Josefs-Gesellschaft was founded by Heinrich Sommer at Bigge in 1904.
In the course of almost 100 years, his formulated goal of “healing, care
and commercial training” has impressively demonstrated its effectiveness
and vitality.
Today, Josefs-Gesellschaft is Germany’s largest Catholic sponsoring
authority of institutions for rehabilitating the disabled. In 12 locations
with 50 service facilities, its offers various types of support and forms of
accommodation, kindergartens, schools, and both medical and vocational
rehabilitation for over 4,000 people.
The quality of the work performed is underlined by one figure in particular.
The vocational training facility of Josefs-Gesellschaft offers roughly 1,000
apprenticeships for 12 groups of occupations and 46 individual professions;
permanent employment was found for 149 of the 196 young people from
one year’s batch of apprentices who had successfully completed their
apprenticeships.
