CENTERS <strong>United</strong> <strong>States</strong> <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Operations</strong> <strong>Command</strong> is organized around the traditional J-code staff. However several of the J-codes which have distinct affinities have been “grouped” into what we call <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Operations</strong> “Centers” in order to gain the most effective and efficient cross staff coordination. This construct has evolved over time into the organization that you see today. A look at the organizational chart starting at the bottom should assist you in understanding the “Center” grouping of staff section J-codes. SOCS – Chief of Staff & <strong>Command</strong> Support Center- A process oriented center providing personnel and special staff support to the headquarters and its components. SOCS is comprised of 19 organizations: Care Coalition, <strong>Command</strong> <strong>Operations</strong> Review Board, <strong>Command</strong> Chaplain, <strong>Command</strong> Engineer, <strong>Command</strong> Historian, <strong>Command</strong> Protocol, <strong>Command</strong> Surgeon, Directorate of Personnel, Headquarters <strong>Command</strong>ant, Inspector General, Legislative Affairs, Political Advisor, Public Affairs, Reserve Component, Safety, Secretary Joint Staff, Staff Judge Advocate, Security Management, and Washington Office (J1/Personnel). SCSO - Center for <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Operations</strong> - Executes USSOCOM's global and enduring responsibilities as the DoD lead to plan, prepare, direct, and execute the command's mission. (J2/Intelligence, J3/<strong>Operations</strong>, J5/Plans). SONC - Center for Networks and Communications. Provides information and technology services in support of global <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Operations</strong> Forces operations – anywhere, anytime. (J6/Communication). SORR – Center for <strong>Resource</strong>s and Requirements. Conducts analysis and strategic assessments, develops an out-year resource forecast, and executes approved programs. (J8/<strong>Resource</strong>s) SOAL –Center for Acquisition and Logistics - Provides research, development, acquisition and logistics support. Plans, directs, reviews, and evaluates materiel development, procurement, and sustainment for USSOCOM. (J4/Logistics). SOKF –Center for Knowledge and Futures - Provides oversight and guidance for <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Operations</strong> Forces on Training, Doctrine, Education and Lessons Learned. Conducts exercises, war games and experiments to enhance capabilities. Develops Concepts and explores the Future of SOF. (J7/Exercise, Joint Training & Doctrine, J9/ Future of SOF, J10/Irregular Warfare). SOFM – Center for Financial Management – Provides budgeting and financial management for USSOCOM. (Comptroller) 6
