milestone May 1-13
Festival is ‘Back with a Vengeance’
It is with great excitement
that I welcome you
and your family to
Contraband Days 2007,
Southwest Louisiana’s premier
festival, May 1-13. This
year we are celebrating our
50th year. After last year’s
wet rainy festival we are
bringing Contraband Days
“Back with a Vengeance.”
We begin our entertainment
Thursday, May 3, the
National Day of Prayer,
with our alcohol-free family
night.
Get ready for Friday, May
4, when the Buccaneers sail
into Lake Charles to take
over the city. Count on the
militia to do its best with
canon fire to try to defend
the city. If Jean Lafitte and
his pirates are successful,
the mayor will be captured
and put on trial and made to
walk the plank. After the
mayor is forced into the
lake, the city of Lake
Charles will be placed
under pirate rule for the
rest of the festival.
We will have two stages
with continuous entertainment.
Look for many new
events and attractions, a
white tiger show, the
Spammobile, military displays,
and the Blazing Bike
Rally, the annual antique
and custom car show, helicopter
rides, the barbecue
cookoff, street parade, boat
parade and a gigantic fireworks
display.
I would like to say thank
you, on behalf of
Contraband Days Inc., to
our gracious and generous
sponsors, and members of
the local media. It is your
support, participation and
promotion that has sustained
Contraband Days for
50 years and made the festival
what it is today.
This letter would not be
complete if I did not thank
Annette Richey, our director,
and Anita Ardoin, our
office assistant, for their
hard work and dedication.
Last, but not least, thanks
to the board of directors,
advisors, the buccaneers,
and the countless volunteers
for all their dedicated
time, effort and vision.
Because of you, Contraband
Days 50th annual celebration
will be a huge success
once again.
I want to invite you and
your guests, on behalf of the
Contraband Days Inc. Board
of Directors and Staff, to
come and experience
Contraband Days 2007. I

Rules spelled out for
docking at seawall
■ Boat parking on the
Civic Center seawall will be
at your own risk. The city of
Lake Charles and
Contraband Days is not
responsible for boat parking
or any damage incurred to
boats
■ Pirate landing boats
will have a designated area
on the seawall. All others
docking will be first-come
first-serve. There is no saving
of spots.
■ Boats are not allowed
to connect to Civic Center
seawall electrical poles.
■ No ice chests, beverage
coolers or pets are allowed
onto the grounds during
open hours of the festival.
■ No glass bottles or
alcohol are allowed onto
Civic Center grounds as per
city ordinance.
■ Boats will stern in or
beam in (sideways). If a boat
beams in, it must allow
other vessels to raft off.
Allow 10 feet per boat
length to let raft up to side
■ People climbing on or
off seawall or loading and
unloading of passengers do
so at their own risk.
■ Law enforcement will
patrol the seawall and The
Lady Claire dock (southside)
will be for law
enforcement boat parking
and medical emergencies.
No other boats can dock at
this location, and and will
be removed if necessary.
■ When the seawall is
cleared for a Contraband
Days water event, any unoccupied
boat will be towed
and anchored.
■ Music is for the pleasure
of your boat only. Loud
music laws will be enforced.
■ Dancing on seawall or
steps is discouraged
because of risk of injury
(dancing is allowed on
grassy areas).
■ No swimming is
allowed off boats at seawall
or around anchored boats.
■ A no-wake zone will be
enforced inside boat
anchored (parking) areas as
per city ordinance and an
idle lane will be marked off
for boat travel through
anchored boats along seawall.
■ No anchoring or sailboats
running under sail
will be allowed in the idle
lane and boats can only
travel at clutch idle speed.
■ All DWI, drug and
marine laws will be
enforced.
■ VHF Channel 68 will be
used for Contraband Days
events.
■ All watercraft (boats,
jet skis, etc.) must stay at
least 500 feet away at all
times from the fireworks
barge and tugboat on
Saturday, May 13.

Contraband Days
announces the 2007 queens
and Master Jean Lafitte for
the 50th anniversary of the
festival. The pageants were
held March 31, in Central
School of Arts and
Humanity.
Morgan Murray, 18-
year-old daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Derrek (Angela)
Murray of Westlake will
reign over the 50th
anniversary of the festival
this year as Miss
Contraband 2007. Miss
Contraband will represent
the festival at events
through out the state and
will compete at the
Louisiana Association of
Fairs and Festival 2008
Queen of Queens pageant in
Baton Rouge Feb. 21-24.
Kristine Alcantara, 20
year-old daughter of Dr.
and Mrs. Alberto Alcantara,
of Lake Charles, was first
runner-up. Dixie DeSonier,
18 year-old daughter of Lori
McCardle and Dean
DeSonier, of Bell City, was
awarded photogenic winner
and Miss Congeniality.
Teen Miss Contraband
was Amanda Navarra, 16-
year-old daughter of
Tommy and Pam Navarra of
Lake Charles. Amanda was
also awarded photogenic
winner. Adrienne Romero,
16 year-old daughter of
Michael and Angela
Romero of Sulphur, was
first runner-up.
Earlier in the day the following
young ladies and
gentlemen were crowned
and awarded the following
titles:

runner-up, McKenzie
Wright, 14-year-old daughter

Peloquin named 2007 Jean Lafitte
Bob Peloquin was
named 2007 Jean Lafitte
by the Buccaneers on
Saturday, March 31.
Peloquin, with Miss
Contraband Morgan
Murray and the
Buccaneers will rule over
the city during the 50th
anniversary of
Contraband Days. He
received his official sword
during the sword changing
ceremony at the pageant
from Keith Jagneaux,
the 2006 Jean Lafitte.
Peloquin joined the
Buccaneers in 1981. He
has been married for 44
year to Ruth Davis
Peloquin. They have two
children, Brian Peloquin
and his wife, Jill, and
Tracy Peloquin Clark and
her husband, Chris. Both
Brain and Tracy are members
of the Buccaneers.
Peloquin has lived in
the Lake Charles and
Sulphur areas all of his
life. He worked for MI
Drilling for 40 years until
retiring in 1999. He enjoys
sports, especially
McNeese football and
playing tennis. He likes to
travel and dabbles in gardening.
But most of all, he
loves being a Buccaneer.
