ICT Project 3D VIVANT– Deliverable 2.3
Contract no.:
User Acceptance Validation Plan
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The purpose of this document is to provide, at an early stage of the project, a plan for user acceptance
validation in 3D VIVANT. Acceptance tests and studies will mainly be carried out in Task 7.3 –
“User Perception and Usability Testing”, which starts in project month 29 and continues until month
34.
The project developments will create new technology for the production and consumption of 3D
holoscopic video. Therefore, it will be important to test the acceptance of the new production
technology and the implications this has for existing production workflows and processes. Consumers
will be offered a new way to view, hear and interact with 3D content. All of these aspects need to be
tested. In order to highlight the advantages of the technology being developed and validate it, it is
important to consider the shortcomings of existing 3D approaches and solutions. The user tests, both
professional and end-user tests, will consider these in addition to other relevant acceptance factors.
Following numerous internal tests of objective measures conducted by the developing partners there
will be extensive validation of 3D VIVANT’s outcomes involving professional testers from outside
the project teams and, of course, future (potential) end-users. As the core objective of these tests is to
validate user acceptance, the majority of the tests will be based on qualitative assessment methods as
opposed to the project internal tests which will primarily involve objective testing methods.
As the developments in the project will be many and complex, there will be the need to carry out a
number of tests in various locations, each with a specific purpose and involving the main partners
responsible for the development in question.
