The Blazin’ Bikes motorcycle<br />
rally will blaze trails<br />
during the fourth annual<br />
Blazin’ Bikes Rally held in<br />
the Lake Area Friday and<br />
Saturday, May 11-12, in conjunction<br />
with <strong>Contraband</strong><br />
<strong>Days</strong>.<br />
The Blazin Bikes<br />
Motorcycle Rally is a nonprofit<br />
event brought to the<br />
area by the Greater Lake<br />
Charles Rotary Club.<br />
The three self-guided<br />
tours wind through the<br />
Creole Nature Trail All-<br />
American Road for a relaxing<br />
ride through the<br />
marsh’s summer scenery,<br />
the North Piney Woods with<br />
a visit to the Louisiana<br />
Railroad <strong>Days</strong> Museum in<br />
DeQuincy, and the in-town<br />
sponsor biker bingo.<br />
Bikers will experience<br />
demonstrations all weekend<br />
from Wells Cornette<br />
and friends of the Top Gun<br />
Motorcycle School. New to<br />
Blazin’ Bikes this year is the<br />
Illconduct team. a daring<br />
stunt crew considered to be<br />
one of America’s top cycle<br />

Florida will be blazin’ the<br />
trails this year. However,<br />
the event is gated so that<br />
only registered bikes can<br />
participate.<br />
Registration fees for the<br />
driver and passenger are<br />
$25 each. Saturday only registration<br />
fee is $20 each.<br />
Registration for the bike<br />
show is $10.<br />
Proceeds from this nonprofit<br />
rally will benefit<br />
three Lake Area charities,<br />
including the Greater Lake<br />
Charles Rotary Club,<br />
Friends of Therapeutic<br />
Riding and the Southwest<br />
Louisiana Autism Chapter.<br />

Lighting up the sky<br />
The <strong>Contraband</strong> <strong>Days</strong> Fireworks Spectacular, celebrating<br />
the festival’s 50th year, is set for 10 p.m. Saturday,<br />
May 12. The event follows the “Louisiana Express”<br />
concert on the Malibu Rum Amphitheater Stage.<br />
Fireworks and music will be simulcast on Cumulus<br />
Broadcasting radio station KYKZ 96.1 FM.<br />

Rules and regulations<br />
Important rules to obey during the <strong>Contraband</strong> <strong>Days</strong> festival include: no open fires, no barbecue pits, no cooking units<br />
except for entrants in the barbecue cookoff Saturday, May 12. No alcoholic beverages or glass allowed inside the<br />
gates in accordance with a city of Lake Charles ordinance. No beverage coolers or ice chests allowed. Anyone consuming<br />
alcoholic beverages on Civic Center grounds must have a valid state driver’s license or valid state ID with<br />
photo and must be at least 21 years of age. No pets or weapons of any kind allowed. No tents, canopys, awnings<br />
allowed. No bicycles, skates, skateboards, scooters or rollerblades allowed.<br />
Battle of the Red Berets spotlights artists<br />

this year of the artistic<br />
efforts of a dozen or more<br />
distinguished citizens who<br />
will gather at Bridgepointe<br />
Custom Framing, 222<br />
Highway 171 in Moss Bluff,<br />
on Saturday, May 5, to paint<br />
their masterpiece.<br />
Painting will begin at<br />
approximately 2 p.m., and<br />
the event will conclude with<br />
an auction of the artistic<br />
creations at 6 p.m.<br />
The event, initiated last<br />
year to raise money for<br />
Hurricane Rita recovery<br />
assistance, will again be<br />

ability. It’s a real ball and a<br />
great way to raise funds for<br />
such a worthy cause”.<br />
The Battle of the Red<br />
Berets this year will be one<br />
of the events associated<br />
with the celebration of<br />
<strong>Contraband</strong> <strong>Days</strong>. This<br />
year’s participating fledgling<br />
artists include Dr. Dale<br />
DeSonnier, Dennis Stine,<br />
state Sen. Jerry Theunissen,<br />
Tom Shearman, Lynn Jones,<br />
Buddy Bolton, Leslie<br />
Harless, Kevin Guidry,<br />
Hunter Lundy, Willie King,<br />
Rich Richard and Bill<br />
Fuller.<br />
Each artist will create a<br />
painting of his own choosing<br />
to be auctioned at the<br />
conclusion of the event. The<br />
public is encouraged to<br />
attend the affair and vote<br />
for their favorite painting or<br />
artist by contributing one<br />
dollar per vote.<br />

Weekend Comedy is<br />
scheduled for two performances<br />
on the Lake Charles<br />
Civic Center stage Thursday<br />
and Friday, May 10-11.<br />
Curtain time is 7:30 each<br />
evening.<br />
The play has a plot familiar<br />
to many: a marriage now<br />
well into its third decade,<br />
partners who have lost the<br />
spark of their love and the<br />
need to revisit times past in<br />
