MIDDLE SCHOOL DRESS CODE/UNIFORM POLICY (Grades 6-8)
The Scott Alexander Middle School is committed to standards of dress that are appropriate for
the school day in a superior independent school. The purpose of prescribed dress is to free the
faculty and students to focus on teaching and learning by removing distractions and
competition. The school reserves the right to interpret the appropriateness of student dress
and grooming as needed, even if such is not delineated specifically in the following regulations.
All of the following dress code policies (include free dress) are in effect while the student is
representing BCD, not merely during school hours.
We encourage individuality within these confines. Although we may offer suggestions for
where to purchase the clothes that fit within the defined parameters, if parents/students find
items or styles elsewhere, they must be defined by the criteria set forth below. (Pants need not
be purchased from Land’s End; however, five pocket jean-style pants are NOT allowed.
Uniform pants need to be in a fabric and style that conforms to the fit description.)
By adhering to the dress code/uniform policy, one shows respects for the school and its
community members. We are standing shoulder-to-shoulder, holding each other accountable
to the following:
Girls - Regular School Days:
No logos on any clothing.
BOTTOMS:
• Skorts/Skirts. Navy blue or various shades of khaki no shorter than three inches above the top of the
kneecap (measured while standing erect), no longer than three inches below the bottom of the kneecap.
For discretion something needs to be worn under the skirts, i.e. tights, shorts, etc.; not visible below the
skirt. No pencil skirts. Straight skirts should not cling to the body. Skorts and skirts must be properly
zipped and may not be rolled at the waistband.
It is recommended the hemmed length of skirts/skorts should start the year at knee length so that over the
course of the year students do not quickly outgrow their clothes. If needed to adhere to appropriate length the
hems must be let down or new clothes purchased.
