This three- to four-hour hike to the ancient pueblo of<br />

Hupobi, near the Rio Ojo Caliente, leaves from the<br />

porch of the historic Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs<br />

Resort. Participants will visit Hupobi-owinge, an<br />

ancient village that flourished between 1400 and<br />

1550 A.D., and explore the ancient agricultural fields<br />

that surround the Pueblo. Participants will learn about<br />

the technological skills used by Pueblo farmers during<br />

the Pueblo IV period and study different archaeological<br />

features, including petroglyphs, kivas, plazas and<br />

mounded room blocks. The tour also includes hiking<br />

to a mining area that produced a clay pigment source<br />

used by ancient people.<br />

This is a three- to four-hour hike through some of the<br />

most stunning petroglyphs in New Mexico. Mesa<br />

Prieta is a major geological basalt formation overlooking<br />

the Rio Grande just north of San Juan Pueblo in<br />

northern New Mexico. Along the mesa’s eastern slope<br />

is the Mesa Prieta Petroglyph site, on private land and<br />

containing more than 6,000 petroglyphs dating from<br />

Archaic (5500 B.C.) to modern times. The site is<br />

famous for its many shield figures, abundant fluteplaying<br />

animals and historic images from Spanish settlers.<br />

Students will be asked to make a donation<br />

toward the upkeep of the petroglyph area ($10).<br />

jewel at the southeastern base of the Jemez<br />

Mountains. The six-hour tour will include a threemile<br />

hike along the main trail at Tent Rocks, providing<br />

spectacular views of slot canyons, geologic spectacles<br />

and broad overviews of the surrounding area.<br />

For this day trip, students travel northwest to<br />

Abiquiu country, exploring the geologic and scenic<br />

highlights that so inspired O’Keeffe. On our journey<br />

we will cross a major geologic boundary in New<br />

Mexico’s crust, taking us back in time to when the<br />

earliest dinosaurs were roaming the area. Students<br />

will hike one to two miles if the weather permits.<br />

This six-hour day trip will explore the geologic past<br />

of the <strong>Santa</strong> <strong>Fe</strong> area, exploring key outcrops that tell<br />

wonderful stories of geologic processes that shaped<br />

the City Different and surroundings. The highlights<br />

include visits to pumice layers from the Valles<br />

Caldera eruption, major faults involved in the uplift<br />

of the Sangre de Cristo mountains and pre-dinosaur<br />

limestone beds from an ancient sea. Plan for a oneto<br />

two-mile hike near the <strong>Santa</strong> <strong>Fe</strong> River’s exit from<br />

the Sangre de Cristos, weather permitting.<br />

and our talented culinary arts staff will share all kinds<br />

of tips for success in the kitchen. That good feeling<br />

that comes with the aromas of baking will fill the<br />

hearts (and tummies) of your family. Adapt oldfavorite<br />

recipes and get new ideas as you learn how to<br />

adjust formulas and ratios to produce high-rising<br />

cakes, pastries and cookies. Tasty treats from the<br />

kitchen also make wonderful, from-the-heart gifts.<br />

Best of all, samples to taste and samples to take home<br />

will be shared among the participants.<br />
