5 ORGANISATION OF TESTS
5.1 OVERVIEW
The planned approach for the user tests in 3D VIVANT on the end-user side is to initially have a
series of internal tests, focusing on particular aspects of the planned developments. These tests will in
general be conducted by the partner primarily responsible for the development but may also involve
other partners. Finally, the complete implemented use cases will be tested.
For the professional user tests, RAI in Task 5.3 – “3D Holoscopic Broadcasting Use Case” will create
a broadcast test-bed. This will form the basis for the input for the holoscopic camera sets tests. In
parallel, RBB will involve professional production teams in the production of RBB Kids’ and Youth
programmes to demonstrate 3D VIVANT’s features and functions. These production activities
(accompanied by questionnaires and focus groups) will form a major input to the validation process.
The validation of the production process will furthermore involve the use of the hyperlinking
environment and, closely connected, the search and retrieval mechanisms both of which will be tested
by professionals. The evaluation of these tests will involve questionnaires, thinking aloud and focus
groups.
Eventually, after feedback from project-internal testing and from professional user tests will have
been evaluated and the prototypes will have been optimised, end-users will be invited for testing their
acceptance of the project results as potential new products and services.
The following table provides an overview of the planned tests including timing, methodology,
location, testers and the content that will be used for the tests.
