Workshop. An entire week of theatre
fun for aspiring young actors and
actresses or kids that just want to
unleash their imaginations aged 9 –
14 years. The workshop will run from
10 – 15 January 2011 from 9am
– 4pm. Organised by the Hornsby Kuring-gai
PCYC Theatre Co, you will
learn about acting, directing, writing
and costumes. Play theatre games,
develop your own mini-plays and
rehearse the feature play, build props
and sets, then put it all together for a
gala Saturday night performance in

New ALDI opens at Mt K.

I visited the opening of the new ALDI shopping centre at Mt Kuring-gai on
Thursday 2nd December 2010 . On arrival the place was alive with cars
everywhere and shoppers coming and going.
Driving into the ALDI car park I spotted a traffic official and the hair on my back
stood up momentarily. Was this the local Council rangers that had descended
on the place to cash in on the event Not this time. It turned out to be a friendly
ALDI security/parking attendant to assist the new customers.
The ALDI complex also accommodated smaller businesses such as a Post Office,
Butcher, Café/Diner, Newsagent and more.
“It’s exciting being back and we look forward to serving the community again,”
said Nigel & Mandy Croft of Crofty’s, where I stopped to have a cuppa.
“It’s nice just to be back with much more space than before” said Ramesh Malik,
Post Office Manager.
During my time at the ALDI complex I had overwhelming positive responses from
those shoppers that visited on the opening day.
“It’s the best thing that’s happened since sliced bread,” said Betty Soady of Mt
Kuring-gai.
The Area Manager for ALDI was also pleased with the community response.
“We are glad to be finally open and look forward to working with the local
community,” said the Area Manager, Jarred Dubbelman.

then don’t forget to put it on your pre Christmas shopping list.

PCYC Celebration Youth Choir. But
they have to get over their first goal;
their inaugural concert performance.

School News
Each December Berowra Public School meets to acknowledge and
applaud the children’s’ many successes throughout the year. Children
learn so much at school not only in terms of academic growth but equally
in personal development and social skills. Presentation Day is a time
when the school highlights some of these many and varied achievements.
It is a day for celebration, reflection and a time for students to be
rewarded for their endeavours.
In his address to the school community Principal, John Barwick, said:
“Berowra Public School has had an outstanding 2010. We achieved exceptional
academic results, appeared on national television (It’s Academic), achieved
sporting success up to national level, and achieved continuing excellence in all
the performing arts. There isn’t a field of endeavour in which Berowra kids do not
excel, thanks in large part to the excellent support we receive from our school
community.”
We congratulate all our students, however, photographed are a five students
whose achievements merit special acknowledgement.

Dear Bush Tele,
I refer to my letter to the editor approximately a year
ago about the lack of swimming facilities close to
Berowra and the vociferous response from certain
people who claimed that Hornsby pool was safe,
healthy and should be used come summer or winter
weather.
I’d now ask them to read the Council media release
(TBTW 9/12/10) and in particular the part ‘that it
could expose patrons to an unacceptable safety
risk’ and that’s why it will close at Christmas. Am I
the only person who is shaking their head in despair
that we now have no choice but to drive for over 30
minutes to get to any kind of swimming facility
Yet again the Berowra pool should be put firmly back
on the agenda.

I’m writing to complain about the restaurant tables
sitting all round the Commonwealth Bank ATM at
The Village Shopping Centre. Its very intimidating
to have people right behind you when using it & no
Privacy.
I am also mad about all the cigarette butts just
thrown over the balcony, apart from the stink when
ever I walk past there it has to be a great fire threat.

9.00pm on Thursday 9th December Do they have
a stethoscope Four youths were disturbed during
the performance of a criminal act at Berowra Tennis
Courts. Their fingerprints have been collected by
Police which will be in their records now indefinitely.
Any information on this matter should be reported to
Hornsby Police.

Planning a break away from home over the holiday season
Here are a few safety tips to help –
• Have a friend or neighbour collect your mail & maybe park their car in your drive.
• Give neighbours a contact number for you or relative in case of emergency. Also inform them to call
‘000’ if a smoke detector is going off.
• Turn off your dishwasher water inlet tap. (We have had them burst & coming home to a flooded home
is not good!)

Leisa Siero
William and Leisa Siero were long time residents of Berowra 30 odd years ago
and friends of many. Both passed away peacefully during November after 60
years of marriage and most recently residing at Lake Albert Wagga Wagga.
Leisa was the original Post Mistress at Berowra Heights, where HomeBiz is
today and Bill was the Editor of the Dutch Australia weekly paper. They will be
sadly missed by their son, three daughters their families and many friends.

Christmas is upon us and whether you like it or
not the time for exchanging gifts is here. I hope
that this year all of your gifts will not be like the
ones listed above but if I know anything about
Christmas the truth is that you will probably get
at least one item that will fall into the categories
above.
But don’t worry, you are in good company, it
happened to Jesus as well.
It is well documented in the Christmas narrative
that Wise Men came from the East bearing gifts
for the new-born King. The fact is that they did
not arrive on the first Christmas Night but made
their entrance sometime later. The gifts they bore
Health...
were Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh.
The Gold was a Kingly gift, its worth was
obvious. It was a benefit to the family and spoke
of the importance of this precious child. The
frankincense was spectacular, it was a fragrance
of the Priests and it filled the house for years to
come. It demonstrated that this Child was like no
other and all should take note. The last gift was
Myrrh, this was the questionable one. Myrrh is a
narcotic used to dull pain but also a fragrant oil
which was used to prepare a body for burial –
hardly an appropriate gift for a baby shower!
The fact was that this child was born to be King,
born to be our doorway to the Father but He was
also born to die for each of us and our sins.
Christmas is a joyful time but should never be
viewed in isolation from its bigger meaning. The
joy of Christmas is that Jesus came and because
of that we have life and hope and peace!

Federal MP Philip Ruddock said he had
been ‘overwhelmed’ by the response
to his request for Christmas parcels to
be sent to Australian soldiers serving
overseas.
‘Christmas is a time when families come
together to enjoy each others’ company, so
it is a particularly poignant time for those
who have family serving in our Defence
Forces, particularly those stationed in the
world’s trouble spots.’
‘Berowra constituents from Beecroft to
Brooklyn answered the call and delivered
cheerful parcels to Australia Post for
despatch overseas.’
Mr Ruddock said many people had also
delivered items to his Electorate Office
where his staff ‘worked as hard as
Santa’s elves’ packing parcels which he
then took to Pennant Hills Post Office.
Soldiers in Afghanistan, the Middle East,
the Solomon Islands and East Timor
will receive gifts of sweets, toiletries,
magazines, biscuits and socks.
Mr Ruddock said many items he received
in his office were provided for the handlers
and dogs of the Explosive Detection team
in Afghanistan.
‘People gave Frisbees, dog treats, tennis
balls and other dog toys, to brighten
Christmas morning for the handlers and
their dogs.’
‘I would just like to thank all the generous
people who made such an effort to help
show our overseas troops that their work
and sacrifice is very much appreciated by
those at home.’
