ZONING AMENDMENT MEETING/HEARING PROCESS &<br />
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS<br />

Regional <strong>Planning</strong> Commission<br />
The Regional <strong>Planning</strong> Commission will conduct a public meeting the 1 st<br />
Thursday of the month at 12:30 p.m. to make a recommendation to the Rural<br />
Zoning Commission. The Regional <strong>Planning</strong> Commission bases their<br />
recommendation on consistency with an adopted land use plan, existing land uses<br />
and/or new information concerning adjacent land uses or other developments.<br />

Rural Zoning Commission<br />
The Rural Zoning Commission will conduct a public hearing on the 3 rd Thursday<br />
of the month at 1:00 p.m. to make a recommendation to the Board of <strong>County</strong><br />
Commissioners. The Rural Zoning Commission takes into consideration the<br />
Regional <strong>Planning</strong> Commission’s recommendation and township trustees<br />
recommendation and reviews the proposed development to determine compliance<br />
with the zoning resolution.<br />

Board of <strong>County</strong> Commissioners<br />
The Board of <strong>County</strong> Commissioners will conduct a public hearing to review the<br />
proposed amendment. The Commissioners will close the public hearing and vote<br />
to approve, deny or modify the amendment at the next scheduled public hearing<br />
after the zoning compliance plan is completed and submitted. The applicant must<br />
submit a zoning compliance plan that meets all the conditions placed on the<br />
development by the Board of <strong>County</strong> Commissioners to staff 10 days after the<br />
Board of <strong>County</strong> Commissioner’s public hearing. The zoning compliance plan<br />
must be approved by staff before the Board of <strong>County</strong> Commissioners take a final<br />
vote on the proposed amendment. The public hearings are typically on<br />
Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. in the <strong>County</strong> Administration Building (6 th floor). The<br />
Board of <strong>County</strong> Commissioners must vote unanimously to overturn or modify<br />
the Rural Zoning Commissions recommendation.<br />
The zoning compliance plan shall have the following information included:<br />
• Development plan with the exact layout that was considered by the Board of<br />
<strong>County</strong> Commissioners.<br />
• All conditions and any variances based on the Board of <strong>County</strong><br />
Commissioner’s decision.<br />
• Deed of Acceptance signed by owner(s) and notarized.<br />
• Surveyors stamp<br />
• Five (5) copies of the proposed plan<br />
• One copy of the proposed development plan reduced to 11” x 17” (maximum)<br />
