efficiency killer. Hence switch-off your engines at red signals. If not,
switch-off your AC to reduce fuel consumption.
D. Bad Roads. These can combine the impact of too many stops with the need to use high engine
speeds in low gears to keep your vehicle moving so it can play havoc with your fuel consumption.
E. The weight of the car. Most modern cars must meet current crash safety requirements and are
heavier than earlier models and they therefore eat more fuel. But this is a small price to pay for
safety.
F. The load that you carry This weight factor is naturally increased if your car is overloaded with
six people and loads of luggage. If you carry baggage on a roof rack than you will also have the
impact of air resistance. Thus adjust your baggage, smallest in the front & largest in the rear,
tightly tie & cover to minimize air resistance.
G. Engine tuning and timing. Do not neglect your regular servicing to get better efficiency from
your cars.
H. Air, oil and fuel filters. Choked filters can play havoc with fuel consumption & also efficiency.
So ensure that these are regularly serviced and changed when they are dirty or clogged.
I. Tyre pressure. Increasing tyre pressure will reduce rolling resistance and fuel consumption. So
be careful to maintain the correct pressure recommended by every car maker.
J. Evaporation losses. All vehicles suffer from a little evaporation loss especially in the hot
summer months. This loss will be higher in many cars that stand idle for any length of time.
8. Hybrid cars with electric motors working in tandem with petrol engines are being promoted by many
auto makers to demonstrate their concern for the environment.
9. Two wheelers, the largest selling Indian vehicles: These factors apply not only to cars but to
motorcycles, and all two wheelers. Under the pressure of legislation, the noisy and polluting 2 stroke
engines have now been replaced by 4 stroke engines.
10. Fuel Consumption of vehicles : The fuel consumption of all vehicles depends on their laden
weight as well as the number of Kms it plies. Typically most personal cars drive about 600 Kms a
month so a medium sized car at 10 Km per liter, it may consume 60 liters per month.
11. Commercial & Public Transport Vehicles Consume and Pollute the most : What makes India’s
trucks and buses especially polluting is the fact that the bulk of India’s huge fleet consist of very
inefficient old vehicles. Thus majority of the fuel consumption in the automobile sector takes place
for the commercial vehicles and public transports.
12. Fuel Efficiency and Labeling of Cars from 2011 :The auto makers are apprehensive with the
Governments proposal for them to carry labels (as in the case of air-conditioners) showing the fuel
efficiencies from 5 star as most efficient to 1 star as least efficient. They all respect the ARAI test
system but feel that there are so many other factors as enumerated above and correctly fear that
customers who have so many choices today will shun any brand that is given low fuel efficiency
ratings.

Adarsh Nagar (Jaipur), Rajsthan North & East : Earthen
water pots were hung in Jhalana forest area and Ramlila ground
Jawahar Nagar considering the non availability of water to the
birds. The branch hung 30 water pots in above areas. It has been
assured by the people dwelling in the nearby areas that they will
see that the water pots would remain full with water. Patron Smt.
Neeta Khaitan, President Dr. Kavita Sahni, Secretary M.L. Gupta,
Treasurer Gopal Jetawat and other members contributed their
might in completing this task. Dr. Kavita Sahni told that a good
number of birds meet their unnatural death due to non availabilitiy
of water to them during the scorching heat in the summer season.
That is why this step has been taken. She further added that the
persons who daily come for a walk have appreciated the action taken and have assured to see that water
pots remain full with water all the times.

EFFECT OF TELEVISION VIEWING ON CHILDREN
With wide spread and affordability of television sets, it is high time the parents should know about the
negative effects of television viewing on the brain, eyes, imagination and development. Too much television
is over-stimulation to children and hinders the proper growth and emotional development of young children.
It is important the parents recognise this fast-growing problem so that they are better equipped in raising
children.
True, in present day world, watching TV has its own utility, which, everyone cannot live without; it easily
emerges as an indispensable form of education, entertainment. There are positive effects and negative
effects of TV and parents are to be aware of how it can benefit or affect the children.
The benefits could be:

The children can be exposed to positive content and be enriched with programmes such as
educational, variety shows and sports. The internet too facilitates it.
Spending quality time together. Parents, family members would watch quality programmes together,

The overall bonding of the child with the family will be immense.
The negative effects could arise due to
viewing habits of the family:
Many children are getting myopic (eyes
short sightedness) apart from other
ailments these days. One of the factors is
watching TV or playing computer games
for a long time.
Excessive violence and use of improper
or slang language on viewing unhealthy
programmes as children love to imitate.
Family and children view same
programmes, not suitable for children.
Family and children view programmes in late hours causing children to lose much-needed sleep and
viewing programme for much longer duration.
With too much time at TV, their studies and home-work suffers.
At schools and even otherwise in
society, it is disturbing to see children
wearing glasses from an early age.
This will eventually impact their
personality, concentration, growth,
eye aliments in later part of life. the
parents also need to play a pro-active
role.
With TV, satellite, videos, internet access to unhealthy programmes has increased a lot.
Largely, mothers busy with domestic chores or at times for relaxation, make child sit before TV to
watch a programme, resulting in addiction to TV from an early age.
Viewing TV is accepted by family, even if reluctantly, instead of playing outdoors. Play promotes
overall development of children.
To mitigate the negative aspects, responsible parents could keep in mind:
Explain logically to children so that their TV viewing hours is limited. Most of children have inborn
ability to understand the logic. Parents should practice themselves what they expect from a child.
Children are allowed to select TV programmes like educational programmes etc.
The eating- be it meals or snacks- in front of TV be banned. Parents to set an example.
As far as possible, join kids while they are watching their selected programmes.
Many families have a TV set in children’s room. It must be avoided.

closer to the philosophical working of the parishad.

branch. Sh. Chaman Lal Kamra, President, Punjab

Sh. Lalit Mahajan, Addl. Secretary General,
threw light on the philosophy of BVP. He highlighted
the thought of Swami Vivekananda for service of
mankind and motivating the youth for their role in
development of the Nation. He also explained the
projects and schemes organised at National level
and the corpus fund collected and maintained for
help to needy persons during natural calamities.
Sh. Sriniwas Bihani, National Secretary, Vistar
explained the set up of BVP and its working at
branch, distt.,state, zone and national level. He set
the target for no. of branches in Pb. South to 45
against the existing 36 and membership to 2100.
Sh. Jai Pal Garg, Zonal Secretary, explained
the meaning of SAMPARK in context of BVP and
various projects connected with the sampark sutra.
He explained the protocol to be observed at the
meetings and the functions of the Parishad at
various levels.
During the second session Sh. Sewa Singh
Chawla threw light on the need, importance and
various projects prescribed under sanskar sutra.
He explained how to organize GVCA, NGSC, BKJ
projects to inculcate Bhartiya sanskars in youth.
Dr. Rajesh Puri explained how we can reach
to the needy in the society through the sewa
projects. He acquainted the members with various
sewa projects being taken up by parishad viz:
Viklang Kendras, vanvasi kalyan yojana etc. Sh

of the branch presided over the function. Senior
member & Ex president Ramanna Havale wrote the
book in a very impressive manner regarding
freedom movement of Hyderabad area from Nizam
Govt. of Hyderabad with details of all freedom fighters
who took part in above movement. Mr. Nagappa
who was leader of above movement and unfurled
first tricolour flag of freedom wisdom at Raichur
Fort was to Release the alove mentioned book of
Rammanna Havela (300 Pages in Kannada). But
couple of days before of the above function he
exepired due to sudder cardiac arrest. The book
was released by Suramanna chief guest of the
function and also he installed new team of office
bearers of branch elected for the period of 2011-12
K. Nagangowda took the oath as new President A
special felicitation programme was arranged to
felicitate all 46 freedom fighters along with their
families or their representatives etc. with shawl &
garland and the newly released book.
Belgaum : Installation of new office bearers
for the year 2011-12 was organized on 17th April at
Sant Meera English Medium School. President
Anand Kulkarni welcomed all. Prof. Smt. Aruna Naik
introduced BVP to the gathering. Smt. Swati
Ghodekar introduced Smt. Mangalatai Savadikar,
Chief Guest and Madhavarao Savadikar, guest of
honour. Shri Nana ji Deshpande, Secretary briefed
about the activities of the branch. Dr. Prema
Gramopadhye introduced the incoming President
Smt. Sukhad Deshpande and the incoming Treasurer
Smt. Shubhangi Mirashi, while Smt. Trupti Desai
introduced the incoming Secretary Smt. Rajani
Gurjar. Shri Anand Kulkarni handed over the charter
and the Presidents Lapel to the new president. The
unique feature of Belgaum branch this year is
that all the office bearers and conveners of the
programmes/projects are women. Many new
personalities from various walks of life joined BVP
as members and were welcomed by the president.
The outgoing office bearers were felicitated by the
new president with shawl, flowers and shreephal
as a mark of gratitude. A Samarika was released
by Madhavrao Savadikar. He addressed the
gathering as guest of honour and spoke about the
financial management and accounting. Smt.

Karyakarta, presented her address as the chief
guest. Many important personalities of the city
attended the function and expressed their good
wishes to the new team.

perfect and ideal son, perfect and ideal brother,
perfect and ideal husband, perfect and ideal friend,
perfect and ideal king. If every human being
endeavours to follow Shri Ram and try to become
perfect and ideal in their behavior, relations and life,
we can surely have Rama Rajya and lead happy
and peaceful life. In BVP we the members should
positively follow Shri Rama and impress upon

discourse given by Smt. Chanchal Punekar an active
member of Swadhyaya, in the monthly meeting of
Belgaum branch held on 15th May. She was invited
as the guest to address. During the same meeting,
our senior member Shri Eknath Hunnargikar was
felicitated with shawl, shreephal and flowers for his
75th birth day. He is associated with many social
organizations and is very active in social life. Smt.

PUNJAB EAST
Chandigarh : All four branches of District
South organized their Dayitva Grahan Samaroh,
jointly on 23.04.2011 in Sood bhawan. Shri H.R.
Narang, President, presided over the function. S.P.
Tiwari, National Vice President, Rakesh Sehgal,
Zone-l President, S.C. Galhotra, Secretary, K.L.
Chauhan, Secretary audit Zone-I, Presidents of all
districts of Chandigarh and nearly 200 families of
members of all four branches participated in the
function. Didi Kavita, Brahm Kumari Ashram,
delivered a very useful and impressive talk on
positive thinking.
On 17th April 2011 branch organized parivar
milan and oath taking ceremony with great zeal. A
large group of female membes of West-II branch
paid a visit to the old-age home on 08.4.2011. The
ladies had a person to person contact with the
residents to enguire obert their health and problems.

A blood donation camp was organized by the branch
on 22.04.2011. In this camp 69 units of blood were
collected by a team of doctors from Govt. Hospital
Sector-32, Chandigarh. Each blood donor was given
a treat of fruit, milk, coffee etc and also given a gift
in token of his donation of blood.
Nabha : Branch distributed school uniforms
to 105 poor students from eight different schools
on 02.05.2011 under the project help to the needy
at M.K. Arya Girls High School. The project incharge
Ms. Swaroopa Rani Singla supervised the whole
proceedings. She was accompanied by the branch
president Kamal Kumar Goyal, cashier Chaman Lal,
Ex President R.V. Singla, press secretary Sarjiwan
Sharma, eminent citizens of the town and members
of the branch.
Malerkotla : Branch provided 5000 note
books and uniforms to the students of 13 various
schools. Jaswant Rai Jain was the chief guest and
Som Nath Bansal Presided. During installation
ceremony of new office bearers for the year 2011-
12 Jeet Gogia, Kamal Kant Modi and Jatinder Singh
took oath as President, Secretary & Treasurer
respectively. Mistry Mohd. Nazir was honoured for
his fifty years service of Gaushala. Sardar Gurnam
Singh Pandher, Vikas Ratna was the chief guest
while Smt. Charanjeet Kaur & Smt. Rama Deewan
recited very emotional Bhajans.
Branch organised a declanation contest on
the topic 'Neccesity of moral values in our life'.

Sangrur : Branch organised Parivar milan
programme and oath taking ceremony of the new
elected team for the year 2011-12 under the
presidentship of Vivek Deep Bansal. President
Vivek Dep Bansal, Secretary Parveen Kumar and
Treasurer Yash Pal Aggarwal took the oath for their
respective duties of the Parishad and assured for
the well being of the soceity with the co-operation
of all the branch members. Shri Bharat Hari Sharma
from the Sunam branch gave information about the
Eye donation programme of the Parishad and
motivated the members for pledging of eyes
donation. The Ex President of the branch Bipan Mittal
was honoured for his appreciable work for the branch
for the last 2 years. With his motivation 10 Vikas
Mittar, were enrolled and they were also felicitated.
Lakshmi Bai, Patiala : Branch organised a
free camp for the handicap with the help of District
Disability and Rehabilitation centre, on 15.05.2011
at Khoobsurat Place. Shri Avinash Rai Khanna,
member Rajya Sabha was the Chief Guest, Shri
Baljinder Thakur, member Punjab state Human
Rights Commission and Dr. Rajinder Kumar,
President Suchna Adhikar Manch (Regd.) were the
guests of honour. 200 patients were examined and
out of that 76 persons were identified for the aid.
On the spot tricycles to six persons, wheelchairs
to six persons, hearing aids to four persons were
given. Dr. Pritpal Singh, Incharge, DDRC, Patiala,
Dr. B.S. Sohal, ENT Specialist and Dr. Mann
examined the patients. On this occasion Shri
Navdeep Gupta, District President, Mohinder Kumar
Goyal, President, R.V. Vashishth Secretary, Mahesh
Kumar, Treasurer were also present alongwith other
members.
PUNJAB NORTH
Manimajra : Branch organised annual
function on April 24 at Lohia Int. School. During the
function the oath to the newly elected team and
new members was administered. A colourful cultural
programe by the school students and the members
of the branch was presented. The branch also
honoured the past President, Secretary, Treasurer
and the patron for their memritorious services. Bhim
Sain Kalia an NRI was the chief Guest and H.R.
Narang President, presided over the function. M.K.
Khaitan was the guest of honour. The function was
followed by dinner. Smt. Geeta Tondon, Mahila
Parmukh, conducted the programme. Rakesh

Gurdaspur : Branch celebrated Nav Varsh
2068, Ram Navmi and Baisakhi in the month of
April 2011. The branch donated a color TV (29 inch.)
to the inmates of children home Gurdaspur in the
presence of the chief guest Shri R.P. Singh, ADC.
The branch has adopted this children home as one
of the project. The branch distributed stationery and
sitting matss to the Govt. primary school
Mehmoodpur on 29th Aprill.

Bhatinda : Ration to 16 needy widows is
distributed every month. On 9th May ration was
distributed for the month of April & May. The total
expenses incured were to the tune of Rs. 9600/-.
The branch honoured the donors of the said
meaningful projects. Smt. S.L. Latika, chairperson
of the project thanked the donors & requested them
to help us to add more donors so that we may
continue the project. Branch inducted 10 new
members & oath was administered by Er. M.P. Arora
member EC on 21st May at Veer Bhawan. The
literature 'BVP Ek jhalak' was also distributed to
the new members. The oath was administrated to
the new team by Prof. Ashok Gupta, State Advisor
President V.K. Juneja, Secretary S.P. Mahajan, and
Treasurer Shakti Goyal took oath.
Talwandi Bhai : The branch spent a sum of
Rs. as detailed below on the construction of the
sheds at the local cremation ground as follows:
20x20 ft. in Majbhi Sikh colony at the sact of Rs.
1,00,000/-, 20x20 ft in, Majbhi Sikh colony at the
cos of Rs. 50,000/.- Dr. B.L. Pasricha, Additional
General Secretary supervised the construction
work. Shri J.S. Brar, E.O. Nagar council, Baldev
Singh Brar, Nagar councillor also rendered help in
this project. The branch paid a sum of Rs. 650 to
BVP Charitable Trust Ludhiana for one physically
handicapped person Gurwinder Singh of Tehsil Nihal
Singh Wala.
HARYANA NORTH
Suraj (Karnal) : Installation ceremony was
held on 01.05.2011 with chief guest Dr. R.C. Mishra
IPS IGP Haryana, GOH and Dr. Joshi Director of
NBAGR Karnal. K.L. Java took oath as President,
Mahesh Sharma as Secretary and Brij Mohan Gupta
as Treasurer Joy Kirat is Mahila pramukh, Atul
Sharma and Chander Mehta Jt. Secretary, Bhushan
Goyal and Khahama Batra as V President. The
function was presided over by Dr. G.S. Sharma.
Panchkula : Oath taking function of newly
elected office beareres and members was held in
Parishad Bhawan on 30th April. Parnav Jawa, State
Secretary administered Dayitva Grahan Shapath
to newly elected President V.K. Bansal. Finance
Secretary S.C. Jindal, administered member's
Sankalp to new members. Dr. R.C. Chanana
outgoing President briefly spoke about the activities
of the branch and medical facilities added in the
physiotherapy centre. The state President Joginder
Madaan highly appreciated the team work of the
branch which lead to increase in membership from
74 to 110 during the last two years. A function to
distribute books and stationery to 252 students from
class IX and XII of Govt. Schools and those of
Azad Colony Primary School was held on 7th May,
2011. S.P. Singla and K.B. Bandhu provided
financial help of Rs. 25,000/- and Rs. 20,000/-
respectively. Uniforms for Azad School were
provided by Manjit Singh of Mohali, S.K. Sekhri,
Director, Saksharta Project assured the financial
help to the students who get admission in Govt.
run professional Colleges. V. Mohini spoke about
the progress of construction of Bitiya Vikas Kendra.
Goyal, M.C. donated building material worth Rs.
100,000/- lakh for the building. S. Pandit, Asha Jain
and Smt. Jalmegha, M.C. also donated Rs. 25000/
Rs. 11,000/- and Rs. 5,100/- respectively for the
project. S. Kapoor and Savita Kapoor also
contributed Rs. 500/- each. Shri V.K. Bansal thanked
for the generous contribution made by donors for
the noble cause.
MAHARASHTRA-I
Navi Mumbai : 13th annual general body
meeting wa organized on 10th April 2011 at Arya
Samaj, Sector 9A, Vashi. 35 members were present,
along with special invitee from the Prant. Dr.
Manohar Lal Chief Guest recited a bhajan. Smt.
Usha Bhaid, joint Secretary and convener of GVCA
read the minutes of the last annual general meeting
which were passed unanimously. Secretary B.B.
Rupani gave the annual report of activities
conducted during last year. The most important
activity being one member from our branch became
"Vikas Ratna" and other seven members became
"Vikas Mitra". Annual report was also considered
and adopted by the body. Smt. Gokhale, the newly
elected President announced the new executive
committee for year 2011-12. Dr. Manohar Lal
administered oath to new members. Shri J.D.
Adhyapak, was reappointed as auditor for the year
2011-12, who has been rendering honorary services
to our branch for the last many years. Kamlesh
Pareek, Secretary of the Prant, who graced the
occasion appreciated the working of the branch and

MAHARASHTRA-II
Sangli : The first meeting was held on
13.04.2011 with 20 members. An appeal was made
to incrase the membership. A blood donation camp
was held on 9th April at Dr. Chaitanya's residence
at Haripur. 30 persons donated blood. Oath was
taken by all members as well as office bearers in
front of chief guest Ex Judge Pramod Bhokare
(Advocate). He delivered a speech on his
experiences in court working & answered questions
raised by members.
Second meeting was held on 29-04-2011.
Secretary Vaibhav Joshi welcomed all members.
He introduced the speaker Neeta Kelkar. She spoke
on the subject of 'role of women after 50%
reservation'. She was felicitated for entering in the
pooja area of Mahalaxmi Temple, Kolhapur which
was prohibited for women till then. Shri Telang gave
a report of the state level workshop held at Pune
on 24th April. Mr. Telang, Lulla & Vaibhav Joshi
attended the said workshop.
During the third meeting held on 11th may it
was reported by Treasurer Pratima Ukidave that till
today 32 members had enrolled for the membership
of the branch. Secretary Vaibhav introduced speaker
Vinit Paranjpe. He spoke on the subject of Sanskar
Mhanje Kai. A lively discussion was made amongst
children & parents. Bharati Digade & Sunita Bajaj
were reminded to conduct the shivir for children in
the 4th week of May. The conveners for 3 main
activities were appointed as under : Samuh Gan
P.H. Kulkarni, BKJ Sudhir Joshi, GVCA Vishal
Gaikwad.
The fourth meeting of the branch was held on
25th May. It was reported by him that Rs. 9250/-
were sent towards central & state share. He
introduced the speaker of the day Chintamani
Sahastrabuddhe of dainik pudhari, who spoke on
the subject importance of history.
'Bal Sanskar Shibir’ was organized on 30 th
May at Shailendra Telang’s residence at Haripur in
which 35 children participated. The age group was
5 to 15. Ms. Nilima Limeye , Mr. Shashikant
Ainapure and Mrs. Prachi Godbole were faculty
members. The contents were slide show on
environment protection, stories on sanskar, health
care etc. Useful books were distributed as gift to
the children.
DELHI SOUTH
A-Block Janakpuri : The first camp of the
academic session 2011-12 was declared open on
10th April in a simple but solemn ceremony by S.P.
Bhatia, President of the branch in the presence of
its functionaries and members of executive. The
functionaries were introduced to the 95 participating
trainees of 10-14 age group of the various schools.
Two more such camps were also organized on
subsequent 17th & 24th April attended by 105 & 86
children respectively. The branch participated in Ram
Shobha Yatra organized by Dharmik Samajik Sangh,
Janakpuri to commemorate Ram Navami on 17th
April. Clothes, old in name only but in a very good
condittion, collected by the untiring efforts of Shri
K.L. Verma, incharge of this project, were distributed
among the 30 needy families of Sewa Basti,
adopted by the branch. In a fairly well attended
regular monthly meeting, an enlightening talk on
'Vairagya and Bhakti in Human Life' by an eminent
social worker Dr. N.L. Madan was delivered.
B-Block, Janakpuri: The branch organized
a very special program on 15-05-2011 with the
objective of motivating likeminded elite & educated
residents to join our fold. 60 senior functionaries of
BVP and other organizations attended the function.
Dr. (Shrimati) Usha Lal, a renowned speaker gave
a very stimulating talk on the subject “Bhakti Keun
Aur Kaise”. Question –Answer session followed after
the talk. The branch is collecting every month
unutilized medicines from members and giving to
DDU Hospital for the use of poor patients. Five
Dental camps were organized during May 2011
benefiting 51 dental cases and 7 De-addiction
cases.
Janakpuri Main : Bal sanskar shivir was
organized by the branch from 16th to 29.05.2011at
S.D. Mandir. The shivir was inaugurated by P.R.
Sahni former mayor of Delhi. About 108 students
participated & learnt the art of Yoga & Pranayam
from eminent Yogarcharyas like G.B. Sharma & P.D.

ASSAM
Agartala : West branch celebrated the
anniversary of the great world famous poet Gurudev
Rabinder Nath with the colorful cultural programme
styled as Sarddha satabarsa utshav on 15th May
2011. The state Vice President and the senior most
member Dr. Amrita Lal Bhattacharyya presided over
the function. Welcome address was given by Smt.
Chitra Sarkar. The Chief guest Subimal Roy famous
Rabindra Scholar delivered his invaluable speech
in which he pointed out various aspects of the great
Rabindra Literature. The joint Rabindra Sanghita
performed by the great artists who were present on
the occasion and a young artist Smt. Nivedita Deb
performed her beautiful Rabindra Sanghita on the
function.
Karimganj : Branch observed 121st birth
anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in a befitting
manner on 14th April 2011. The branch President,
Secretary and other members garlanded the statue
of Ambedkar ji. Branch observed martyr's day 19th
May in a befitting manner. 11 lamps were illuminated
in the evening in the branch premises to pay
homage to eleven martyr's and later a meeting was
also organized.
Jorhat: Branch successfully conducted a
training programme on Skill Development on Jute
and Handmade paper utility product from 26/04/11
to 15/05/11 at Jorhat. The programme was
sponsored by the Numahigarh Refinary Ltd. with
the aim of generating employment avenues for the
rural youth. 27 trainees attended the programme
and merit certificates were also awarded by the
President of Jorhat Branch. The new executive body
of the Jorhat Branch for the year 2011-12 was formed
with Dr. Anil Roy as President and Sri P.K.
Chakraborty as Secretary and Sri Brien Phukan as
Treasurer on 15/5/11.
AVADH PRADESH
Lucknow Poorvi : Daayitva grahan was
organized at Vishwa Samvaad Kendra Lko. on
27.04.2011. Oath was administered by Shri Madan
Lal Agrawal,Praanteeya mahasachiv.15 new
members also took Sankalp on this day.The new
Office bearers for the year 2011-12 are President
Dr.R.S.Katiyar, Secretary Ajay Kumar Pandey and
Treasurer Sunil Kumar Pandey.

Auraiya : Branch held its annual election
meeting at Utsav Guest house on 24th April 2011
where oath was given to President, Secretary and
Treasurer by Shri Jitendra Singh Tomar Zonal
Secreary Sampark. He also addressed the oath
takers to follow the path of vishva Kalyan. A lecture
was also delivered by Shashi Bhushan, President
of the Prant. Annual report was presented by
Secretary of the branch Dr. Ramesh Shukla.

Vidyaranya :On 10.04.2011members visited
Karunya Sindhu ( Home for Destitute Boys) at
Champapet. Shri B.Narayana President presided
over the function. Shri Ramalinga Reddy, Treasurer
of Karunya Sindhu welcomed the members.Shri
G.Srinivasa Rao, Vice President of A P West was.
The chief guest, and Shri J. Prabhakar Rao,

A.P. NORTH & EAST
Anakapalli : Branch conducted Dr. B.R.
Ambedkar's Jayanti on 14.04.2011 at BVP state
office, Bhavani Apartment. In this meeting Smt.
Pilla Nirmala, state President, was the chief guest.
She garlanded Dr. Ambedkar's photo and gave a
wonderful speech on the services of Dr. Ambedkar
to India. In this programme, a book written by
Smt. P. Amara Jyothi was released. Shri Patnala
Bhaskara Rao, state convenor, BKJ, Smt. Pilla
Vijaya Kumari and other members participated in
the programme. From 24 to 30 April branch
conducted 7 days free coaching in painting and
glass painting for children and fabric painting, for
women as part of Yuva Sanskar Shivir at Zilla
ParishadHigh School, K.Koppaka, in coordination
with Nirmala Trust. This programme was sponsored
by Artyka an Art Society, Visakhapatnam
(Affiliated to Prachina Kala kendra,Chandigarh).
85 students participated in this 7 days programme
and shown excellent performance in different kinds
of painting as mentioned above. On the last day
in the valedictory function branch conducted
competition among them and given the prizes to
the winners.
Branch also conducted Bal Sanskar Shivir
at M.P. U.P. School. 112 students learned painting,
patriotic songs games, moral stories and
preparation of Teaching learning material. From
24th April to 02.05.2011 branch also conducted
the Bal and mahila sanskar shivir at Bhavani
apartments. 20 children and 15 women learned
different kinds of painting. Smt. Pilla Nirmala, Shri
Srihari, Shri K.V. Ramana Murthy, Patnala Bhaskara
Rao, Shri Alla Ome Ramu, Shri Kandregula Appa
Rao, and parents participated in the programe.

Chandershekharpur, (Bhubaneswar) : The
election of office bearers was conducted on
13.02.2011 in the presence of Election Officer, Smt.
Premalata Devi of Bhubaneswar North branch. Smt.
Kumudini Panda, Smt. Saudamini Nayak and Smt.
Aparna Swain were elected as President, Secretary
and Treasurer respectively for the year 2011-12.
Office bearers and new members were administered
oath by Prof. D.D. Mishra at the meeting held on
14.04.2011. Swami Pranarupananda of Sharada
Niketan, Uttara graced the occasion and delivered
an inspiring speech. A meeting of the branch was
held to distribute the blood grouping cards to the
inmates and staff of and at the Biju Patnaik
Muktashram (Open Jail), Jamujhari on 24.05.2011
with Smt. Kumudini Panda in the chair. The blood
grouping was done at the venue on 29.12.2010. Smt.
Saudamini Nayak, Prof. D.D. Mihsra, Shri Gopal
Chandra Patra along with the Jailor, Shri S.N. Patnaik
were on the dais. Smt. Panda explained the utility
of the blood grouping cards. Shri G.C. Patra and
Smt. Namita Dash spoke on the occasion. Shri
Patnaik profusely thanked this branch for such
activies and hoped more will follow. Prof. Misra
proposed a vote of thanks. After the meeting, cards
were distributed to the inmates and staff by Shri
Pranabindu Acharya, I.G. Prison.

ILSOBA : we have started construction of 5th
sanitation project now. The work is in progress. Priuj
Chambers, Urinals along with casting of roof is
the hands of Dr. Dinesh M. Amin, patron & Prof.
Chaitanyabhai Trivedi, both Trastees of BVP Gujarat
Prant in annual general meeting. An audio Visual
show was also presented by Jivodaya Charitable
Trust, Amdavad for Animal & Birds welfare activities
(life saving of animal) in Gujarat since 1970. 200
persons were present. Prof. Chaitnya Trivedi,
announced the new executive comittee of Paldi
branch for 2011-12.
