photo magic in this hands-on class that covers all the
techniques you need — from basic developing and
printing of black-and-white film to making and reading
contact sheets, dodging and burning, and more.
Discover how to fine-tune your results by using test
prints and different exposures. The emphasis is on
composition and print quality to support and expand
your personal vision. Diane DiRoberto is an advertising
and marketing professional who freelanced in New
York for such clients as American Express and Calvin
Klein. She now owns and operates The Darkroom.

This is a three- to four-hour hike through some of the
most stunning petroglyphs in New Mexico. Mesa
Prieta is a major geological basalt formation overlooking
the Rio Grande just north of San Juan Pueblo in
northern New Mexico. Along the mesa’s eastern slope
is the Mesa Prieta Petroglyph site, on private land and
containing more than 6,000 petroglyphs dating from
Archaic (5500 B.C.) to modern times. The site is
famous for its many shield figures, abundant fluteplaying
animals and historic images from Spanish settlers.
Students will be asked to make a donation
toward the upkeep of the petroglyph area ($10).

Jane Shoenfeld
Join master pastelist Jane Shoenfeld on an excursion
to Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu. Friday evening, the class
will meet in the college studios, where the instructor
will teach you how to create brilliant color with pastel
underpainting techniques. Working from photographs
of the Ghost Ranch area, you will learn how to simplify
the landscape. On Saturday, the class will meet
in Abiquiu, where the magic and power that inspired
O’Keeffe will speak through your art as you use these
techniques to create expressive pastel paintings of
these remarkable canyons and mesas. Jane Shoenfeld
has been teaching pastel landscape painting at Ghost
Ranch for 11 years. Her work is exhibited in New
Mexico at the Nightingale Wilder Gallery in Taos
and has been published in American Artist Magazine.
She is also a licensed art therapist with a specialization
in the creative process.
