A Spring Culinary Showcase by Gr<strong>an</strong>d <strong>Chef</strong> T<strong>an</strong>aka<br />

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<br />

HONOLULU – March 7, 2013 – <strong>Halekul<strong>an</strong>i</strong>, celebrated for its personalized service, masterful cuisine <strong>an</strong>d innovation, invites guests <strong>to</strong><br />

enjoy a unique dining experience featuring renowned Gr<strong>an</strong>d <strong>Chef</strong> Kenichiro T<strong>an</strong>aka <strong>of</strong> the Imperial Hotel Tokyo. <strong>Chef</strong> T<strong>an</strong>aka, in<br />

cooperation with <strong>Halekul<strong>an</strong>i</strong> <strong>Executive</strong> <strong>Chef</strong> <strong>Vikram</strong> <strong>Garg</strong> <strong>an</strong>d his team, will create a special seven course menu plus c<strong>an</strong>apés.<br />

The theme <strong>of</strong> this special dinner will be Cherry Blossoms, a flower with special signific<strong>an</strong>ce in Jap<strong>an</strong>. The extremely beautiful but<br />

short-lived blossoms are richly symbolic <strong>of</strong> the fleeting nature <strong>of</strong> life. April is a traditional month for the flowers <strong>to</strong> bloom. This will<br />

be incorporated in the cuisine by using special ingredients imported from Jap<strong>an</strong>, including cherry blossom paste <strong>an</strong>d salt-cured<br />

cherry blossoms.<br />

Gr<strong>an</strong>d <strong>Chef</strong> T<strong>an</strong>aka has been Imperial Hotel Tokyo’s <strong>Executive</strong> Gr<strong>an</strong>d <strong>Chef</strong> since 1999. His highly prestigious career includes a<br />

national decoration by the French government with the prestigious Chevalier d<strong>an</strong>s l'Ordre du Merite Agricole, recognizing the<br />

promotion <strong>of</strong> French culture <strong>an</strong>d epicure<strong>an</strong> traditions by outst<strong>an</strong>ding individuals outside Fr<strong>an</strong>ce. Gr<strong>an</strong>d <strong>Chef</strong> T<strong>an</strong>aka is also credited<br />

with elevating Jap<strong>an</strong>ese perceptions <strong>of</strong> hotel weddings, when he oversaw the wedding menu <strong>of</strong> Her Imperial Highness Princess Nori,<br />
